I am a bit horrified by my ever increasing collection of empty or near-empty filament spools.
If 3D printing becomes as popular as it is meant to, then they will be rivalling coffee cups.
It would be great if they could be reused like printer cartridges, ideally if there was a standard design so they could return to any manufacturer.
Or even better, how about cardboard spools? We used to get B

May I second this;
In particular the way to get an account isn't to send a PM - think about it you can't send a PM unless you are already registered DOH...
You actually get a 'create profile' link if you try to send a PM by looking at someone's profile...
Not a way to grow a forum.

BTW it does seem to have been the worn nozzle.
Strange how nozzle wear is never mentioned in fault finding guides. My kit came with advice to change the nozzle every two reels and I should have paid attention!

Useful tip, thanks.
Worth keeping handy for when I want to print a really finely detailed part.

I'd say it is retraction related. Everytime after an unretract the chamber pressure isn't there.
What are your settings?
Direct drive or bowden?
It's direct drive Mk 8.
I may have found the problem.
It looks like the old nozzle was worn out (much faster than the previous one), It looks like its >0.6mm but it's marked 0.4 on the side!
I've replaced it with a new one , but I'll

Thanks. I think that unlikely, the head is printing four passes or more on about 22 cm of perimeter before moving to that area.
I THINK my problem is localised under-extrusion, its as if the head is over-supplying the previous long section, and then when it retracts for the move to the small area, it isn't properly priming the nozzle?

I have a really odd problem, one I only see with Cura, but not with Print Studio.
I have a Prusa i3 running marlin, and most of my prints are excellent, if I say so myself.
If I have a print that has large sections and smaller sections, I get patches with apparent under-extrusion. In the current example I have a large semi-circular tube printing fine, but two 5x7mm areas are printing the walls

Just a comment - I have an ATX supply and the on-box switch is a PITA as otherwise I could hide the psu on the shelf inside the unit I made to stand the printer on.
Currently the green wire is just linked to ground, I will break it and add a remote switch on the frame of the Prusa.

I had a couple of month's playing with a Dremel 3D40 which had excellent print quality and was very easy to use, but I found the Autodesk Print Studio software unstable. I got through a few kilos of filament and was blown away with the possibilities of 3D printing.
I've just built a Prusa kit but joined the forum because I had a horrible problem with the Z-axis doing random things, but I swapped
