Hi Guys, Well an update. I'm not an electronics expert, but I can follow directions. I have the parts I need from 2 Epson Photo 13" printers and I just dismantled a Apple Laser writer pro 600. Boy is that heavy. I got stuck on the driver side. I have an Arduino. Understand how it communicates to a stepper. The Arduino doesn't speak the same as the stepper drivers from the printer. I'd cut the PC board larger first. You can loose all the prewired, prepowered goodness of a recycled controller.by disneytoy - General New Machines Topics
Please take a video of it in action. Would love to see it print!by disneytoy - General New Machines Topics
Hi! I'm pretty good at googling things, but other than the couple of Reprap "hobby" companies, I haven't been able to find an actual manufacturer that supplied the plastic in bulk. I accept for hobby purposes, $18-20 a pound is okay, but clearly a ubiquitous material like ABS costs a fraction of that. Not as familiar with where PLA is used in manufacturing. I've been googling: Plastic, wire, coby disneytoy - General
Thanks! I was going with the Prusa, then saw the Orca, and the new Orca v0.30 which looks very stable. But I have a first project based on an Epson Ink Jet printer, I just separated the carriage from the paper roller. Now I have 2 axis. And a a scanner to move the X or is it Y axis. Good luck with you build. I can't wait to design something in Z-brush and be able to print it out!!!! Thanksby disneytoy - General
Hi! I've done a lot of reading. And would like to get started. But i have a few basic questions that I'm not sure about. 1.75 vs 3mm - Obviously I know one is bigger, but am I correct that as long as you use the same tip (say .5mm) the end result would be the same. 3mm with a larger tip could put out thicker walls? Bed Size - What is the size of the bed? I keep reading how thick aluminum it isby disneytoy - General
What about the orca v0.30?by disneytoy - General New Machines Topics
Which Harbor Freight model do you recommend?by disneytoy - General
Hi! I was looking at the Mosaic printer where the bed raises and lowers on the z-axis as well as its lateral motion. While the print heead is stastionary in the Z-axis and just travels back and forth. While the Print head on say thae Prusa rises on the Z and moves laterally. Are there any thoughts as to which method has better accuracy? Which has more mass, the head assembly, or the bed? Atby disneytoy - General
Update: Interfacing the Epson's Allegro A2917 Stepper Controllers with the Arduino. I'm trying to figure out which pins on the Allegro crip to connect to the Arduino. It appears that the current state of RAMPS and Pololus have driver chips that have TRANSLATORS on them. I don't think the Allegro A2917 does? Am I correct that the only connection between the Arduino and the drivers is ENABLE, STby disneytoy - General New Machines Topics

Hi! I'm working a what I call the Phoenix Project. Utilizing reclaimed parts from older Epson printers. Motors, drivers, power, pulleys, opto switches etc. I don't have that much electronics experience and would appreciate advice on how I should interface the Arduino to my 4 - UDN2917 Full-Bridge PWM Motor Drivers ICs. Attached is the PDF of the pinouts. Petrus, has a similar project and wasby disneytoy - General
Hi! I'm not an expert at electronics, so maybe you can help me through this step. So I have an arduino. I have the same Epson board as you with the two UDN2917 Full-bridge PWM motor driver chips. How do I interface the two? I don't think from your pics you removed the drivers and built a new board? That would be over my head. So my computer controls the 3D printer via USB to the Arduino. Hey Petrus! I love how you used the Agfa scanner for the base. I have two Agfa 1200U scanners like yours. I'm stealing your idea:-) Did you find the pulleys and motor inside the scanner, accurate/powerful enough? I'm going in my office now to take it apart! Thanks Max UPDATE: Can't find any data (torque) on the stepper from the scanner: Agfa 1200S scanner Stepping Motor Teco Electric 1.8by disneytoy - General New Machines Topics
I'm not an expert at electronics. But with a bit of googling, and looking at the PCB board of the Printer, I have two FULL-BRIDGE PWM MOTOR DRIVERS (UDN2917E That sell for $9.99 each on ebay. Already wired to the motors! I like the idea of reusing the power supply circuitry. I can even imagine, the plastic case being ground down, and recycled into filament and being recycled into new parts. Iby disneytoy - General New Machines Topics
Luckily the two steppers in the Epson Photo Stylus are in spec. Both: Specifications Nominal Voltage 7 Current 0.7 Resistance (Ohms) 10 Torque (in-oz) 44.4 It is a bit low from around 100 in-oz. But seems to be in spec from the wiki Torque (kg*cm) 3.2 Wires 4 Steps / Revolution 200 weight 175 grams Step Size (degrees) 1.8 NEMA frame size 17 (Same Size motor) And thanks for your comments. Hi! I'd like any thoughts on this. I like the idea of re-purposing technology. Too much electronics are sent to the waste site, with perfectly usable parts. So my idea was to recycle in this case used Epson Photo Stylus printer, motors, gears, pulleys, power etc. An environmentally friendly approach. Obviously there are tons of inkjet, laser, fax and copiers out there with parts that can have aby disneytoy - General New Machines Topics
