Yeah I might try that now I've seen slic3r do it but it could take hours to tweak all the skeinforge settings to try and eliminate the random loops and blobs. I tried loads of settings to eliminate them and solve the problem of incomplete perimeters (see pic) but nothing seemed to make a difference so I assumed it was the backlash in the exrtruder. Slic3r does complete perimeters, minimal blobbinby skyte - Reprappers
I tried playing with the skeinforge settings but it was really hard to actually make a difference. Slic3r worked straight out of the box, so to speak. I definitely think printing the perimeters from the inside out gives better results on things like gear teeth though. What I want to acheive next is a second extruder printing a water soluable support material... that seems to be what the "next sby skyte - Reprappers
I thought I had extruder problems due to getting excessive blobbing, big gaps on perimeters and bad results on supported prints. I stripped the extruder, got rid of the back lash due to an ill-fitting drive nut in the extruder gear but it had no effect on the above problems so I tried Slic3r after using Skeinforge since first building the printer. Slic3r seems to have cured the blobbing at the sby skyte - Reprappers
I'd definitely look to print in sections and glue together afterwards. If the print goes well the join will be no more noticeable than the layersby skyte - Reprappers
This is interesting... On my Mendel the default settings are a layer height of 0.4mm but its a 0.3mm nozzle diameter. I tried reducing the layer height but things got messy... I'll try again though. Anyone got any good advice on where to find good starting point settings? It feels like there are soooooo many settings in Skeinforge, the help is OK but not great and its hard to know where to staby skyte - Printing
Hi Johnny, Did you fix this? I've just started with my Mendel and I'm getting similar blobs. I think it could be down to settings in Skeinforge under the tabs "Oozebane", "Oozesteps" and "Splodge". I'm trying to read about these but there seems to be no help for Oozesteps at the moment. I also get small gaps in perimeters... so for example when the printer prints the outline of a hole it stopby skyte - General Mendel Topics
I will try this when i next go to Morrissons! My Reprappro Mendel printed fine onto glass using either cheap nail polish remover or Boots lens cleaner... prints had to be cooled to around 35degC and were hard to remove. Then one day nothing would stick beyond 10mm in height so I ended up resorting to kapton tape. I tried turning the glass ove but it made no difference which made me question whby skyte - Printing
The hot end diameter will have a slight effect on the resolution of your prints... for example any gear teeth will have a 0.5mm radius at the top of the tooth with a 0.5mm hot end and a 0.3mm radius at the top of the tooth with a 0.3mm hot end. So if the teeth are too fine/small then they might get blurred into a cylinder. If you draw one of the gear teeth and then apply a 0.5mm radius / filletby skyte - Printing
I've just started getting problems with prints not sticking to the glass for more than about 10mm high prints... To begin with every print stuck so well I would have to wait for a bed temp of 30degC before I could get the print off. It was often hard to get the print off the bed. Then suddenly prints started coming unstuck after 10mm height. I tried turning the glass over and using the other sby skyte - Printing
Hi, has anyone got any tips for aligning the drive belt on the Y-axis so it runs true over both bearings? I've tried adjusting the x-position of the idler bearing and the x-position of the y-motor but it seems almost impossible to get it to run true. Also the motor seems to run smooth and then, without obvious reason, run with about twice the resistance even though the belt isn't rubbing on anyby skyte - Reprappers
