I missed that...the video shows its possible, cool. I had the pancake in use in my preliminary designs, (but they where the sanyo's and they where pricey), so it would be nice to actually include it, so what the hell just bought one, has to be useful for something, but they dont do them in black grrr, or with the quick disconnect block, But then the Micron would be useless to me, and I just foundby MechaBits - General
Yes I like the pancakes and would like to use something like that, but cant get the planatary gearbox on its own, and I'm not sure the pancake has anymore torque than the 11 or 8by MechaBits - General

Does the belt have to be underneath, from what I can tell in that pic it could be ontop? even the rail I might have tried it rotated 90 degrees so it was like a monorail, then you could straddle both sides, but I dont know the limits of the Rail. It is what it is, and works well for you, I'm sure there's a good reason to settle on what you did. As I've discovered there's always more than one wby MechaBits - Reprappers
Yeah Srek I did think too small, had read that nema14 was the ideal over the 11 which the micron uses. But still way over the 100g target.by MechaBits - General
Can the smoothie work with Mach 3? I forgot Does anyone know if the Create it real board will ever be real? Obviously it is real but does it live upto its claims, its been used in a printer, but what the max speed filament can reliably be extruded.by MechaBits - General
I just found these nema 8 steppers, would be great if they could be made to work as the direct feeder, just not sure they can,by MechaBits - General
Has anyone implemented an alarm in the web interface, that lets you know when your house is burning down? When I read about the Smoothie at its crowdfund launch I thought this is the board for me, I wanted CNC, and all in one solution, but fry something on that and things would get expensive real quick. I'm not really a coder either but with kids all over the world using arduino, how hard can iby MechaBits - General
Scara or Robot arm, could pick up the head it needed, seems the easiest to think about. Or a horizontal Ferris wheel on top of Zby MechaBits - General
Housing looks nicely machined, are you still selling these?by MechaBits - For Sale
I've left the extruder as one of the last parts to integrate into the design, when maybe it should have been one of the first, with everything else designed around it. The good thing about the bulldog is you can use it as a bowden(but so can some of the cheaper solutions), because I'm not sure how I would mount it direct, the feet on the bottom probably would not fit my setup, its a lot to sheby MechaBits - Reprappers
Though the Bulldog has what looks like a square gearbox same size as other components, so all looks neat, I've not seen that as a separate item.by MechaBits - Reprappers
Cant the edge finder be used to probe the edge of the bed, next to the 3 point level screws, ie set Z above bed, probe moves to outside area of bed then moves in by say 30mm, if it doesnt trip its not low enough, so moves down by layer height...repeat at other points. As far as I can tell they do not rely on a electrical loop to work it's a self contained unit. I dont see that it needs to rotateby MechaBits - General
I'm looking at the same one, but as I posted in another thread, I might try smaller version like the Micron, but when faced with shelling out £200 you need to make sure there isn't another way...the one you listed plus an adapter means I could use nema11 with planetary gears, which would come to £65 ish for almost identical setup. but I'm waiting to try another low cost option which looks lighterby MechaBits - Reprappers
Turns out the Micron's not as big as I thought, looks like a smaller version of the Bulldog, it's not a nema17 but an 11 (86mm), still looks a little lop sided though, it would only fit on my X if spindle was in line with the Y this article says it's a 1:13 ratio, the closest motor equiv' I can find is £33 14:1 (13 + 212/289) thought this listing states 1:19 ratio on it's own here for £28 Aby MechaBits - General
can't we just use something like this, wire it into the ramps, there are so many nicely machined items be a shame not to be able to use them, but they are a little large if all that's really needed is an accurate micro switch.by MechaBits - General
What about same or similar device in the hotend mount, I think its already been done, but it's something i'm thinking about.by MechaBits - General
Yeah my technical description writing isn't the best either... I'm also wondering if this example could be used on 3D printers, perhaps with a small reference cylinder you can position on bed, and a clip on tool for the X rails.by MechaBits - General
What are the downsides of having a simple short for the switch(accuracy/repeatability, arcing), instead of a micro switch, eg a normally open signal circuit, which closes either when hotend touches level screw, or metal clip attached to bed, or a bearing touches end of rail, obviously not the bearing hitting the bumpers, but hitting a wire near the end...obviously this could bend and move and mesby MechaBits - General
Can anyone recommend a quick disconnect power connector that I can connect near the bed, so I can split when needed. I need a few suggestions so I can find one that fits with the design.by MechaBits - Ormerod
your trying to alter the lights in the 3D view in Repitier, I've not done it so dont know if you can save the positions, but if you can then search for 3 point lighting and you will find many examples and colour combo's, but basically it's 2 in front/side's, (key light & modelling light) one behind the model, then you might have room for another light someewhere...by MechaBits - Repetier
Hexagon infill is being done, but not sure if variable size ones are...another nice one would be circle packing(not sphere's), maybe offset each layer 50% of D, but things might end up a little stringy & sponge like inside, maybe easier to sheer? but "Hyperbolic Planar Tesselations", that's nice.by MechaBits - General
Yes I've been having trouble parting with £20 for a rubber band for my belt drive turntable, the direct drive doesnt get used much either), let alone the more expensive stuff you can buy for hi end audio...when all you really need to do is get up early one morning and go foraging for nature's answer to everything. To me that extruder looks too big for my machine, doesn't look balanced, maybe itby MechaBits - General
13g hotend sounds great, revive it, but sounds like it could be copied very quickly, add a great light tidy feeder, try to keep cost's below this one or the new makerbot one, trying not to get copied much harder to achieve, knowing that could be the possible outcome doesn't encourage anyone.by MechaBits - General
what about connecting nozzle to same power supply as heatbed, or would that just create more issues and chance of frying things. I dont know why I would like the hot stuff on one capable safe supply, and the other for just rampsby MechaBits - Ormerod
Wonder if this motors any use? they have others, doesn't look as slim, I've no idea on weight, or strength or electronics in general, though doesnt look like it saves any size compared to a nema17, pancake might be same weight, but I havent seen anyone using them either, if your roll of filament is on bearings surely that makes a big difference.by MechaBits - General
When I get the 6mm plate I probably will be getting a can of insette too, but the techy looking print on the Mk3 will be lost in the toasty sandwich. Or I could put it the right way up, Ali' up and print on that...treat the bed as a consumable, just to see how long it lasts.by MechaBits - Reprappers
Tinkercad looks quite a clean & simple UI, probably better than blender & maybe sketchup for ease of use.by MechaBits - Reprappers
Mine arrived today, it's sexy, what a pity it wont look the same covered in kapton tape, I love it just the way it is. 3mm seems ok while things are cool, I held back on buying one for a while because the listing had incorrect dimensions for holes & spacing...but it fits like a glove, though I will probably be mounting it different in final config, when I get some 6mm plate. I will probably wby MechaBits - Reprappers
It sure looks like one from a toy, but that stratasys one looks really well made, want one. The hotend he's using looks like one from the web sprayed black.by MechaBits - General
