You need to change to a J-head hotend, see www.hotends.com for purchase. If you already have a J-head, then you might have a bad clone (seen two of those floating on the forums the past two weeks, one from ebay and one from reprap.me)by Asger - General

There is in fact TOO much information on the wiki, it basically comes down to more ways of doing it. It's a build option, and people can debate the right/wrong/best way of doing it for years to come. You need to decide on what kind of platform you want to build, get inspiration from othersby Asger - General

It will work without a thermal compond (like CPU heatsink) but it will work BETTER WITH heatsink, better meaning it will heat faster. I will go out on a limp and say that nobody has conclusivly tested if the termistor is better or worse without heatsink, so you make the choice. 5$ worth of heatsink or 2 flat light beers? 1. Don't try to scale up a printer as the first reprap you ever build, it will be you'r white whale with a bane mask. You will have tons of sleepless nights over it, for a ton of different reasons. Too many to list here 2. No, the extruded diameter determins your lowest layer height. see for calculating extruded diameter but let's take an easy example, 0.5mm nozzle (does not matter if you use 1by Asger - Reprappers

Are you both using marlin? if yes then it's your firmware, guarenfuckingteed. I had the exact same problem. When i get off work i will send you my configuration.h try and upload that instead of what you have now and see if you can't make the led's light up and the heated bed start heating If you answered no to the first question, disreguard anything and everything i wrote.by Asger - General
