ayouden: yes I meant getting both nozzles exactly the same Z height. I think they must be closer than a single layer height, unless anyone else knows better. I don't know whether to shim one to level them or devise an adjustable screw system. If they are not exactly the same the second extruder is going to catch on the print. I have also got the nozzles spaced 40mm apart in the X axis. About asby dave3d - General
I have the same problem with Repetier Host. It is because the usb lead looses the signal. Try a different lead with better screening. See my post in the Repetier section. I got an explaination direct from Repetier.by dave3d - Reprappers
I have just converted my Ord Bot Hadron to twin extruders. I am new to all this but I have fitted twin Wades on the top with short PTFE bowden tubes to twin jheads on the x carriage. I am using 1.75 mm filament in 2 mm id / 4mm od tube with pneumatic fittings. Tubes are about 15" long. I tried to keep them as short as possible to reduce compression effects or slack in the system. The reduction inby dave3d - General
I extrude ABS at 235 deg C onto a 6mm glass bed at 110 deg C covered with Kapton tape and a single layer of ABS juice applied on top of the tape with a paint brush. I can print wide objects without warping. More than one coat of juice and they stick too much and have to be pryed off.by dave3d - Reprappers
I checked out "spring form" glass on Amazon and they are all circular in shape so will not fit my printer. Got me thinking. How about a glass chopping board? Smaller ones are 20cm x 30cm and they are made of thin toughened glass. One side is usually a dimpled finish which might help adhesion.by dave3d - General
Kapton tape on glass and a single layer of ABS juice applied to the tape with small paintbrush with bed at 110 deg C. Turn bed down after half a dozen layers. 100 deg C first, another few layers then 90 deg C, ditto 70 deg C, then off. Hot end set at 235 deg C. Also increase number of loops to 7 or 8.by dave3d - General
jb92563: this is like deja vue. I live in the UK and have not long built my first 3d printer. I also saw a program showing Jay Lenos car collection and the 3d printer and scanner setup he had. I thought I must get into this. I researched what was out there and I also went for an OrdBot Hadron. Our Education Minister in the UK, Michael Grove, has said he wants a 3d printer in every school and thby dave3d - General
I had similiar problems with a QU-BD mbe hot end. I spent a lot of time modifying it to get it to work. I drilled it out and added a ptfe liner but it still jammed. Best decision was when I binned it and got a jhead from hotends.com as recommended by uncle bob. Mine was 0.4 nozzle and 1.75 filament size and is the Mk V version. It is a precision part. The machining is superb. I haven't looked bacby dave3d - Reprappers
This is a really interesting idea that could be developed further I think. You could just buy clear transparent filament and inject whatever coloured pigment you want. A multicolour automatic system?by dave3d - General
I am another one who had damage in the same place. I noticed that my mounting bolt and spring were red hot. There was a direct short from the circuit board to earth. I solved the problem by using a small fibre washer (the type used for computer motherboards) under the bolt head.by dave3d - General
I have found out already that there is a big difference in the performance of usb cables. The most stable one I have used is a clear cable where the screening can be seen inside. The worst was a mini usb cable going to a hub. Repetier: are there any settings I can alter in the software to reduce the incidence of this happening eg slowing the baud rate down? I am using Marlin firmware - anyby dave3d - Repetier
Thanks T0mmm. I will try disabling my wifi to see if that does the trick. My wifi is in built in though. I have an old Panasonic Toughbook running XP.by dave3d - Repetier
Occasionally Repetier locks up mid print when connected via usb to my laptop. I have an Arduino mega 2560 and Ramps 1.4. I have got a card reader on the printer. When I print direct from an SD card without the laptop there is not a problem. It locked up again today and I found it had lost the com port. Apart from rebooting the pc and starting again all over, I have found that uninstalling the comby dave3d - Repetier
I am surprised that acetone is miscible in water but this is an interesting approach. Depending on the water concentration, the solvent action would be slowed down and allow more control over the smoothing process. I have tried pure acetone and the action is too quick. ABS turns to goo almost immediately. Another big advantage is having a non flammable mixture. It is not actually a pressurisby dave3d - General
Made by America Instrument / by 3D Printer Supplies/ sold by Jet jet2004 / fulfilled by Amazon, so figure that one out.by dave3d - General
You get what you pay for I think. I am very happy with ABS I bought through Amazon UK. Do a search for Jet ABS, it is made by America Instrument so you know where it comes from. It has the manufacturers logo on it. Not the cheapest but really excellent. I have bought about 4 different coloured spools so far. Supplied by jet_2004.by dave3d - General
Thanks Waitaki. It was exactly as you said. I have now printed the part.by dave3d - General
I would like to print a mirror image of a Wade extruder. I plan on twin extruders and a mirror image would fit better on my printer. How can I do this?by dave3d - General
I had temperature occillation problems on my Mk V Jhead. Typically with set point on 235 deg C, it would sometimes shoot up as high as 247 deg C and cut out when the max limit was set on 245 deg C. I retuned it and widened the 10 deg C band in Marlin to 15 deg C which helped stop it overshooting as much. It did not completely eliminate the problem though. Final thing which solved my problem was fby dave3d - General
If it is any consolation, I also damaged my Arduino by plugging in an endstop plug upside down. It caused a direct short between +ve and earth.by dave3d - General
I have recently made up different coloured ABS juice's. White/black/green/yellow so far. It all dissolved OK but when the ABS reaches saturation point in the acetone, it does leave a gel or paste like lump at the bottom. It is undissolved coloured ABS though not a transparent jelly. I wonder if the pigment has dissolved out of yours first? I am a relative newbie but I have found a big differencby dave3d - General
bobc: a section of t-slot across the top maybe the way to go. I have an account with Mitsumi who can supply the necessary parts. Just leaves the question of relocating the controller electronics. Keeping it built into the printer would be my preference rather than having it in housed in a seperate box with plugs.by dave3d - Extruded Aluminum Frames
nophead: checking into it a bit further, yes it seems that sugar soap means different things depending on where in the world you are. For example it can contain tri sodium phosphate in the states or be based on soda ash (washing soda) in europe. I was thinking specifically about Mangers sugar soap in the UK. I am from the chemical industry and may have picked this up from a commercial recipe. Iby dave3d - General
Hi Elvira, I think are you talking about two direct drive extruders which are a bit lighter. Two Wade extruders would be heavier. Running at 200% feed rate with two Wade/ Nema 17 motors would shake the Ord Bot about I think. The problem with a Bowden setup is where to mount the extruders? Maybe move the electonics to a separate box to make space.by dave3d - Extruded Aluminum Frames
Sugar soap is basically sodium silicate, probably with a surfactant. As mentoned its action would be as a degreasant. I use ABS juice now. All my sticking problems are solved. At least with ABS.by dave3d - General
I have just built an Ord Bot Hadron which I got from ATI. Had it shipped from the US to the UK. I am a newbie (or was) and I spent about 50 hours putting it together. This included the mechanical build and wiring the electronics. There was no pre assembly at all, just a box of bits without any instructions. I damaged the Arduino and Ramps boards by wrongly connecting the end stops. I had to replby dave3d - Extruded Aluminum Frames
Misumi (Europe) have an extensive range of profiles and fittings. I have used them and I am in the UK. There is no minimum order and shipping is reasonable. They do not supply to individuals so you will need to open a company account.by dave3d - Extruded Aluminum Frames
It is best to use the thin metal cutting disks designed for stainless steel to cut through aluminium. They are cheap and readily available and slice through like butter. I got this tip from a professional sheet metal worker. Clamp an angle grinder in the add on stand that converts it into a chop saw for perfect angles. Ordering stuff through Mitsumi is easiest though. Their standard cuts are vby dave3d - Extruded Aluminum Frames
