Thanks. Just don't want the magic smoke:-)by disneytoy - RAMPS Electronics
Thanks. Will try that. I did read that you don't need the Sd detect hack anymore. Not sure if that applies to my new RAMPS 1.4?by disneytoy - RAMPS Electronics
Thank you. The pot is indeed metal. I've just studied theory so far. This is my first hands on, and so many warnings about blowing these chips. i thought from reading to NEVER use a metal screwdriver/ I need a ceramic one which I don't have. wishe me luck:-)by disneytoy - RAMPS Electronics
That image helped a lot! Thank you. Update: got most of the pins wired. Question, there are two ground pins labeled on the SD reader? But on the RAMPS Aux 3 there is 1 GRND pin available. Do both need to me used? Just one? I'm not a electronics expert. Is there a different ground circuit for 3.3v and 5v? And for future reference, If anyone is doing this, I found a script to test if the SD cardby disneytoy - RAMPS Electronics
Hello! Just got in an SD Card reader from LC Tech. I want to wire it up to my RAMPS 1.4. And test it. Googling has giving me many different approaches. I haven't found a straight forward wire pin X to pin Y. So can anyone tell me to which pins on the Ramps 1.4 do I connect? Then is there s script I can load to test the SD reader? Like write a text file, then I can see if I can read it onby disneytoy - RAMPS Electronics
Quick questions: 1) Do I need to load firmware to the Arduino to be able to adjust the driver's voltage? 2) So, no 12 v power, just the USB 5v from the Arduino? 3) can this be done without the motor attached? 4) I looked at the photos but they are blurry. The multimeter gets ground from the rail. and the red probe goes where? In the photos it is not the Pot? Thanks Maxiby disneytoy - RAMPS Electronics
I'm building a Prusa with Ramps 1.4, a4988. It did not come with heatsinks. i have aluminum rods i can cut. Like little top hats. Would that work as well as the little finned heatsinks? I will also add a fan. Thanks Maxiby disneytoy - General Mendel Topics
Hi! I'm setting up a new system. My first. I have Wantai 42BYGHW811 steppers 2.5A. and a new Ramps 1.4 and a4988s. I was told: "These steppers are very good and can handle quite a lot of current. For setting up I always measure the reference voltage on the A4988 module and set them to be 0.45V, this will give you a good starting point for all the axis, it's possible you need to turn it up a litby disneytoy - RAMPS Electronics
I just bought Octava 1.75mm ABS black. After ordering on Amazon I read some bad reviews particularly the black. Probems with clogs, voids in the filiment. I can't cancel now. Anyone use Octava Blavk ABS???by disneytoy - Printing
Hi Guys! I'm getting close to my first print. Waiting on some electronics. I ordered black 1.75 OCTAVA ABS. Only after I ordered I read Amazon reviwers who hate it. That it breaks and ruins prints. It has voids in it. etc. Too late for me now. What are peoples thought on Octava ABS or what is a good ABS/PLA choice? Thanks Maxby disneytoy - General Mendel Topics
I'm not experienced with these matters "yet." But i have a new from China Arduino Mega, Ramps 1.4 and a set of a4988s. So I don't blow anything out can someone give me some rudamentary steps to testing things out? For instance, what to do to make sure the Mega is working properly before I even attach anything or upload firmware (MARLIN)? Then if that is working and I install the firmware, Is thby disneytoy - Controllers
I understand what G-code does, a series of instructions to control the printer. Then i read that you can add your own commands, to start or at the end. Is there any place I can learn what the different commands do? How I'd use them in a 3d printer application. preferably a video? TRhanks Maxiby disneytoy - General Mendel Topics
Hi guy! I have on order a bunch of rotary encoders (20 steps) to use on a LCD controller for Ramps. Then I thought, could I use the center mouse wheel, it can scroll up and down and accepts a click. I'm sure we all have mice we no longer use. In the example I show here, there are alst 2 additional click buttons that could be used. So any ideas how I would wire this to the RAMPS? my plan is wheby disneytoy - Controllers
I have Ramps 1.4. I want to add a 2004 backlit LCD. I found two types on ebay, a cheaper standard one. and one that says serial i2C version. Which will work for Ramps 1.4?I have seen videoes where the connector goes on the board. Just dont wanrt to buy the wrong one. Also. the "Smart Adapter" is there a place just to get that adapter? I have an SD card reader and a rotary encoder already. Do I eby disneytoy - Controllers
Thank you very much. That seems very doable. I will post pictures when I'm done for any future strapper.:-)by disneytoy - Delta Machines

I happen to have three lengths of 1" square aluminium extrusion. I realize openbeam, t-slot, v-groove etc is better, but I have here and it is free. I'm thinking of a Cerberus Pup/Kossel Mini printer. Any thought on how I can build carriages for regular square stock? Thanks Maxiby disneytoy - Delta Machines

I'm looking at these motors now. Tell me wht you think: Remember I will be using RAMPS 1.4 and A4988, with heat sink, and I will add a fan. 42BYGHW811 Holding Torque:4800g-cm(70 oz-in) Type:Hybrid Brand Name:Wantai Motor Phase:2 Current / Phase:2.5A Certification:CE,ISO,ROHS Step Angle(degrees):1.8degree 1, Technical Specifications Part No.: 42BYGHW81by disneytoy - Delta Machines
Thanks. So I need to look at less than 3 Ohm and 2 amps and under 6Volts. Isn't the holding torque the important thing? So many variables to take into account. What is an example of an affordable (cheap) motor with proper specs for a RAMPS 1.4 w a4988?by disneytoy - Delta Machines
What are the overall dimensions? Height, build area. Looks very niceby disneytoy - Delta Machines

Hello! I'm about to buy motors. I have a RAMPS 1.4 with A4988. My research says: Nema 17 1 amp-2 amps 60-80 oz hold torque. Not sure about shaft length. I'm on a budget and found these motors on ebay. My budget is about $10 a motor. Can anyone with experience let me know if these are powerful enough for my project? I'm also concerned voltage and amps will be acceptable with my 12volt power sby disneytoy - Delta Machines
Hi! First timer here. I'm getting parts for my extruder and I'm in the US. All the BOM I find for Bowden or Wade extruders have metric parts. I'm going to Lowes or Home Depot tomorrow. I want to get thePTFE tubing for a 1.75mm filiment. Also the Quick connect BSP connectors. So what size tubing should I buy? ID/OD and length Also what size connectors? (obviously the same as the tube O.D.:-)by disneytoy - General Mendel Topics
I could use some help. I don't have access at the moment to a 3D printer, and want to build a Kossel. I've ordered all my electronics, (looking for motors now). I'd be happy to pay it forward when I'm up and running. Perhaps someone could help me out with the bowden extruder parts. The 3 motor mounts, and thread pulleys. I'm looking at this in sections. If I have to, in the beginning I could uby disneytoy - Delta Machines
Well I'm going to take the plunge and build a BerryBot style Delta printer. I've watched all your videos. What are your prefered electronics to date? I'm costing out this build now. Also which motors are you using? I already ordered my magnets and will go with the aluminum extrusion you discuss in your video. Unfortunately, I don't have access to CNC or 3D printing for DIY parts. Thanks Maxiby disneytoy - General
Yes, please post a link to the sketch here so others in the future can benefit. My original plans changed a bit and I'm working on a Delta Bot, using the 13" wide printer cariages from the Epson Photo pro. Motors and belts in tact. Just need to tap into the stepper controller. Good luck everybody. Also, check out when they offer FREE ELECTRONICS RECYCLING in your area. You may be able to pick uby disneytoy - General New Machines Topics
