Looks like I either fried the arduino or the ramps board or both. I bought some pre wired end stops, they have some strange smd leds on them as well that light up when the end stop is wired properly, however the firmware still would not home, which lead me to switch the wiring. Looks like I made a huge mistake. At this point the lcd lights up but no text and the ramps microflashes one of the greeby jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
Also forgot to mention something else regarding the spider arms, the delta radius is 205mm as per the calculations on I should be using 335mm arms instead of the 250mm arms, I can see why as the size has really diminished as far as build surface is concerned. Any input on the arm length?by jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
Well I updated my project log. Here is the result so far. If you wish to see the nitty gritty go to the blog.by jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
In the interest of maintaining a build log I decided to self host a small blog about my printer build. You are welcome to check it out, it is still in its infancy. Here is the link as I do not plan on posting this log on multiple forums and its easier to maintain on a blog. I have no adds nor do I want any unwanted attention. However if you have any cunstructive criticism please do share it hereby jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
Quote3DRapidClone From the funnel down the tube, there is no die, its just the plastic itself going with gravity, then the auger bit will drive it to extrude. You are going to gravity feed molten plastic? Or are you going to gravity feed pellets? First option wont work at all, second option will work intermittently if that.by jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
Even abs would not be a good material to use in a heated build chamber. It will deform or become brittle. Look into light metal fab for the parts and high temp grease. If designed properly you can use 3mm alu plate to fab the parts.by jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
Well, this is a project for me. If I end up failing, it is still fine as I will have gained experience on the way. It is quite possible that this will fail for the reasons you mentioned, however there is a possibility of overcoming those limitations. Using metal parts will not necessarily add weight to the moving mass. I am in the process of building a rostock at this point. When I finally get iby jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
Quotejaydmdigital You seem pretty sure it'll all work out....if you are using any other experience as a basis for your optimism you are going to get a rude awakening. Please do blog your progress, you have ideas that will be interesting to see the results of. We should all be able to learn something. Honestly, I am thinking out loud at this point. I am sure some ideas will work, others wont. Asby jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
Ended up buying the mechanical ones, Simply because they come with wires, cutting down on the soldering. Speaking of which I need to source some connectors for my motors. Probably scrounge up some or look at radio shack as I don't plan on waiting two weeks for connectors.by jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
I Started receiving my parts. Got the rod and the arduino/ramps1.4/polulu driver & lcd screen. Should be getting the plastic parts either today or tomorrow. Hopefully I get my bearings as well. Now I have to order the end-stops. ANy recomandations? I was looking at these so far. Any recomandations? I was thinking of using the mechanical ones with the metal part removed. Ah, that makes sense there. I am trying to build a platform that is stable enough to stand on, without the smooth rods attached. Torsional strength is where I personally think most of these printers lack. IMHO the smooth rod should only be a carrier and not a support structure, I realize this is going against the design goal to have as few parts as possible, however I think its a necessary evil.by jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
QuoteVinculum Agreed. I understand the ambition and can only say wow! But I think that you will create more problems than solve any. Delta's are great for speed and high acceleration. By going all metal you loose all those qualities. And chains instead of belts? Shivers down my spine. Chains are way more clunky, heavy and are very bad for tight corners which you need (2 180 degree turns above andby jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
QuoteDreamKnights I believe the first image is the standard design of the Rostock printer. I did my research last month and I have finished building my Delta printer, now I am fine tuning my configurations. My design uses: Ramps 1.4 Arduino Mega 2560 Nema 17 steppers (6 pins but I only use 4 pins) Reprap Discount Full Graphics Smart Controller (SD card slot not working on Marlin yet, but I lovby jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
Quotepangkahang beside the plastic parts, is there anything you need to source? And where a you located? I managed to find the rest of the parts. I just bought a rostock pla set from e-bay. The reason I want to go rostock is because I believe its a superior design to kessel for my heated chamber build. The design of the kessel is much more prone to heat propagation than rostock, steel vs alu raiby jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
I have been looking for someone to sell me the printed parts for a rostock kit. I Bought a set on e-bay and the seller does not answer any messages or respond at all. Its been 7 days so far. So in the spirit of getting things done, I am looking at alternative suppliers. And cannot seem to find anyone who has them in stock. Ideally I am looking for ABS printed parts. However I can do pla as well.by jaguarking11 - Delta Machines

Hello Guys; First time builder, and I am slowly gathering parts for a rostock build. I still have yet to purchase some of the parts. I gather I need NEMA17 motors with 5mm shafts. With that being said, I have seen nema17 motors in varying sizes, from 34mm to 40mm. Varying price as well, from 5usd to 50usd per piece. Any recommendations for a cheap source of parts? I have about 190usd in parts oby jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
Quotepamalofeev I also interested in reviews of Chinese sets, there are some absolutely fantastic prices from sellers with high ratings! For example here ! Who can say something about them? jaguarking11, this will help. That is certainly a good price for those parts. Any similar sources for the motors? Or any relevant parts?by jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
I am looking at building a rostock Style printer. However I keep searching and cannot find a definitive answer to the burning question of what are the actual dimensions of the body of the printer. I keep finding drawings but no dimensions are present or at least the geometry for them. This would be my first 3d printer and have decided to take the hard path and build it from scratch and really leaby jaguarking11 - Delta Machines
