I'm about to upgrade my Rostock MAX v2 to handle 3 extruders/hotends. Part of the upgrade is to replace the RAMBo with an Azteeg X3 Pro. The original 12V PSU on the Rosotck is also weak, and I'm thinking up upgrading it to a 24V PSU as well. The Azteeg is advertised as allowing a 12V-24V input. Has anyone actually run 24V through an Azteeg X3 Pro? Are there any issues with doing this that Iby PeteD - Controllers
Are there any large volume 3D printer designs out there? And by large volume, I mean 1m3 or more. If there are, are any of them capable of getting down to 0.1mm in layer height?by PeteD - General
I'm building an RPi front end for my Mendel. I want to be sure I'm sufficiently powering the RPi, the Melzi board on my printer, and the peripherials (wireless network dongle and bluetooth dongle). I'm having trouble finding how much current the Melzi draws via the USB. The information was not on the Melzi wiki page or the Melzi GitHub, and I cannot find any kind of datasheet. Does anyone knoby PeteD - Controllers
QuoteBill Clark That's great your kids are paying attention to all that Mappler. It certainly will be part of their future. My son is 10 and I cant get him interested in whatever I am doing yet. he is deep into minecraft and learning to code so I'm letting him run with that cuz dad needs help in the code department. I was helping him with his homework tonight and was surprised they are teaching hby PeteD - General
The fact that you have three different vectors of force continually acting on the print head tends to cancel out all unintended movement on a delta printer. It's not zero, but it does reduce to a very, very small amount of backlash.by PeteD - General
I've recently been seeing an increase in unexplainable jams while printing with PLA. My Nozzle is clean of any blockages and there are no lumps in my filament. The tube is clean of dust and debris. I've been searching some of the other forums and found this: Apparently putting a dab of canola oil on the end of your filament as you load it into the printer will help avoid jams. Has anyone hby PeteD - General
It looks like only the epoxy PCB is damaged, but to make sure it's OK, you can hook the board up to a volt meter and see if it is taking on the proper load.by PeteD - General
Meh, I've used nothing but cheap stuff since I got into 3D printing last year. I'm used to it. Thanks for the tip. Are there any other US suppliers?by PeteD - General
For the first time since receiving it, I used some sample Faberdashery plastic that had come with my printer to print a small object yesterday. I am amazed at the quality of the filament and how well it printed and bridged. Does anyone know of any US suppliers that sells PLA with the same kind of quality as can be found with Faberdashery filament?by PeteD - General
I thought this was something people on this forum would get a kick out of, since the creators used some RepRap ideas and software to make it. Engineers at MTU have published a DIY $1500.00 metal printer using MIG welding equipment and some RepRap Software and design ideas.by PeteD - General
Would a spinning threadless ballscrew work as a filament driver? Or is the diameter of filament too unreliable? The biggest hurtle I can think of is that variation in the filament diameter would cause the ballscrew to disengage.by PeteD - Delta Machines

IDK who in this community has seen this one, but I'm curious to know what reprapers think of it. It certainly looks like a very different approach to any of the photolithographic printers I've seen before.by PeteD - General
True, but the Filastruder really has been pretty reliable for me too. Please note that only applies to ABS filament. I haven't yet gotten as good or as consistent of results when I attempt PLA.by PeteD - General
Just curious, how much additional error is introduced in each macrocreation iteration? Will it scale up at the same rate, or will we be seeing exponential increases? nicholas.seward Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > @terribleperson: The reuleaux triangle matches the > usable area. Will you have hardware/electronics only kits as well? I have access to a 3D printer and can make my own plastic parts.by PeteD - Delta Machines
They're creating a new API that will let developers on its platform put 3D printing capabilities into their apps. I wouldn't be surprised if they're going for some sort of power play in the control of the software.by PeteD - General
You can do that with some PVA glue at room temperature.by PeteD - General

@VDX Would ceramic be a better material for a gun barrel than ABS plastic? I thought it would be too brittle of a material to be used in such an application.by PeteD - General
Looks like someone printed a more reliable, (nearly) all plastic gun on a Lulzbot. This one has a rifled barrel. A Much 'nastier' proposition than Defense Distributed's Liberator.by PeteD - General
One of the items I'm trying to make is the VEND from thingiverse. I only have .stl files available, and shrinking the entire object isn't an option, since the jar wouldn't fit if I did. So, I'd like to keep it in the same scale and print it in pieces. This will (barely) fit on my bed, but is a bit too high. (my printer's height is 110 mm) I was thinking of cutting off the 'face' and printingby PeteD - General
OS Printing llc. has started to sell 2lb bags of PLA, ABS and HDPE pellets for a decent price. They also sell colorant masterbatches. This is the site that filastruder owners are being referred to for their pellet supplies.by PeteD - General
I've got several items I want to print, but are too large for the build volume of my printer. I don't have any experience in 3D CAD drawing, so all of the software suites are unfamiliar to me. What is the best software for doing simple .stl edits, such as splitting them into smaller pieces or putting in my own support structures, and has a good supportive community for answering my questions?by PeteD - General
They just added another $200 category for kits to be shipped in August. Keep an eye on the Kickstarter. It looks like they will continue to add kit categories until the Kickstarter closes.by PeteD - General

I haven't tried it, but you can take a look at this: Hope that helps.by PeteD - General
What are you trying to do? If you want plastic with metal in it, that would work great... But why would you want plastic with metal powder in it? It won't be very conductive and it won't look much like metal. Do you mean this as a way to print metal parts? People have tried printing metal pastes similar to what you are describing, then curing the print to have a 100% metal object. This proceby PeteD - Reprappers
That is a very high temp to be printing PLA. I generally print around 180C. Do you mean ABS?by PeteD - Reprappers
