Thank you for your help.
I'm not too concerned about losing a 1/10 mm or so to my build size... at least during this learning/building phase. Also, my prototype X-axis is 8 feet long. My eventual printer will be on the order of 4 to 5 feet. I am more concerned about stripping gears and bending frames.
In case anyone else is looking for this feature during their prototyping... This is what

Firmware - Marlin
I am in the process of learning, designing and building my own 3D printer. I have a single axis test-bed with one stepper motor, and optical endstop. I have the Marlin code setup to ignore the rest. I can successfully "print" from the SD card (even though its like clapping with one hand). As with my purchased printer, the gcode does the Home command and the head successfully goes to the endst

I'm making things that are pretty large (as in multiple meters) and want to share them on sites like Thingiverse or equivalent. They don't have a forum or I'd ask there...
I'd chop them up to fit a "Common" volume. What would be a good "Common" volume?
I can't see cutting the model up for printers in the 100mm class (Monoprice Mini Delta). There would be hundreds of pieces. Although it wou

Safety & Best Practices
You know... you're right.
I'm such a dweeb sometimes. I've been treating this like some kind of black-box. I only update my Mk3 when Prusa tells me to. Its too expensive and too highly used for it to be down because I experimented too hard. Maybe if I had gotten the Mega 2560/Ramps boards it would have slapped me back to my senses.
This is just an Arduino under the covers! I've got Seri

Kind of an old topic, but I thought I might throw in my 2 cents worth...
Also, I can't carry a tune in a bucket, so if PVC has the acoustic properties you need, this won't work...
but I noticed at Lowe's / HomeDepot have ABS pipe. Wipe it down with a little Acetone and go-to-town!
Good luck!

Reprappers
You may be biased... but you may also be right!
I wasn't expecting my first choice to necessarily be the end solution. What I got seemed to be a better board than getting the Mega 2560 and Ramps 1.4 boards and cheap enough that its disposable... $32 for board, display w/ SD reader and five A4988 drivers delivered.
I will definitely check the Duet out, but $275 for both boards is not disposab

Hello RepRap forum. This is my first post and I want to dive in making my own printer. I’ve been printing for about 8 months now on a Prusa i3 Mk3 kit that I assembled and am hooked with the 3D printing. I hope this is the correct sub-forum for these questions.
Background Info – Mainly, I’m wanting to make a large printer and I have some questions. I’ve purchased a MKS Gen-L Controller kit
