That would make the quote outrageous then..... Stuff is more expensive here in Perth but that is insane. Will search for other local suppliers. On another note I should get my extruder nozzles (pfte+brass+acorn) back tomorrow ( 3 for 12 beers ). Now that price is more like it.

Hey all, I had a funny one, so funny that I nearly fell of my chair laughing. I was emailing the local plastics distributors about supply of 3mm ABS welding rod. After a couple of no replies and don't stocks one came back to me and said. Sure .... But the minimum order is..... 3000 m ! in 10 300 m rolls. I could build a couple of repraps with that.

The trick I have used in the past is to get a bolt of the same size, put it in a vice. Then clamp the nut in vice-grips ( locking pliers ) and get the thread started. Once you have started a thread in the nylon you should be able to take it off and get it onto the idler.

Our ISP is becoming a distributer of the Chumby ( ) and I was thinking that it would make a great control interface. Thanks Forrest, So from your reply I glean Strip Board will not take the current (I hate magic smoke ) to drive the motors (17 NMEA VEXTA steppers). I suspect that multicore wire soldered directly pin to pin on the power side of the bridge would do the job, or even soldering naked wires along the lengths of the track would be even better for heat sinking. Hey all, I have just got boris flashing _both_ leds. Has anyone managed to get a L289 onto strip board ? This is the driver used in the Stepper Controller 1.1 , I was going to directly attach two directly to the atMega64 so I could get more control via software. Just wondering rather than re-inventing the wheel. Simon

With VIK announcing his revised ponoko design for acrylic I will be going forward with getting one. I have found a local laser cutting service in Perth that can cut the new design. What I was wondering if there were any other Perth Reprappers that would want to get one too. Bulk buy would be cheaper per unit. Simon

Hey Forrest, The arduino interface has got a tow wire library as well (Wire) , I have tested it with my set up and it works. However this is just a byte based interface and does not specify any kind of command system. I suppose my real question is has anyone worked on a control protocol via the two wire interface? I've been making some of my own electronics, I've got an arduino and an atmega8 and L293D hooked up. I have found some good resources for avr code on the net (http://hubbard.engr.scu.edu/embedded/) My question is, has anyone done any coding on a two wire interface for the reprap electronics? Hey reprappers, I'm scheming to put together a Darwin style repstrap. I'm looking at getting parts laser cut by a local supplier ( Perth, Western Australia). Now the plywood design seems to have been superseded by the bits from bytes acrylic design. I have reservations in using acrylic as it has a nasty tendency to crack and fatigue. Does anybody see any issues with using the same pattern
