I hope I am not breaking any sort of forum rule here, but I may need to have someone print me an extruder body in ABS. I recently completed a Prusa i3, but came to find out the part set I bought in ignorance is PLA. This has caused me a problem in trying to print ABS, namely extruder body warping from nozzle and extruder motor heat. I am attempting to eke out an extruder body before the PLA one Iby drastic00 - Reprappers
I could not find the exact video I used (that one had a guy with a Middle-Eastern accent, very good vid if you can find it), but this one is pretty good as well: I'll send along a link to the other video if I find it.by drastic00 - Reprappers
I just received this geeetech Smart LCD controller. Not sure if I am missing a bit of Marlin code or what. Everything seems to work ok except the encoder dial. Click switch works, but with no dial I can only cycle between the info screen and the menu screen. Here is a quick vid: Am I missing something obvious? Is this a bad encoder?by drastic00 - Reprappers
I am asking what speed he is running the fan. Half speed? Full speed all the time? What is giving good results? I am just getting started in this. I would imagine there are some applications in which you would not want the fan running all the time, but I do not know. I have not seen the posts you mention.by drastic00 - Reprappers
If you are building the box frame version this is very good: [78.47.92.212] That link comes from here I have also found a lot of good videos on YouTube. For the particular style of i3 that I built ('modified' box frame), I found videos by a guy named John Ridley to be very helpful. Just go on youTube and search for "Prusa i3 Box Frame." If you can afford a kit, it will speed things up a lot,by drastic00 - Reprappers
I am having this problem also. What command/speed are you using to set your fan?by drastic00 - Reprappers
That was fast, Thank You Sir! Exactly the kind of info I am looking for... Thermistor seems to be tracking temp properly, so I guess no worries there. Erring on the side of caution here. So I believe I see...the heat will be regulated by firmware/temp monitoring via thermistor; and if I understand and am guessing correctly, the fan regulates temp strictly to control and prevent of filament durinby drastic00 - Reprappers
Hello, I have a box frame Prusa i3 that I built. Working on calibration... I tried extruding a bit, so far so good, except I am not seeing the fan kick in. When should it start up? As soon as I turn on the heat? The fan is good and is wired to the RAMPS correctly. I did find that I will need to reverse the extruder direction (in Marlin or just the connector), i.e. it extrudes when reversing itby drastic00 - Reprappers
QuoteIstale Type M119 in pronterface to check the end stop status. None of them should be triggered, they should all be open. If any of them are triggered, this would explain your problem. Yes! Thank You! I followed the photo guide for assembly by Kliment. The issue was apparently (I have a cheap meter with no audible ohm/continuity detection; that'll be at the top of my shopping list now) thatby drastic00 - Reprappers
Hey All, I recently was able to connect to Prusa i3 in Pronterface. I was able to make changes in Marlin and get the printer to home properly. 3 axes home button works, however individual axis home only make it travel a cm or so at each mouse press, until endstops trigger. Also, When I try to manually move the axes in Pronterface, there is no response from the printer. Only the x axis respondsby drastic00 - Reprappers
Following this worked for getting me connected to Pronterface (you may need to turn the volume up). Now if I can just get those pesky endstops in the right place I can begin calibration.by drastic00 - Reprappers
Hey, I have put together a Prusa i3 which I am currently trying to calibrate. My power supply is a old Dell laptop charger (12V, 18A). In the Marlin firmware, there are two options: ATX and Xbox 360 power supplies. I selected Xbox and it powers the printer, but I am just wondering whether using the Xbox firmware option will later cause me any issues. If so, what file might I need to change to iby drastic00 - Reprappers
Quotecat.farmer A's goto A's 2 being "-" same with B's Thank you very much. Someday I will understand the difference in A and A-by drastic00 - General
Hey all, I am trying to figure this out right now. First build, Prusa i3. My NEMA 17s have 6 wires (all the same color except commons). By manufacturer diagram, I see that.. Pin 1 is B- Pin 3 is B Pin 4 is A Pin 6 is A- How do these correspond to the RAMPS board pins, which show left-to-right order of 2B 2A 1A 1B? Possibility 1) For instance, does 2B correspond to B-? Possibility 2) Or do Iby drastic00 - General
So I figured out that two rods were slightly out of tolerance in a few places with the help of calipers, and the aforementioned seller is sending replacements, along with 4 LM8UUs that I need for the 'trouble.' Highly recommended seller. Thanks again for the ideas, everyone. @KingRahl: I think I'll try that, but with a carefully placed heat gun for more careful control. Hope I don't end up neediby drastic00 - Reprappers
Oh, hey, @KingRahl, how do recommend heating the parts to get those suckers aligned? Dremel seems a bit hasty since the difference is just a few microns or so...by drastic00 - Reprappers
Thank You All for the responses! Learning by doing... You all mostly were correct, it seems. It looks like I have a few things going on after further fiddling. I took the rods (lightly oiled with 3-in-1, recommended by the rod seller from ebay, bluscreen), and vertically dropped them through the bearings snapped in the parts one at a time. I found that a couple of the bearings are sticky. I alsby drastic00 - Reprappers
Hey all, So I am slowly putting together a Prusa i3. I bought a set of rods off eBay for about $55 and a set of 10 bearings for something like $8 from China. I put the bearings in the plastic parts and tried these on the smooth rods. Some parts are -pretty- smooth and others have a little bit of a drag on certain areas of a given rod. I tried Teflon lube on the bearings and it seemed to help someby drastic00 - Reprappers
The guide is back up *PHEW* jcsummers, I'll download the file in case it's ever down and I need it, thanks!by drastic00 - Reprappers
@jcsummers: That would be awesome. Some of the photos are still up, but some, like those with detailed pictures of the electronics and wiring are invaluable. I should have downloaded the whole site. Maybe it'll be back soon; who knows what happened. @svalsorim: thanks! Yeah there are a lot of good vids out there, some have more info on others on box frame... Thanks everyone for the responses!!!by drastic00 - Reprappers
On this page this link to photo guide for building a box frame Prusa i3 has been down for a couple of days now [78.47.92.212] Anyone know what is up, or have an alternate build guide? I have gathered a lot of parts now and am about ready to get going, but now I have no guide to follow... I hope this is a server issue or something, because I don't think I can do without this documentation.by drastic00 - Reprappers
