Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has already tested a frostruder on a makerbot? We have been using a frostruder inspired design on a Bits form Bytes Rapman for a while to print ceramics (unfoldfab.blogspot.com). I think it will be hard to do the same with a makerbot (or mendel) for the simple reason that the platform with the object moves during printing. Maybe with a slow speed but probably noby unfold - Paste Extrusion Working Group

Hi Wayland and others, we are currently extruding clay and it works pretty well. Hi Sebastien Indeed, got some mails from friends all over that found the boinboing post when reading the morning news. It got repeated at Wired, Makezine, Switched, open3dp, openmaterials ao. Nice. Thanks for setting up a template, a syringe/paste forum could be nice to bundle the work. I will take some time to write up everything after 13th of march. Hey, looks good. I have already tested this design since Bits from Bytes uses this system on their extruders. Only difference is that their PEEK tube is only half length, the other half is aluminum.by unfold - General
copy from unfoldfab The future's here baby! (first successfully printed ceramic vessel) We took some time to play around and get used to the dynamics of the clay print process. It was also time to step up (or down?) the resolution from 1.9 to 0.8 mm using screw-on luer lock tips. We are also now using powder clay that can be mixed in exact quantities instead of moisturizing chunks of clay. Alsoby unfold - Paste Extrusion Working Group

Als je echt veel onderdelen wilt printen is een Rapman van Bits from Bytes wel wat efficiƫnter. Die print toch een stuk sneller en nauwkeuriger.by unfold - Dutch User Group - Archive
Looks like Alibre is not supporting Mesh data in any way. To edit STL you need a mesh modeler. Alibre is pure parametric solid modeler which is something different all together. You will need some sort of reverse engineering soft to convert STL back to nurbs or solids.by unfold - 3D Design tools
When you are looking for this size with this detail i think RepRap is definitely not suitable at the moment. The resolution is one thing but overhangs will be more of a problem and the melting problems with such a small parts. To be fair, even the commercial machine are having a hard time with this type of work. Shapeways recommends a min. feature size of 1-2 mm. Reprap is suitable for 'dollsize'by unfold - Plastic Extruder Working Group

Hi all, Good thread. I am very aware of the problems discussed here and hope this can be structured better towards the future. When I started with RepRap more than a year ago it took me about a month to get al the pieces of the RR puzzle together, digging true the wiki and forum. Very confusing was the official wiki, builder wiki, objects wiki etc (you all know). Also lots of info on the officiaby unfold - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Hi all! Before I dive into this discussion I must note that this discussion itself is already suffering the same symptoms as the topic of it (wiki/website). Namely that the discussion is taking place in different topics and therefore confusing me already! Updates! After a pauze to do some other stuff I actually got back to the reason why I got into RepRap in the first place: printing ceramics. At the moment I have done the first tests using something along the lines of the Makerbot Frostruder MK2 design I have started a blog about the progress at UnfoldFab so there you will get updates about it. Today I also found a very relevant link in a reacby unfold - Paste Extrusion Working Group
Hi Walter, Thanks for the links, forgot somehow to follow my own topic so a bit late. I know the work of Marc Ganter at Open3DP and some others that I should digg up and add to this topic. But Robocasting looks recent because I have been looking around the net for ceramic Rp and never found much close to what I want to do but this looks exactly the same! Hi, Have not followed the whole discussion but what I experience from printing some Mendel parts is that it is much easier to print one Medel part a lot of times than to print a complete set. You need to tweak some settings for each part, once you have that you can print lots of copies. So it would be interesting to work together on a local scale and divide the parts and than sell the complete seby unfold - General

Hi James, i have been following this with great interest, something along this lines is exactly what skeinforge needs. I had been talking about something similar a while ago, also taking cues from 2d printers (alignment wizard etc) but being no programmer I couldn't do anything with it So looking forward to the beta! there is a discussion about starting a kickstarter project: Get funds to buy a few makerbots or BfB machines and start a production run. Good idea in my opinion. I think a machine from BfB with the proper Gcode can print more items in the same time because of the larger printbed. There is probably much more interesting things to be learned from starting production with using our own technology thby unfold - Wanted
Trying the challenge? Support is not that experimental, its just not the best solution for support, we would need another material for a good solution. Give it a try, you will get a lot of strings so its a good advice to stay near to remove some o that during printing.by unfold - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
