What's up everyone. Many people who are new to 3d printing want to know about layer height and whether this or that printer can do 0.05mm etc, so I thought I would share this video on layer height.by fatesalign - General
Yeah, it really is great, and I completely agree on non heated beds not being worth it.by fatesalign - General
Whatsup everyone. Wanted to show all of you the review of the PEI Build plate:by fatesalign - General
QuoteIMBoring25 I'm not familiar with simplify3d, but most host software has provision to associate custom buttons with a sequence of gcode. There are boards with provision for endstops for the extruder drive axes but I'm not sure how much custom work you'd be committing to to make them work in that way and you'd have to design the mount for the endstop on your extruder drive. I could actually uby fatesalign - Reprappers
QuoteIMBoring25 This one is easy. You just need to figure out how far the drive needs to turn to get filament from the extruder drive and write start gcode that extrudes that much filament, waits for heat-up, then extrudes a little more and either waits for you to pull the extrudate off and launch the continuation of the print or goes to a purge canister that you'd have to design. Then you'd neby fatesalign - Reprappers
QuoteJamesK Quotefatesalign I think there might be some confusion here. What I mean is a system that recognizes the filament and automatically changes the settings in the slicer. That's it. I don't mean it changing g-code or anything. For example, when you put an ABS spool on there, the chip let's the system know it has ABS. It isn't really something that can't happen because I know it works withby fatesalign - General
QuoteIMBoring25 You don't have the whole picture of the workflow, which is understandable if all your exposure has been to the pre-packaged all-in-one solutions. Gcode is the sequence of instructions for the printer to execute to do a print (or anything else, for that matter). Move the nozzle to this point, then move it to this other point while extruding this much filament, then retract this fby fatesalign - General

QuoteJamesK What would you do with the information? One of the things that bugs me about 3d printing is that the filament characteristics get spread across all the configuration parameters of the slicer - retraction settings are part of the printer config for the extruder, speeds, bridging settings, widths are all part of "print settings" and then temperature and cooling is under filament. I was wondering if there's a diy way to add chips to the filament so the printer knows what material it is (obviously have to spool it yourself) like the robox?by fatesalign - General
Is there a reprap solution similar to the cel robox that allows you to add a sensor that pulls the filament in without needing to heat up, and the next time you print, it goes ahead and pushes it down the extruder then maybe whites it off before printing? I just love the simple way the Robox handles this. You don't have to shove it down and extrude some here and there. You just stick it in the hoby fatesalign - Reprappers
Whatsup everyone. I was wondering if the duet has the same plugs from ramps (ie endstops etc).by fatesalign - Duet
Quotedc42 Quotefatesalign Yeah. That's the one I know about. I just really like the newer, really nice looking interfaces. It does seem like many of the Chinese clones have the same interface, but it's really nice. Can you give an example of what you would like the interface to look like? Possibly something like this: orby fatesalign - Duet
Thanks for the comment. Is there a sturdy build that uses parts already fabricated so I at least don't have to do that? Like they have ever a parts list without 3d printed parts?by fatesalign - CoreXY Machines
I guess a better question is whether it's even possible to build a scratch core xy without a printer. Like can you get the plastic parts online like you can an i3? I ultimately want it quite tough (probably the v-slot rails) and I would use either the duet or smoothieboard.by fatesalign - CoreXY Machines
Hello everyone. Where's a good US place to get core xy parts? Also, does anyone sell an extruder mount? I don't currently have a printer (I've owned one in the past). I might get a kit, but I ultimately want to use a certain board and extruder.by fatesalign - CoreXY Machines

Hello everyone. I'm thinking about building a core XY and possibly adding cnc or laser cutting in the future and was wondering if the duet could handle that.by fatesalign - Duet
Hello everyone. I've been really wanting a decent sized build volume printer with a square, possibly metal frame like the rigibot or something similar for a while now. I just can't really afford the 1k price tag. I was wondering if there's ano open source build somewhere that would run me a little cheaper if I source my own parts. Any ideas?by fatesalign - Reprappers
Hello everyone. I'm looking at getting a duet controller for my i3, but I'm a little confused on one thing: How exactly does the interface for LCD's get decided? Is that up to the firmware and if so, is there an open source board that supports a really cool looking color touch screen?by fatesalign - Duet
Hello everyone. I just purchased a Maker Select, and I want to ultimately add the ability to read when the filament is out and add auto bed leveling. I know the board it comes with isn't capable of this, so I was curious what the easiest board is to change it to. I found instructions for a Ramps switch, but it required a ton of separate parts, so I don't really want that. I just want a single boaby fatesalign - General
Unfortunately, I don't have access to another printer, and to be honest, I'm not ready for that at this point. Thank you though.by fatesalign - General
After literally a week of research, I believe I've found the kit for me. I've owned a crappy i3, printrbot and Robo 3d R1+. I've unfortunately had to sell them all over the years (I hated the i3 and the printrbot was too small, but the robo sucked to sell). Basically, I'm trying to find a really decent, rarely railing 3d printer for a maximum of $800. I feel I could do better than the Robo if Iby fatesalign - General
I was thinking about getting an aluminum bed. If I did that, would it be very accurate or is there a more accurate method?by fatesalign - General
I'm thinking about getting a MakerFarm Pegasus, but I hear the induction auto bed leveling probes aren't good. I was wondering what is and if there's a method for the Pegasus yet. I found this, but it's for the MakerFarm i3:by fatesalign - General
Okay, so I'm really thinking about getting this: and just upgrading to duel extruders or getting the one that comes with it. I know there's a knockoff for 400 on eBay, but I here the Monoprice one is the exact same as Flashforge but just a rebranding, so it seems like a great deal. My question is whether I should just keep the single extruder and get simplify 3d or get a second extruder, and Iby fatesalign - General
Hello, I'm really contemplating making my next printer a Duel extruder. I absolutely DESPISE dealing with support material. I understand that there's a better software for $150 that's supposedly a lot easier to pull off, but I would really like to hear from duel extruder owners. Do you love it? Would you ever go back? If so, why? To me, the idea of using a second extruder to make the support matby fatesalign - General

Thank you very much. I might use that DLP with this setup (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:682415) that I was looking at. I wonder how big of a build area it can do.by fatesalign - General
