No don't worry it sounds fine I just wondered where the discrepancy came from. Im getting pretty good results with my nema 17 flying extruder and have optimised the design for the printed parts so Ill try these before switching to this lighter motor at some point, thanks for the advice.by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Thats the one I was looking at but the supplier says its 350g, have you weighed it and found it was actually 200g?by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Every time I see this I want to upgrade my two printers to 32 bit boards but my 8 bit boards work and fit neatly into the spaces for them in the printers, so I'm torn. I'd definitely go 32 bit if I were starting again today.by DjDemonD - General
QuoteElmoC QuoteDjDemonD I wonder if Apple will bring innovation to 3d printing or just take an existing technology make it look cool and release it at the right moment to sell millions. You forgot the part where Apple will file more patents on existing and intuitive items to claim it as their own. Yes I will admit I'm not a member of the Apple religion and I do not welcome their interest inby DjDemonD - General
I found one supplier offering this motor which is 350g with gearbox so probably not worth the effort to change over (and thats without the metal support bracket I'd need to fit it). I also found this one (a smaller motor so less torque???) would it still be sufficient?by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
- 10 years agoIdeally the shorter the better but it will work if its long, you just have more problems with filament control as the filament can stretch/compress and flex in the tube. This means that you get more blobs/strings etc... Retraction tuning is harder with a longer tube. I'd recommend mounting the extruder halfway down the printer to shorten the tube. Or consider a flying extruder. There's a goodby DjDemonD - Delta Machines
I which case I wonder how the flex3drive handles retraction as it is highly geared.by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
I'll look into it sounds good.by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Sounds good I see there is a 100:1 nema 11 being offered also why not use that one? Would need much less motor current.by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
There's some news circulating about Apple filing patents for a 3d printer with a second nozzle to colour objects as they're printed. Do you think they're using some sort of absorbent filament which will soak up ink as it's extruded? Whilst this is a good idea to create colour prints I wonder if Apple will bring innovation to 3d printing or just take an existing technology make it look cool aby DjDemonD - General
I haven't got it yet but the inventor mutley3d is active on this forum and I'm sure he'll fill you in. It should be very accurate as it works via a worm gear, meaning you need around 2000 steps per mm at 1/16 microstepping. Just Google flex3drive.by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
As Olaf said it's a clever twist; the flying extruder only adds it's full mass and inertia to z moves, this is easily handled by the three motors in a delta. X and y moves have only a small amount of additional mass added to them equal to the tension in the elastic and bowden tube. The main advantage is still a low mass effector in x and y so fast printing is still possible but you have a shorby DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Just seen it now thanks quite cool but I might rework my extruder to have the loops I'm using attached to it as they're much easier to string the elastic/balloons with.by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
I'm with digital dentist (which is ironic as I'm a dentist too but probably more an analogue one) it's going to be too complex to work easily, and it's quality we all seek. Speed seems to be more of a marketing brag than anything else, it's easier to measure and demonstrate than quality or reliability.by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Rich Cattell's Marlin by default probes then confirms the probed position by performing a repeatability test ie a second probe, before moving on to the next point.by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
I've also built a flying extruder photos enclosed. Still testing it but the issue of throwing the motor around is not so much of a problem you throw a few motors around with a cartesian printer with often only one motor to do the lifting rather than three in a delta. The mass of the extruder is acting fully on z moves but only slightly on x and y, in so far as the extruder twists and turns as tby DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Mutley will cut you a custom sized piece I'm fairly sure of that. But no experience with POM myself.by DjDemonD - General
To answer the original question, I have a Kossel Mini, with fsrs from ultibots which have the additional module to smooth and amalgamate the signal to be connected to the z min endstop. I use Rich Cattell's marlin and the auto calibration works really well. I have eeprom enabled and just send m500 to save afterwards. I believe writing a new firmware clears the eeprom but I'm not 100% on that as Iby DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Yeah apologies, I just reread my message and I meant place the ptfe between the throat and the heater block, not between the throat and the heatbreak/heatsink. I totally agree that any heat in the throat above the heat block needs to be quickly dissipated to prevent the filament softening and sticking.by DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Quotebigfilsing The heat transition/conduction up the hot-end is stopped by the finned barrel with a fan blowing on it. Taping the heatbreak with teflon/PTFE is insulating it and preventing the fan from being effective IMO Of course we are only talking about a minimal amount of conducted heat that " manages" to get past the thin turned section but still. I was under the impression that was the whby DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Get rid of the glass and stick the printbite to aluminium. I don't see the point of glass unless you are actually printing on to it. It is not a good conductor. When you say the backlash is too strong do you mean the air flow of the fan, backlash means slack in mechanical parts such as loose belts or sloppy gears etc...by DjDemonD - General
- 10 years agoI got some from Lidl and they work just fine, 0.4mm drill bits measure up at 0.4mm etc... They've been reliable, solid and accurate and cost less than £10.by DjDemonD - General
I do not have a photo of my i3 x-carriage/print head but my solution is to have one very small (2cm) print fan with a duct which is firmware controlled which just comes on when printing ABS for small, quick layers to prevent melting/slumping, and one larger fan (4cm) connected in parallel but with a switch so that I turn it on for PLA but off for ABS.by DjDemonD - General
Any suggestion for the best type of tape available in the UK for attaching this surface to my aluminium bed? I am very happy with the printbite but the cheapo tape I used is not standing up to abs heat bed temperatures.by DjDemonD - General
This is my attempt at a flying extruder. I remade the carriages with loops on them and then made an extruder bracket to "fly" in the centre of them. Attached at the moment with just sewing elastic, but the bowden tube certainly provides some support also. I might try some silicone material once Ive got a handle on how much tension they need. Already printing a lot better my bowden tube is now 10cby DjDemonD - Reprappers
Whilst the chamber is certainly warmer with the bed on, the ambient air temperature in my workshop has been 3 deg C at times, so the bed alone is not enough to keep the chamber hot. As for hot end cooling my chamber heats easily to 40-45 deg C and there is still enough of a thermal gradient between the air in the chamber at this temperature and the heat break on my e3d, to keep the heat at the hoby DjDemonD - General
Okay I've an i3 rework, ramps 1.4 and marlin 1.02 moving to RC 1.1 soon. Currently have 1 extruder. I have just built a heated chamber which uses a mains voltage heater I am currently controlling using a dedicated control box. I'd much rather have the printer Control this heater. So this is what I think I need to do can anyone say if this sounds right? Change firmware to say I have 2 extrudeby DjDemonD - General
I think it looks good, is the concept to allow people to design a 3d object then others can buy it? What stops people posting free designs and trying to sell them etc.....by DjDemonD - General
