Would it possible for someone who has a procedure that works to document it, step by step and put it on the RepRap site as part of the software install pages. The referenced forum entry makes little sense to me I am afraid.by davidgoodenough - RepRap Host
I also realise that I can do it using File/Sketchbook/Open, but I get exactly the same error. As far as I know I am using the latest (well I am using Arduino_11 not 12) versions of the three packages (arguino, firmware and host). Davidby davidgoodenough - RepRap Host
I have obviously missed something basic, so please humour me. I have now got the hardware ready for testing. I have tested the individual parts, now to load the firmware and run the reprap host software. I have downloaded the Arduino IDE, the reprap arduino firmware, and the reprap host software. The IDE works (I used it when testing the individual boards) and I have unpacked the firmware iby davidgoodenough - RepRap Host
Just a thought on the breakout board, and the need or otherwise for one on the Zarduino. RS Components do .1" screw terminals (RS part number 220-4355 for a 10 way), so you could have the same screw terminal interface that you have on the breakout board on the same circuit board, just by substituting these for the patchboard pins on the edges of the board. I am sure others make similar connectoby davidgoodenough - Controllers
The vertical support just sits on the bench with the unit, its not connected even to the z tensioner - the tensioner just sits on it. Whether it will require fixing is yet to be determined in prolonged use, but in tests is seems to work. As its just a piece of wood it does not really justify a photo - but once we have done some more with it we will probably build a proper support that does connby davidgoodenough - Mechanics
to provide the first layer for the header for the extruder barrel (for the new bits from bytes design). The PTFE tape should allow for the temperature required, and would be easier to produce a uniform wrapped heater than trying to embed it in fire cement. I think I would still use fire cement for the outside (between the heater and the outer copper pipe). Does this seem sensible?by davidgoodenough - Plastic Extruder Working Group
We hit the same problem, but our solution was a bit different. All that is needed is a vertical support (it just needs to rest on it) and it works a treat and then you do not need to over tighten the diagonal ties.by davidgoodenough - Mechanics
Great, that fixed it. Perhaps a note to that effect on the temperature sensor page (i.e. get the Epcos data from the thermistor page for the current RRRF kit) would be nice. Davidby davidgoodenough - Controllers
Does anyone have any plans or photos showing the connection of the extruder to the X assembly, and recommended positions for the electronics?by davidgoodenough - Mechanics
The chips that Dallas produce already have the protocol built into them. There is no local microcontroller per device. Yes we would need to understand the bandwidth, but I do not think that this is going to be a problem at least with current designs.by davidgoodenough - Controllers
Ru, you say that "All the alternatives require one more more additional IO lines per attached device." This is not the case for Dallas 1-wire, all the attached devices hang off a single wire (plus ground), that wire even provides power - but only enough to power the interface chip, not to power things like motors. So one interface pin controls the entire network of sensors and driver.by davidgoodenough - Controllers
Along with the I2C and SPI interfaces, there is also the Dallas (now Maxim) 1-wire which is used extensively in home automation and alarm systems and thus there are many sensors available off the shelf, and even solenoids and motors (or rather interfaces to them). The end of the one wire needs to be terminated properly, but you only need one port on the processor to drive the whole "network" ofby davidgoodenough - Controllers
My point was that I am using the RRRF thermistor, so the default table should be right, and the raw value agrees with the value shown on the monitor image. But I am not getting the right value, and reading the code I do not see how it would get the right value. The picture and the code are not consistant. Part of what I am trying to find out is whether they are supposed to be consistant. Daviby davidgoodenough - Controllers
We are having a little trouble testing the temperature sensor v1.1 The sensor is showing a raw value of about 980 for room temperature, which seems to agree with the value shown on the monitor in the picture to the right of the Try it out section just below the code. The values shown in the monitor convert this to a value of about 20C. But the converted value we get is 0C/32F, which is the oveby davidgoodenough - Controllers
How about a razor blade at right angles to the nozzle, with a solenoid to move it in and out. The blade edge would cut the melted filament, and the the body of the blade would cover the nozzle when closed.by davidgoodenough - Mechanics
I had thought of using the bit of belt that is spare (there is about 15cm of overlap) as the template act as the "female" part of the belt-splicer. So you would end up with three layers of belt between two bits of wood or acetate between the G clamp grips and both the outer layers would be flat. Yes the belt tensioner is part of the BitsFromBytes laser cut parts kit.by davidgoodenough - Mechanics
This refers to the kit supplied from BitsFromBytes with the Laser cut parts. We have reached the stage of assembling the Z-belt, having done the X and Y belts. The X&Y belts did not have to be joined as they are not continuous, but the Z belt is continuous and so needs to be joined. Reading the instructions for the non-laser cut parts I seem to need a belt-splicer, which I think is two biby davidgoodenough - Mechanics
well that turned out to be the problem. Obviously BT does not like RepRap. Davidby davidgoodenough - General
no, nothing arrived at all, BT (for it was a btconnect.com id) does filter out some things it thinks are spam and throws them away, but I have not had problems with registrations before. He is trying a different ID for now (same domain as my registration) that is not on BT to see if that is the problem. Davidby davidgoodenough - General
My son Mark is building a reprap, and wanted to participate in these forums. So he tried to sign up yesterday but has not received the confirmation email. Who do I need to talk to in order to sort this out? Davidby davidgoodenough - General
Good news. I got a reply which reads:- > We can do 2kg coils of ABS, natural colour. > > The price would beby davidgoodenough - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Well I have also found:- They don't list ABS as a format that they sell, but they do talk about it. They do larger reels, but not in 3mm. I have sent them an email to find out whether they can do ABS as well. And we can get it in multiple colours. Davidby davidgoodenough - Plastic Extruder Working Group
No, I am not looking to buy a new one, the point of the message was that there were some of these machines going cheap after a company failed. The questions is who might buy it and run it for the community. Davidby davidgoodenough - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I have just got off the phone from a company that recycles plastics in the UK. They can supply bags (say 25kg) of ABS granules at a price that looks quite good compared to getting the filament from the US and shipping it. Currently natural ABS is aboutby davidgoodenough - Plastic Extruder Working Group
The only possible problem with this is that the latest version is 7.12.4 but the lastest Linux download is 7.8.4. If we are going to use new features, we need to be sure that they are going to be available to Linux users as well.by davidgoodenough - RepRap Host
Some while ago there was discussion of the use of kitchen blenders as the means of reducing things like plastic milk cartons (and I notice that of the ones we get the goats milk ones are HPDE) to chips which can be fed into the extruder. Has anyone done this, and if so what experience is there as to the best kind of blender and blender blade to use to achieve the best results? Davidby davidgoodenough - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Maybe you have already done this - in which case I missed it. Could you layout out your environment (versions, OSs etc), and the problems you are having. Then perhaps we can help. Davidby davidgoodenough - RepRap Host
(see www.via.com.tw/en/initiatives/spearhead/openbook/) and there are designs for the laptop case, I wonder if they are RepRap-able? See also www.viaopenbook.com. I do not know it they are making the boards and other components available as a kit to enthusiasts, but DIY laptops have never really been feasable in part because you could not get the cases - and now we can. That is always assuminby davidgoodenough - General
Eclipse happens to be written in Java, and is therefore started by starting an external JVM. From there on FORGET that JVM. Internally Eclipse runs its own compiler, which can be set to emit code for a variety of java versions. Each project has its own environment, JARs etc are not shared between them unless you explicitly tell it to. If you select the project, and select Build Path from theby davidgoodenough - RepRap Host
Eclipse does not use the normal Java compiler, it has its own. This is why you only need the JRE to run it, not the JDK. You need to add this library to the Build Path on the project.by davidgoodenough - RepRap Host
