OK,
It has finally sunk in !!
I can not "go into" the firmware loaded on the Ardunio board (RAMPS) and edit what is already on there, I have to get the original source code, edit that and then "upload" it to the Ardunio (RAMPS)?

Firmware - Marlin
I have a P3Steel from HTA3D, "•Mega 2560 R3 (Compatible) 16u2"
I have downloaded Arduino IDE and installed on my PC, connected the printer to the PC Via USB, it shows up in the PC's device manager under com ports as "Arduino 2560 on COM x"
In IDE I choose Arduino Mega 2560/ or Mega from the drop down menu,, I then choose the correct com port.
Then what? I don't see anything on the IDE interface

I have downloaded Pronterface (Printrun),, but totally lost on how to install it,, just can seam to find the install fill ?
Thanks,

OK,
I was thinking the editor could edit the Marlin firmware "ON" the Ramps board. As in hook up the ramp via USB cable, fire up the editor on the PC, go in change some settings and save it.
But what I am understanding is I can NOT retrieve what is on the RAMPS,, can only upload a "new edited" copy of the firmware to it.
Problem is, My "Kit" can from the supplier with all the parameters set up, I

OK,
I am up to 8m on the print, so far so good. (to the point where the front legs hook to the body)
I broke the #1 rule and changed a bunch of things at once.
brought nozzle to 215c
remounted and leveled the MK3 bed (this should not have affected the 10, 11, 12 layer that was lifting before)
set the build fan to 50% (was 100%)
Dropped the build speed to 20.

Printing directly on the MK3 Alum bed (no glass),

I am using Sunlu 1.75 PLA.
I have leveled the bed with a feeler gauge (.008" gap)
When it gets to the 10-12 layer and starts "building" the leg on the left foot, it knocks it loose, every time, same foot.
The "build" fan comes on around the 2-3rd layer.
When I go to remove the rest of the frog, it is stuck quite well to the bed.
Nozzle is at 195c.

finally at the point of 1st print with P3Steel.
1.75 PLA printing the "Tree Frog"
Some where between the 10-12 layer, the front left leg comes loose from the bed everytime (5 times)
I am using a MK3 Alum bed. I have tried glue stick, hair spray, blue tape, blue tape with glue stick.
Tried bed at 40c, 50c, 60c.
any idea's ?

I am running a separate 24v power supply with a Solid State relay for the Heat Bed.
Both power supplies are generic LED PS.

Please lord let there be a simple way to edit the firmware,,
I just spent 3 hours, loading and reloading Arduino,,, no luck.
Program loads,, then what??? I have followed every tutural on the web,, they assume WAY to much knowledge on my part.
I was NEVER able to find my printer through the Arduino program,,
Is there an easy way to edit the Marlin firmware??

OK,
Like I said,, I am really dumb.
I need to edit the config h file,, I am getting thermal runaway error, so I need to up the variable from 2-4.
I installed the Arduino software, hooked my printer up via USB,,,,,, And ??
all the "guides for dummies" go right into editing,, I have NO idea where the config H file is???
Is there a step by step guide ??
I mean, "STEP BY STEP"
Thanks,

Soo, finally finished my P3Steel,,, and am lost.
I downloaded some sample "objects" they are STL files.
Reading up, an STL file is what a 3D printer needs.
I unzip and place my file on an SD card, the Ramps/Marlin/LCD sees the card, but not the "frog" file,, just "Dsystem volume info" which does nothing??
What am I doing wrong?
Also, will the STL print file set the heta (Bed, nozzle)? or do I ma

Anyone have any pictures of a "clean" mounting of 2 power supplies on a P3Steel frame?

P3Steel with Ramps1.4, MK3 bed, 1 extruder.
Having trouble finding room to mount 2 power supplies on a P3 frame,, and want to run my MK3 bed on 24v.
Do they make a duel power supply 12v and 24v with enough to run a 3d printer?
could I get a 24v 30amp and use a LARGE 12 regulator to run Ramps ?
How are other handling this with 24v beds ?

I ordered 4 countersunk "Metric socket flat head" machine screws, I will countersink the heatbed and swap them out, quickest solution till I come upto speed with firmware end.
My MK3 heat bed was not heating up, it only has .4 ohm across the 12v hookup, new heatbed and mosfet on the way.

DJ,
Thanks for taking the time to respond, I have been any from small computers for many years (RCA 1802)
I am starting to grasp the layers of control over these small 3D printers (Ramps/Marlin)
My particular P3Steel has its X carriage end stop about 3/4" off the left side of the bed (by design, cant really move it)
The Y end stop does not have adjustment and puts the front edge of the bed about

I have finished assembling my 1st 3D printer, A P3Steel with Ramps 1.4/Marlin/Full Smart LCD
I am well versed in electronics and have acquired a vague understanding of the workings.but am lost of a few things.
I have not found a good clear guide to setting up a 3D printer with my firmware/software/LCD
What is "home" ?? is it when all 3 axis or against the endstops? or is it when the nozzle is a

Here is a quick video of it,
basically anytime the axis's are all at zero, then the printer moves to the bed,, it hits the bed leveling bolt.
Any ideas??

Slooowly figuring this out.
(P3Steel, Ramps 1.4/Marlin/LCD controller)
When the coming from the home position, the extruder nozzle hits the front left bed leveling bolt,, any way to stop this ??

I am completing my P3 steel build (1st printer build)
I have a Ramp 1.4/Marlin with the full size LCD.
Everything powers up fine and I can make things move with the commands in the menu/rotary knob,, but that's were it ends.
I have NO idea what to do next, I have searched out on the net and found no guide that assumes I know nothing
When I nit the "home command" the X carriage goes all the way

RAMPS Electronics
very new to 3D printing and just completing a P3Steel build.
I would like to upgrade the extruder, it is currently a direct drive, printed parts extruder.
I don't want to "tinker" with, or "modify", etc the extruder/hot end, I would prefer to purchase one that is all metal and is ready to go (mount, fans, etc).
Why is a good quality geared all metal extruder to use with PLA, ABS, flex? Fans, fan

An all metal X carriage would interest me.
Now there is probably more of a market for "parts" and assemblies, as opposed to complete printers.

Srek,
The 24v PS would be only used to power the Heated Bed,
I would retain the PS that came with my P3steel kit, and add a solid state relay and 24v PS just for the Heated Bed, or that was my plan ?

Wrapping up my P3Steel build (1st 3D printer), I will be printing ABS.
I have decided to run a separate PS for the MK3 heatbed.
.
Is there any advantage to going 24v over 12v ?
What is the min power requirements at each voltage? (I checked around and can not find it)
Solid state or mech relay ?
Many thanks,

Building a P3Steel,
Getting ready to set the Z axis threaded rods and tighten them in the flex coupler of the Z motors.
What is the best way to "level" the whole X axis assembly in relation to the rest of the printer?
Thanks,
