The motor is most likely not your problem. I am assuming that this is a darwin design. I had the exact same problem that you are having when I built mine. There are a few things that I did to fix it. I believe that the problem it a result of too much lateral force on the threaded rod, which causes it to bite into the corner blocks. First, I stabilized the top of the threaded rods by securing theby redskinsjbs - Mechanics
So I had a thought (This is usually where most think 'uh-oh') and someone else has most likely already thought of it before. Right now we have the Darwin. This is great, and I built one which is sitting right next to me at the moment. But I had an idea. Why must when we think of replication does the mind immediately move towards additive manufacturing? My idea is to create a replicate-able CNC mby redskinsjbs - General
More stuff to look at! I saw this on hackaday. It is a robot who can draw portraits of people. i think that the idea behind the humanoid arm doing the drawing is what we were after in this discussion. (and yes, robots are people too)by redskinsjbs - Mechanics

So summer is here and school is out and now I have 8 hours to do stuff with that I didn't have before. I am bored. I need books to read. What do you recommend? Sorry about the ultra-conciseness, but 10 hours of video games seems to make my mind mush. Yea. so I am just looking for some books to read. Could be about 3D printing and the like, but I am open to any genre. I just need some ideas. I juby redskinsjbs - General
We could make a 1:10 scale model of the turbine, but 250cm is HUGE!!!. Nice idea though.by redskinsjbs - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
greenarrow~~ Might I suggest a scribe? That way you could etch things quite easily. Just make a channel which has a spring loaded cap, thus always forcing the scribe onto the work surface.by redskinsjbs - Mechanics
With the linear steppers, you could have one which has the end of its lead screw fixed into the base of the bed, and then simply guide the bed up and down. Simple enough.by redskinsjbs - General

Well Said Forrest. Johnny-- Forrest gave the essential answer. Short, Sweet and to the point. Concise and elegant. 1- RepRap and Fab@Home are the same in that they are both projects attempting to produce, cheap, user-friendly, in-the-home 3D printers. 2-The difference is in what the specific project goals are. Fab@Home really only wants to construct a printer purely to print other things. Reby redskinsjbs - General
The one thing that I can foresee going wrong is the clogging of the spray gun. Currently, many of us are getting clogging in our extruder barrels, and these have hole which are .5 mm at the end. A spray gun is muck finer and I don't know if the viscosity of the plastic would allow it to flow through the nozzle. Take a look at powder 3d printers. They use ink jets and resin to print their 3d objecby redskinsjbs - Mechanics
Yea, thats exactly what I have noticed. If I were to import an stl file to the host and click build, would the electronics do it?by redskinsjbs - Controllers
I don't think that it is the power supply. I just borrowed my friends out of his custom computer, and I don't think that the electronics are drawing more than 800Watts. I didn't test with a mulimeter, but I am assuming that the voltages were fine, considering that is was just running computer electronics before hand.by redskinsjbs - Controllers
I have the exact same problem. I found that I can get it working if I use the SNAP firmware, but who wants to use that? If Zach or somebody could help us out, I am sure that Kyle and I would be really thankful.by redskinsjbs - Controllers
I don't know if the Darwin is rigid enough to hold a dremel. Is it is, you will have to go reeeeaaaaallll slow.by redskinsjbs - General
kyle, what was you layer size? becaues the time is supposed to be close to an exponential time scale for slicing.by redskinsjbs - Controllers
so what is that in gcode? like an hour?by redskinsjbs - Controllers
Steve- I think that Forrest said that 512Kb would give him6 hours of print time, but he isn't running the standard gcode. I think that to figure it out, just print the gcode from Enrique's slicer and see how large the file is.by redskinsjbs - Controllers
Kyle- I just have one point to make out of one of your points. Yes, we as a group here a=have a way over-representation of programmers / 3D modelers, but think about some of the upcoming 3D software that is coming out. The game SPORE by Maxis (I have been drooling for years) www.spore.com is set to release its creature editor in June. Yea. See the problem with this gumstix thing is that I DO own an EEE. Originally, my objective was to just use a second arduino, but i don't know if what I am asking is with the arduino's capabilitiesby redskinsjbs - Controllers
I like the gumstick thing. have a computer package for $415 which gives your a 4.5 inch screen, an SD slot, a linux computer with FAT capability etc, with a USB port as well. This means that I don't have to do anything except figure out how to get Chris Meaghan's GUI onto the computer and I am set. THe price is what is killing me though.
