Great thanks, got it to work using that, in any event here is the error I am getting: <54><51><31><02><00><00>[54][51][31][02][00][00]Read fail 2 Had the same experience today where one time when I powered up the board and started stepper tester it worked, slider moved, lights blinked etc. but then could not duplicate again? Hi Guys, I haven't been able to do a ton of work but even still I am stuck on this UCB.... ugh. If you recall I had tested all voltages on the board and tested my interconnect wires. I double checked that I could still do the echo test with PCom using all connectors. I never did have any luck getting the poke utility via SVN through eclipse, tried the terminal method described but cannot locatby TimmyH79 - Controllers
So the stratasys auction ended at $2550 which seems really reasonable to me since it had software and everything. Was it anyone from here that picked it up? If not guess the search will continue...by TimmyH79 - General
Well the good news is that I made a stupid mistake, looked at pictures in instructions rather than silkscreen and didn't notice that the Rx/Tx tabs are on the same side for the UCB now. So the original error message went away but now I get: sendMessage error - retrying (repeats) I tested both cables by doing an echo test with each and they were successful, next I tried to download the poke utby TimmyH79 - Controllers
I was afraid it was going to be a wiring issue, maybe I will try and remake my Tx/Rx connectors with heavier gauge wire, I used 22 now which went in to the connectors fine and I couldn't pull them out with moderate force but who knows.. Johnathan, just out of curiosity do you get the same error if you have a non-jumpered PCOM board plugged in (just empty Tx/Rx)? I didn't try that and might be aby TimmyH79 - Controllers
Hi everyone, sorry to heap another person on to the pile of users having UCB issues but count me in. After a string of successes to this point I am a little stuck with the UCB, I have board 1.2.1 for UCB and PCOM and am running reprapv0.8.1. Hex files were downloaded from sourceforge. All running on ubuntu So my PCOM went together great, got the echo test and host software recognized then buiby TimmyH79 - Controllers
Pat, That was a much better post than my first post, way to burst onto the scene. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that your generous offer is much appreciated. I was going to suggest a similar proposal but I just don't really have the space at my house to store the machine properly. If this works out I nominate you for RepRap sainthood. How far along is your machine?by TimmyH79 - General
I had actually already contacted the guy (Art) about the stratasys software for the 1650 auction and he replied that he has the software and it is included but no manuals. "Hi Tim, We are running 3.4.1. We have disks for that version and 2.1 and 4.4 which will be included. I cannot find the manual. Thanks for looking, Art" Still at $1000, keep your fingers crossed...by TimmyH79 - General
Kind of going way back to the beginning of this thread but wanted to pass on info to any fellow repstrappers in my shoes: I bought the usb PIC programmer with ZIF from virtual village and just got it today, programmed up all the stepper chips like a charm. Only one trick which was the packaged installer is for 16-bit installshield (did not see linux support, hoorah for dual boot) so if you haveby TimmyH79 - Controllers
Zach, Looks like that auction is from an educational institute of some sort, perhaps if you emailed him and tried to see if you could work a deal for a low price in the interest of research the guy would go for it? There are no bids now so he could still cancel the auction. Anyhow thought it might be worth considering but I am not really a "core member" so didn't want to solicit him in theby TimmyH79 - General
Zach, It is funny you mentioned the ebay auction because that was what I was looking at as well. Any idea if that thing could operate in a basement or a garage? I know you are supposed to keep the material free of moisture but that has a seperate compartment for storage that you could add a dessicant bag to. My initial exuberence over buying it was tempered slightly when I saw that itby TimmyH79 - General
I think this idea has a good deal of merit but I was curious where you got your figure for thousands of dollars for a set of Darwin parts? I tried to look at the STL files and add up the volumes for a set and came out to something less than 50in3 (not including support material)? Did I just mess something up in the calculation? I would possibly be willing to buy an old stratasys (if I could fby TimmyH79 - General
Hey Dan, Sounds like you and I are at about the same point in construction, I am waiting on my PIC programmer to get here to fire up my Universal Boards but have otherwise assembled the three to step one like yourself. I will follow this thread so if you have any more good tips like the "com" v "COM" please share them and I will do the same as we will probably be hitting a lot of the sameby TimmyH79 - Reprappers
Please order one for me as well, this is great news! Thanks for all your hard work, as soon as we can get printing the plastic parts I think everything will be in place!by TimmyH79 - Reprappers
I am talking to a local prototyping shop here in Houston about making the parts as a kit and possibly getting a bulk deal if enough people are interested. He has the object files and BOM and should have a quote back to me before too long. I don't have much experience with that kind of thing but from what I gather usually it is pretty expensive. Anyhow I will let you know!by TimmyH79 - General
Hey I am over in Houston, not all that close but maybe the closest there is. Only have my powercomms board done and some parts on hand for more. Big problem for me is the mechanical pieces so if you have access to any type of prototyping gear at school maybe we could help each other out. Anyhow post a reply if you are interested!by TimmyH79 - General
Thanks for all the help guys, I just ordered the parts for all my Universal Boards / Stepper controllers and testers. Should be a busy weekend! I will look out for you guys on IRC next time I am online and we can chat in real time for a change.by TimmyH79 - Reprappers
Okay, two last questions and I will stop bothering you for at least a little while: 1) When I ordered my parts for the Power Comms board I downloaded a BOM that could be directly imported into Mouser's project system. This was great and easy but now I can not find that page nor the listing for the other boards! Are they still around on the site somewhere, if they are and you could post the linby TimmyH79 - Reprappers
Well despite the fact that I used hyperterminal for the test I did install minicom on my ubuntu partition just not as familiar with that and wanted to limit the number of unknowns for my first test. I installed a standard ubuntu partition and followed your instructions on the wiki to install the libraries by hand. Important caveat: I have not installed the development tools yet, just the host sby TimmyH79 - Reprappers
Hello everyone, I live down in Houston and have just gotten started on my long journey to having a Darwin. Saw the feature about you folks in MAKE magazine and figured I might be able to help out. So far I have swapped my trusty laptop to ubuntu dual boot and installed the host software with trappings and recently finished my PowerComms Board!
