Thanks for the replies, I really like the Cherry Pi III and the support around it too, I think I need to sit down and read every page of the cherry pi thread, I am a bit confused by the different variants of the parts (magnetic/non-magnetic, some pictures show the arms with and without wire and springs attached), I don't know why but im not keen on magnetic parts on a printer, I can just imagineby Horse Renoir - Delta Machines
Ah I didn't realise you could buy them pre-drilled, that certainly makes the cherry pi iii very tempting, Is there any kind of build instructions available for it? I know there is a thread all about it with lots and lots of pages on it (which I think is great) but im not sure if there is any build instructions in it. Would it be an issue if I added a 300mm dia heatbed to the build?by Horse Renoir - Delta Machines
Thanks for the info, I have decided that I want to use 20x20 extrusion and vslot wheels and have a 300mm diameter bed with approx. 350mm build height, im guessing all of these machines could scale up to that. I also would really love to have good auto levelling. Im not sure about the Griffin, it looks like a great machine but there is very little in the way of pictures / videos of it working andby Horse Renoir - Delta Machines
Hi Guys, I am interested in building a delta printer but I am stuck as to which one to go for and could do with some advice please. The ones I have narrowed it down to is the Mini Kossel, the Cherry Pi III and the Griffin. I am currently leaning towards the Cherry Pi III but with me having no experience with delta printers I am unsure what the differences are.by Horse Renoir - Delta Machines
Hi all, im looking to upgrade my i3 from standard m5 threaded to proper leadscrews but im having trouble finding which ones to use that will fit the X Ends and a supplier that doesnt charge a fortune for them ideally in the UK but anywhere will do. I'm also not sure whether or not to just get the leadscrew and use a flexible coupler to attach it or to get the motor with a built in leadscrew shby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi, Im having issues where i have gaps in my prints, ive rechecked the esteps and ive tried different print settings but it doesnt seem to help, i was using a 0.35mm jhead but ive switched to a 0.4mm E3D, i wasnt having these issues before the change, its even worse if i do a large print that has a large flat, its almost as tho the filament is being laid to thinly. Ive attached 2 pictures, theby Horse Renoir - Printing
Hi cnc I tried your advice and disconnected the lcd/sd and ran the printer directly from the i3, i also got a much better usb cable and re-routed the wiring to give space between the motor wires and the usb cable, i attached fans to the ramps board and ensured the yellow fuses where being well cooled, i ran a print of a vase and after afew layers it locked up again, i tried to reconnect to it vby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi cnc, Thanks for your advice, i disconnected the usb and moved the power supply further away from the printer in case it was causing some interference, i then attempted to print again from the sd, after 30 or 40 minutes the printer locked up and on the lcd display some jargo (please see attached picture). The yellow fuses on the ramps board were hot however it seems to lock up whether i havby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi cnc, Im using the standard usb lead that came with the mega 2560 but i ruled out usb interference due to the fact the problem still occurs even when printing from sd. Im also using 115200 baudrate. I didnt have a fan blowing over the ramps however i did attach 2 x 40mm fans to blow directly over the ramps board and tried printing again, after about half a layer it locked up again. Hi, im having a random problem with my i3 where it simply locks up. Im using ramps 1.4 and a mega 2560. It can print fine for days then it starts printing and random locks up and through repetier host gives the error printer halted kill called, when this happens the printing stops and loses connection to the computer, even the lcd locks up and the only solution is to pull the power. Hi waitaki, I only used the offsets to see if lowering the nozzle helped with adhesion, i used feeler gauges to get an accurate nozzle height of 0.2mm, i even went down to 0.15mm and it made no difference. I will try going down to 0.1mm gap but i thought with a 0.4mm nozzle the gap was supposed to be 0.2mm? i am going to delete all my repetier host profiles and start from scratch (and removeby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi all, thanks for your replies, to clarify, when i said i tell it to extrude 100mm and thats exactly what it extrudes i was referring to the filament going into the hotend and not the extruded material. yanickr1973 , The model i am using is a cylinder that i downloaded and it looks perfectly circle when i look at it in repetier host John de Michele , ive checked and my bed is level, i used feeby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi all, I have a prusa i3 and have just switched from a jhead to the E3D hotend with the standard .4mm nozzle, im having issues with the filament not seeming to adhere to the bed and also the filament lines not merging with eachother. As pictures speak louder than words i have attached 2 pictures. In the first picture you can see gaps between the filament paths as if the paths are to far apaby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
The fuses on the ramps board? No I dont, should I?by Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi Yvan Im suprised to that no one has commented, perhaps its not a common problem. Thanks for your insight, im using a 12v 30amp power supply, i moved the power supply so that it had better ventilation but again it locked up, i inspected the power supply and the only thing i could find that was possibly abit odd was that the fan was blowing outwards (sucking air out of the psu), i thought psuby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hey peeps, I have a prusa i3 using ramps 1.4 and mega 2560 with marlin firmware that ive been using for nearly a year but its started locking up everytime i try printing. The first time it happened i was printing via SD card (i have the LCD) and was about an hour in to a 2 hour print and the printer simply locked up, the motors stopped, the heated bed/ hotend went off and the LCD was unrespoby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi I had the exact same issue, i went through 3 mega's before i found the issue, in my case it was a dodgy ramps, for some reason the ramps kept blowing the 5V regulator on the mega (i think one of you're pictures shows a lump on the regulator). I purchased a new ramps and touch wood havent had an issue since. You can stop the ramps feeding power into the mega by removing the D1 diode (assumingby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi tymm, The belts are tight enough to be plucked but not too tight, the frame itself is a tight as i can get it. I am printing perimeters at 40mm/s (although i have tried 30mm/s with no difference) and infill at 50mm/s Hi Cnc, thanks for you're reply, i realize that i have Z banding however i thought i would cover all bases and include solutions for z wobble to try and work out all issby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
hello peeps, so to give you all an update, my tests over the weekend didnt help at all. I tried the anti Z wobble isolators and removed the nuts in the x ends when i decoupled it from the z axis, i made sure the bottoms of the threaded rods were flat, i tried flexible couplers and solid printed couplers, no difference, i had the threaded rod sat directly onto the motor shaft and also triedby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi akhlut, Thanks for those links, they really helped, i understand now (at least i think i do lol) The z isolator basiclly acts as a platform for the x ends to sit on, so any wobble in the threads will allow the platform to move side to side but since the x ends are only sitting on the isolators the wobble isnt tranferred to the x axis, so the only movement on the x axis is the z movement,by Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi akhlut, An interesting suggestion with using m8 fine pitch, i wasnt aware they made a 1mm pitch one, is there a reason why this is better than the standard 1.25mm pitch? after looking it up on the net i came across this quote '' The terms “coarse” and “fine” have (in this context) no relation to the manufacturing quality of the thread'. So it would seem that the quality between the two dby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Okay, first and foremost id like to thank you guys for sticking with me this far, I think i understand the issue abit better, since the threaded rod is designed to hold nuts etc and not for linear movement the threads arent as precise and the defects are translated into the print. Acme leadscrews are designed for cnc use and the threads are more precise / smoother and should in theory provide beby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi all, Heres the comparison pictures, They are both printed at 0.2mm layer heights The one on the left is printed using Cura and the one on the right is printed using Repetier Hostby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hey everyone, thanks for all your comments / suggestions, heres what i have tried / trying at the moment Sublime , I am currently printing a test print using cura instead of repetier host as you suggested and i will take a picture of the results side by side for a direct comparison akhlut i believe extruder is calibrated alright, i have measured the filament and it is on average 1.75mm (rangesby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
After running through my options i feel like the only real option that should in theory completely solve this issue is by switching the Z axis to be belt driven, sadly my design skills are abit lacking so this might be a very long shotby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Thanks Sublime, it was the eeprom settings that was the issue, i disabled it and was able to run at full steps Sadly akhlut changing to full steps didnt help, in fact it was slighty worse,i was hoping it would solve the issue but will have to try something else, Any suggestions? at this point i will try anything, even if it is abit extremeby Horse Renoir - Reprappers

Ah i understand what you mean now, thanks for the example, im using a ramps 1.4 with a4988 stepper drivers, after looking on the net i found out that to switch to full steps i needed to remove all three jumpers from under the z axis stepper motor, i removed them and made the changes to marlin as you stated, connected the printer to repetier host and attempts to move the z axis, there was a very hby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Hi akhlut Yeah my z-axis motors are disabled when not in use, below are my current settings for that and steps // Disables axis when it's not being used. #define DISABLE_X false #define DISABLE_Y false #define DISABLE_Z false #define DISABLE_E false // For all extruders #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT {80,80,4000,108} So what you're saying is that at 16x micro-stepping the higher resoluby Horse Renoir - Reprappers
Im using a direct drive extruder with a mk7 drive gear, ive re checked the esteps and it seems okay however its difficult to get it exact, if i told it to extrude 10mm and it extruded 9.72 is that exceptable or is it to far out of range?by Horse Renoir - Reprappers
