Thanks for the reply. The defaults are set to "78.7402, 78.7402, 533.3333333, 865.888". I did some calculations based on my components using this, and the X and Y at least seem about right (i got 80 for both). One thing i noticed in the advanced configuration though, is the microstepping. I'm currently set to do 1/16th microstepping i believe (#define MICROSTEP_MODES {16,16,16,16,16}). I'm almost complete building my first reprap, but I am running into an issue i can't seem to find a fix for; it appears the scale of movement is off. I homed my X, Y, and Z axises, and commanded all 3 to move 10mm. My X and Y both moved 150mm, and my Z moved 15mm. Does anyone happen to know if there is somewhere I can go to adjust my movement scale? If it helps, I am using Marlin firmware (can'by peterno3 - Reprappers
Thank you for your help, I finally got my heat sinks in, and adding one seems to let it heat up to full temp. Do you happen to know, does the mosfet generate the most heat when the bed is heating to max temp? Would adding a fan during warm up, then removing it during the actual build help, or would it need a fan through the whole build? My electronics are mounted in a place that won't easily allby peterno3 - Reprappers
Waitaki, the heatsink only goes on the mosfet, correct? The fuses don't get cooled other than by the airflow? Dave, interesting i hadn't heard of that yet. I'll look into that if I keep having issues. My heatbed did actually have shorting issues at first, when my wires were touching the exposed copper plate on the through-holes. I have been having some issues with the heatbed on my first reprap, and was hoping to get a little bit of help. When i turn my heat bed on (set to the default ABS of 110deg), it starts to heat up, but then turns off when it reaches about 60deg, and doesn't turn back on. I've tried it with and without the hotend turned on, but it behaves the same either way, so i don't think its that my RAMPS isn'by peterno3 - Reprappers
Ah, that will do it. I thought I had adjusted my firmware configuration, but apparently hadn't. I used a Marlin Configuration Calculator (http://marlinbuilder.robotfuzz.com/index.php) to make sure I got all the right settings, and now it seems to be working fine. I'm currently building my first reprap, and have finally finished the hardware and am trying to get the software setup. I installed the latest version of Marlin as my firmware, and have been using Pronterface/Printrun as my G-Code sender. I have been running into a weird issue where the default motor speed is to high for my motors (NEMA17s), and they just emit a high pitched whine when i try toby peterno3 - Reprappers
Thanks AbuMaia, I had this same issue, and your suggestion fixed it. For some reason Pronterface was defaulted to 3000mm/s; no wonder it was having issues. Although this fixed it for manual movements, when i try to home the setup it still whines/doesn't move. Does homing use a different speed setting for some reason? Found the issue! It turns out that the issue was with the heatbed (I'm using an MK2a). I don't know if this is a design issue or if i just got a bad part, but it seems as though the 2 solder pads on the underside of the board are connected to the copper base layer, and so are wired together. The solder pads on the top surface are fine though, so re-wiring the board should fix the issue. Thank youby peterno3 - Reprappers
I think the resistance is 0 ohms. My multimeter read around 1-2ohms, but thats about the same as the resistance of the multimeter. I might borrow a better quality one from work tomorrow to double check thoughby peterno3 - Reprappers
I played around with this issue some more, and it seems as though my heat bed is bad. As soon as i disconnected it, the power supply starts up fine. I'm even able to run the hotend without a 5V load, although it sounds like the load will help regulate the 12V voltage. I'll need to do some more digging to see if i can find a short, otherwise ill just have to get a new bed. Thanks for your help!by peterno3 - Reprappers
Thank you all for the replys. Lazzymonk, the 3.3V sensing wire is definitely still connected. It came hardwired to the 3.3V line, so i just left it alone. I'm using a XFX Core Edition Pro 550W power supply, which claims it can supply 44A to the 12V line. It has something called "EasyRail Technology", but from the description it actually sounds like it would help instead of hurt. In any case i haby peterno3 - Reprappers
I am in the process of building my first reprap (a prusa i3), and have it pretty much all built and wired. I'm having a bit of a problem with the power supply though. When i first turned it on i was able to move the motors with Ponterface, but as soon as i tried to turn on the hotend the power supply shut off. Now the power supply's fan just twitches, but no power is supplied. I'm using an ATX 2by peterno3 - Reprappers
