Thanks Brian, that makes sense now. I went ahead and tied the ground of my motherboard to the ground of the extruder board as described in this thread: I had 3 - 4 failed prints in a row but, as soon as I ran that single ground connection, I managed to get off two successful prints in a row (both just under 2 hours worth of printing). I'd say it's probably too early to tell if this is the finby wesjanik - Reprappers
Thanks Brian. I'll definitely check for power problems causing a reset. I read somewhere that the TechZone boards should be tied together to a common ground - have you done this as well? Doesn't the motherboard firmware continually monitor the temperature given by the extruder board? I'm not sure what you mean by "reset to 2000..." Whenever I check the temperature of the nozzle post-failure,by wesjanik - Reprappers
Has anyone else ever had this problem and solved it? I'm having it now myself. I've gotten through several multi-hour builds, but now I've had two failed builds in a row with this problem. This is the third time total this has happened. Nothing in the GCode is set to turn off the heat. I also have the Tech Zone boards. I just happened to be near the machine when I think it failed this lastby wesjanik - Reprappers
Yes, that made perfect sense - thank you very much. Did you adjust yours as suggested on the wiki (start from low position and adjust until the motor moves), or did you use some other method?by wesjanik - Controllers
Oh, I almost forgot - you (spacexula) were asking before where BotMill was sourcing their hardware. While they did ship the package directly, the hardware bags all have UltiMachine.com labels on them. Looking at their site, UltiMachine is selling the same hardware package for less than BotMill.by wesjanik - General
Actually, my plastic parts are for Isaac from Fleming CNC... I only ordered ABS for printing from BotMill.by wesjanik - General
Does anyone know a good way to adjust the trimpot on the techzone remix stepper controllers without connecting up a motor? The pot doesn't seem to have an end (i.e. I can turn it endlessly in either direction), and I'd like to determine the minimum current setting without potentially frying anything. I've read elsewhere in the forum that you can hook up a multimeter and check the voltage as youby wesjanik - Controllers
Update: I've finally received my complete order. Curiously, BotMill sent me the tracking number for the plastic but never anything for the hardware. They shipped on the same day - both from BotMill - with separate tracking numbers. It makes me wonder if they even know they shipped the hardware! So, while everything did eventually turn up as I expected, the lack of communication and conflictiby wesjanik - General
Of course I assume responsibility for sending money to a non-trusted source - I never said I didn't. My point is not that I should have been in some way protected from doing so, my point is that I disagree with your argument for excluding user feedback from a wiki. And, yes, I do know how to use Google... Despite what some netiquette sites say it's insulting to insinuate otherwise, not helpfulby wesjanik - General
So what you're saying is it's good to advertise the existence of potentially bad vendors, but bad to advertise user experiences with them? If users should use a search to find feedback, why shouldn't they use a search to find a vendor? If the community benefits from having one bit of information organized, wouldn't they benefit from having related information easily accessible? Personally, I wby wesjanik - General
I suppose I would have to agree with not removing them on the basis of open information availability. However, I would argue that your example is different for two major reasons. First you're an individual operating as part of the loaner program, not a business providing individual sales. And, second, you aren't given an individualized link in the Mendel Buyer's Guide. I think the community wby wesjanik - General
Well, it's been a week since I was told I would have my hardware kit tracking number. A few days after I was told I'd have the information, I emailed Gil to request an update. He replied the next day with an explanation that due to "a surge in orders" they have instructed the manufacturers they work with to ship directly. He went on to explain how they pride themselves on "being able to providby wesjanik - General
I've just had the same experience as ethans. Electronics showed up today with no motors. I still don't yet have tracking info for the ABS or hardware, but have been told it would be arriving today or Monday. Considering BotMill isn't actually fulfilling the electronics orders - only pushing paper to Tech Zone - I have to characterize BotMill's service as pathetic. How hard is it to write backby wesjanik - General
Definitely common for USPS to not have updates for a day or two, but not three. They do now recognize the package but state that it was picked up today, and not Saturday. According to BotMill, this package is for my electronics. I replied to their tracking number email on Wednesday asking when the rest of the order would ship (if it hadn't already) but have yet to receive a reply.by wesjanik - General
Update: Speak of the devil - I just got a tracking number emailed to me. USPS doesn't know anything about it (which is odd if it shipped on Saturday, even for USPS) but we'll see.by wesjanik - General
I ended up placing an order 12 days ago, but haven't received it yet. I sent two emails requesting status of the order (one last Thursday, one last Friday) and finally got a response on Monday indicating my order had shipped on Saturday. I was told I would receive a follow-up email including my tracking number once they knew what it was, but I still haven't seen that email. If the order did shby wesjanik - General
Hello everyone- I'm looking to source all the electronic and mechanical parts for building a new Mendel from BotMill.com. Does anyone who's actually ordered from them have any feedback? I sent a few questions off to them two days ago, and haven't gotten a response yet. It got me to wondering if they're just busy or if it's something deeper. Just want to be sure before I drop $600 :-) Thanksby wesjanik - General

Triffid_Hunter - thanks for the link. I have to say I'm a little confused here. It's been a while since I worked with electronics in school, so you'll have to forgive me if these are silly questions. Let me start by saying I'm guessing that the three +12V/GND power pairs are basically tied together to form a single +12V/GND pair since I don't see +36V anywhere on the circuit diagram. ryanhendrickson - are you from near Chicago? There's actually a forum for us (http://dev.forums.reprap.org/list.php?40), though I can't say I've posted anything there yet...by wesjanik - Wanted
I haven't ordered them yet so I don't know how respectable they are, but I was able to find a place selling smaller quantities of the 624 bearings in the US for almost as cheap as the UK supplier: Not as cheap as $99 for 100, but you won't have 52 extra bearings On the other hand, it would be cheapest for pairs of people building the machines to order the lots of 100 and split the costs (pluby wesjanik - Mechanics
Is there any danger in putting enough power through cat5 wire to power the extruder board? Does it depend on the quality of the connectors/wire used?by wesjanik - Controllers
I would definitely be interested in a kit like this. MakerBot Industries seems to have a set of parts of their own (I don't know if they work without modifications) which are priced a little higher, so this seems like a good deal. Like many others, I've also expressed interest in the rest of the plastic parts for the kit which may or may not include the parts for the extruder (depending on wherby wesjanik - For Sale
I'd also be interested in a set of Mendel parts. I'm just getting started (I have nothing at the moment) so a few weeks lead time is not really an issue. I live in the US (Illinois).by wesjanik - Wanted
