Is anyone interested in meeting at a weekend in Portsmouth- 2 minutes from the station or free parking. I could have access to our technology block: laser cutter; lathe ; pillar drill, internet. Cost would depend on numbers to hire the room but probably not much. Purpose could be to share problems make stuff fix problems or just meet. Send me a PM with your E mail if you are interested sayingby andy hall - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Hi John, I am still around and still tinkering- see your e mail for message- I drive past Havant every day Andyby andy hall - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
I have found that if the base layer is held down well warping is not a major problem. I have printed a NEMA 23 motor holder 8cm X 10 cm X 4 cm in ABS and only has abot 1mm of warp. I extrude onto a glass chopping board coivered in evostick. My machine runs at 800 mm min not very fast and I extrude at about 230 degrees. If the bottom layercomes unstuck then warping is massive. I have found this useful page on how to identify stepper wires. It works.Andyby andy hall - Controllers
Ian,(and anyone else who wants it) Attached is my code- pretty rubbish- It works so I have not bothered to tidy it up (and most of it is borrowed from the gen 2 electroniocs set up pages) Currently I have 2 arduinos one to control the temperature and the other to control the stepper speed. I take a wire from the break out board and attach it to pin 3 analog input and control it with M8 and M(by andy hall - EMC2
I use EMC. Not knowing much about programming etc all I did was use the coolant flood signal from (I think pin 9) connect that to an analog port on the arduino detect if the signal is high or low and use this to turn my extruder on and off. I have also programmed it so that it steps quickly on turn on and then when it turns off it reverses to stop blobbing. I use skeinforge to generate code andby andy hall - EMC2
I have just built a pinch wheel extruder using a stepper a bracket from B and Q, two pieces of turned down brass bar and several nuts and bolts. It works pretty well and was easy to make. See my blog for details- one key part was using the tap in the lathe to machine a surface on the gear as this keeps the plastic in a groove (as by Andy Kirby (http://kirbyandco.blogspot.com/2009/01/cutting-wormby andy hall - Mechanics
I have been battling with the warping/lack of adhesion problem when printing HDPE. I have tried all sorts of different plastics borrowed from the tech department's scrap bin and nothing worked as the bottom of the raft would not adhere. I also tried using copper strip board and heating it with a hot air gun and this worked quiet well but it bent the strip board (which could be fixed by holdingby andy hall - Mechanics
I have spent a while now setting up an EMC based repstrap and have now got it working and it is now producing reasonable quality prints. See attached photograph of Nopheads heart shaped box printed in HDPE with no rework just as it came from the machine. I cannot programme the M1XX codes in EMC so I have to take the skeinforge g code output and then edit and replace swapping M101 for M8, m103by andy hall - Reprappers
I have seen the new host software on the main blog but cannot see how to download it and get it running on my (windows Xp) computer. Can anyone help? Andyby andy hall - RepRap Host
I have got all the Darwin bits but I also wanted a CNC milling machine and I wanted to tackle one thing at once as I have also struggled with getting electronics and software working never knowing whether it was the programme or the electronics that I had installed/soldered together incorrectly. Now I will work with the arduino to contol extruder speed and temperature and then look at getting aby andy hall - Reprappers
After a lot of messing about- burning out circuit boards, learning and not understanding JAVA , setting up UBUNUTU PC's, learning linux and command lines, assembling bits, ordering endless bits form Zak, Ian and EBAY, I have just printed out some hollow squares and I am feeling very pleased with myself so I thought I would share it with anyone who is interested. Many thanks Ian , That is much clearer and it worked! Sorry for the delay in replying term started and I had to plan lessons and teach! Andyby andy hall - RepRap Host
I have the same problem. I am running on windows with the RRf 100K thermistor. I do not know what "create a symbolic link to the appropriate file (which will be something like Thermistor_r0_100000_t0_25_r1_0_r2_4700_beta_3960.h) called ThermistorTable.h." means. Specifically the create a symbolic link part. Sorry for my ignorance! Andyby andy hall - RepRap Host
Many thanks, that worked. For anyone else who has as little understanding of java as I do all you need in the box in COM3 in capitals- lower case does not work.by andy hall - RepRap Host
I am trying to get the host software to work on a windows machine and using an arduino board. I have followed all the instructions for installing java and the add ons. I downloaded the sketch to the arduino board with no problem but when I click on the .bat file to make the host software run it comes up with Error initiliasing comms:java.lang.Exception Could not find device at /dev/ttyUSB0. I am planning to go to the Science Festival on Saturday. Anyone else going + want to grab a beer or lunch or just meet to share frustrations/triumphs on building their reprap? Andyby andy hall - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
I think I have followed the instuctions for downloading the arduino firmware correctly however when I complile the progamme I get a whole series of errors starting with 24: Error: repstrapper.h:no such file or directory. In file included from cartesioan bot_snap_v1.cpp:1: cartesianbot_snap_v1.h26:24:error:repstrapper.h:no such file or directory and so it continues with lots of CartesianBot_Sby andy hall - Controllers

This is the one I used which on closer examination is not exactly the same number (oops) but the wiring worked! Andyby andy hall - Controllers
Sorry for the stupid question but how do you post stuff onto the wiki? The fact that the jumper needs to be on also needs to be added to the wiki. If you type the spec "fl57sth51 stepper" into google you can get the spec from this website as a PDF but it is copywrited so I would hestitate to post it. Andyby andy hall - Controllers
Fixed the problem. I got it working by putting a jumper on the slave/master jumper. This solved the problem and I used my original wiring (I have wired together blue and red/white and made blue/white A and red B Then wired together black/white and green then made green/white C and black D.) I also bought a new 350w power supply as the old one was only 200w and was very old. Thanks for theby andy hall - Controllers
It is an old PC power supply. It stops working, I turn it on and off and it starts again Andyby andy hall - Controllers
When I try to compile the stepper driver hack for the DC motor driver the programme will not compile and comes up with the eroor In function 'void loop()'; error expected primary expression before ';' token Any ideas on what to change? Andyby andy hall - Controllers
I have just completed all the Ardunio electronic and I cannot make my stepper motor drive. All 3 LED's come on and 2 change colour but as soon as I plug in the stepper either the leds go out or the power supply trips . When I put a multi meter accross the outputs I get about 10v over a and b and the same over c and d. I am guessing that I have wired up the stepper motor incorrectly unless anyoby andy hall - Controllers
I hate electronics! I have just recieved my boards from RRF in USA and I am now trying to get all the bits for the audrinio boards. Your spreadsheet from rapid electronics helpsloads greenarrow but the search on rapid is awful you type in dip socket and it comes up "Your search does not work"! Has any one ordered bits for these boards? How do you make sure you have the right components? Am I miby andy hall - United Kingdom RepRap User Group

Hello everyone, I have been lurking on these forums for a while an have decided to commit to the project. I have ordered the moulded parts and the PCB's and I am looking foward to recieving them. I have just cut down and drilled the mdf board and bought out all the 8mm bar from B and Q. Just waiting for the bits - hopefully in time for the Christmas holidays Andyby andy hall - Reprappers
