Fusion360 is a great option. The maker/startup license makes it free to use for most purposes. It's powerful. It exports solid STLs. 3D Design tools
If you looked at the gcode from Cura 3.6 you'd probably see tons of tiny segments being produced for the thin wall sections. Thing wall printing in Cura is pretty broken. There's a 3rd party build with some tweaks out there. Might wanna take a look on the Cura forums for it from user Smart Avionics.

If you're really concerned about belts, do some research on the gates belts and how they are used in industrial applications. You'll quickly see that the 6mm belts are more than adequate for even the most demanding 3D printing. They are the most appropriate choice. Wider isn't necessarily better. It's the application requirements that dictates the appropriate belt spec. Go with 6mm.

Cura can do modifier meshes similar to how Slic3r does it. They call it infill meshes. I created a set of primitive shapes using Tinker Cad and just use those STLs as modifier meshes in either Cura or Slic3r. I don't think that's quite accurate. Setting RepRap to emulate Marlin refers to how it formats it's responses to console commands for compatibility with USB control software which expect responses to match what Marlin would respond with. It has nothing to do with the slicer as far as I'm aware.

The online netfabb seems to get hammered sometimes or something. Usually uploading the model again will let it go through.
Slic3r PE is able to repair many common problems and you can export the repaired STL.
MeshMixer and MeshLab both have Mac versions.

My solution is to use a spool hub with a bearing and then a PTFE tube guide secured to the frame going to the extruder. This combination allows the filament to unspool smoothly from the pulling force of the drive gear without getting yanked by the movement of the print head, or pushed back by retraction. All I can find locally are 240c thermal cut outs. I got some 150c fuses to try out for the heated bed.
The data sheet has a lot more useful information. Particularly about continuous operation.
