Just ordered the last 4 rolls of white abs, still plenty of black left. Now I just need to get my cupcake's HBP to actually hold the stuff down!by chirdaki - Australia, Melbourne RUG
Hi guys, Well despite my inability to write anything at all, I have in fact been running around at uni trying to get a few things done. First, I have printed of a test piece and will have a play with it this afternoon. Thus far its just been given an epoxy coating, which should be strong enough. When i pulled it out of the printer I tried flexing it a little and it didn't budge, which is promisby chirdaki - General
Hmm, well UV is an option but yeah it does get pretty expensive. thankfully i'm only paying for the materials, its at uni so there's no mark-up. we do have a few other things there, including a laser cutter, so i could just revert to that i guess. at least it can reliably be made under ideal conditions. i'm going to be testing it in the next week or so. it'd be nice if i could get it to work as iby chirdaki - General
Hello all, i have few of things i'd like some help on from the community. Firstly, at uni we have 2 zcorp printers which i'd like to try printing off mendel parts with. At present they're set for just plaster and a water based fixing agent but there is a type of resin that i could try with, but i'm not sure about its structural integrity. Now, if i can get a full mendel up and running from the zby chirdaki - General

thanks to fox i've got an extruder nozzle. now i need: -nichrome wire and can only seem to find the unshielded variety -kapton tape, from here: -a trip to bunnings for the cartesian bot. they might not have ptfe strips though... could use nylon i guess, though it'd wear faster. -usb-ttl cable as i forgot to order it with the electronics. the biggest issue i've got at the moment is that i don'by chirdaki - Australia, Melbourne RUG
hi all, i've got my hands on a gen 3 kit from makerbot, but forgot the usb to ttl cable. oopsie. next step is to build a mcwire, but want to translate it to metric first; i'm young and never learnt imperial/yankee. then off to bunnings! question: has anyone in melbourne, or vic for that matter, actually got a working reprap? andy.by chirdaki - Australia, Melbourne RUG
woo, go the mighty melbourne, we get our own forum now!by chirdaki - Australia, Melbourne RUG
bailard, i think thats a good idea. i was more hoping someone had already done it so i wouldn't have to duplicate the work, but i think this is a better idea to document it. i haven't done a full conversion before, but can't be that hard. fred, once i've made a few mendel sets and got another machine up and running, i'll probably leave my dremel attached to it and use it as a cnc router. had anby chirdaki - General
i can't seem to find a bom or plans for a metric mcwire or something similar. i know that some people learn imperial at school, but all my tools are metric and i think in metric. i'm doing civil eng and SI is all we deal with. anyhoo, if someone has plans for a metric mcwire or something similar that can be built out of a hardware store, please let me know. thanks!by chirdaki - General
hey oscar, if you've still got a spare extruder kit i'm more than ahppy to take one off your hands. i'm in melbourne. i'm trying to build a mcwire, got the electronics from makerbot, and have a friend who's got a laser cnc, which is handy. want this up and running in the next few weeks. cheers!by chirdaki - For Sale
well i did say i don't know what i'm doing... ok, next thing: is there a simple circuit i can build that will do what the cable does to which i can attach a usb socket? and on another note, i think its an idea to put a usb socket on the motherboard, or at least have an option for it. i'm more into the mechanics of all this. second moment of inertia or flexure analysis i get, but i have little cby chirdaki - Controllers
ooo, found an old motorola cable that looks promising, it has six wires in it, well 5 and a shield, so will have a crack at this. not entirely sure what i'm doing but can't really lose...by chirdaki - Controllers
hey now this is useful! i recently got a full series 3 kit and steppers from makerbot but forgot the damn cable. shipping is about $30 to australia, so would have cost me $60aud for a single cable. good find. +1by chirdaki - Controllers
yeah the materials might be $20, but you have to run a laser cutter for some time to get them all, and its the time that costs $$$. for a uni project, i did a 3d plaster print of a tower we had designed that cost about $350, with the materials being less than half of that. mind, it was done at uni labs which are somewhat subsidized and not run for profit. i've got a picassa gallery of it and a pby chirdaki - General
personally, i quite like this idea. (not the tomato throwing but the karma-enhancing paying-it-forward spore-seeds-spreading-in-the-wind idea) i had a notion like this when i first found out about the site earlier in the year. we've had basically the same idea, give away two sets on the condition that they do what we did, namely give away two sets to someone who will....yay recursion! simplest wby chirdaki - Reprappers
