Just as an FYI on this build, I did run across something during the redesign that I hadn't noticed before as I hadn't gotten very far with this system. If you follow the build plans they provide, the mounting point for the mechanical end stop for the Z-Axis will stop the carriage as it is moving in the -Z direction, a full inch above the print bed.... WTF?!?!?!?! I looked at it and scratched myby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Wampablo, I both agree and disagree. From things I have read, the quality control on this system might be more than a bit lacking, some people get a good unit, others are riddled with problems. For a beginner, it's a decent enough starting point under optimal conditions, but IF you get a bad unit like I did, an inexperienced beginner is going to be in over his head without a lot of help. Just a quick follow up....... If you want to do a large print area i3, but maybe you would prefer a nice borosilicate bed instead of aluminum, a vendor on Amazon called reprap champion has the 300 x 200 heat element with a borosilicate bed instead of aluminum for 44.99by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Thingiverse has multiple options for this. Single and dual extruder options.by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
As with any product, not 100% of the products sold are going to be 100% perfect. I am pretty sure everyone has urchased something, and then had to take it back to the store because it was defective, it happens. What matters is how the dealer handles issues when they arise. Top notch customer support will always win a customers return business. In my case, clearly I bought a unit that somehow faby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
So as the original Poster here, I thought I'd go into some details to look out for when buying this printer. It's been almost a year now since I bought this POS, and I've only just picked up on it again. Since my last post, I've managed to identify numerous issues with the printer that I didn't catch before, and with experience I've learned a lot about how truly bad this particular unit shipped wby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Yeah, I had originally looked at thingiverse for reprinting the original parts with 'upgraded' parts, but decided to pass on that when I saw an all aluminum carriage advertised for sale on a couple of websites. In fact, I did print an upgraded i3 X-carriage set from thingiverse, and I was just going to repair this and then get rid of it, but I thought I might just try to beef it up and see if I cby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Doing a rebuild, looking for an all Aluminum X-Carriage set up with ends. I've seen pics on Google, but they all seem to be from China. Anywhere in the US to source this? I'm rebuilding a very defective Electron i3. I'd also be interested if anyone knows of a T-Slot aluminum frame to replace the cheap plastic junk this thing shipped with. After all the hassle I went through with this junk frby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Upgrades in progress on this Turkey...... So I went back to this after leaving for awhile, and while installing the new motors, I noticed something that I hadn't before, and I'm going to blame first timer syndrome for missing it. During the motor upgrade, I noticed something. THe Z Axis rod on the right side, if I put it in the nut at the top of the frame, the rod would sit there and spin itselfby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Quotewampablo hope fully ill be making more upgrades to it in the future ie better quality motors and a steel or aluminium frame amongst other things. Any thoughts on motors? I've been wondering about motor types. One of the suspects is that I have at least one bad motor, possibly other issues. When I tried to find the same motor, it had crap reviews on Amazon. 1 star. Just curious...... as I am looking at replacing parts etc. I found an MKS v1.3 motherboard for 38.00, the kit came originally with an MKS 1.2. Has anyone here upgraded to the 1.3 board, and if so any comments on it?by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
UGH..... Okay, did not see the potentiometers on the motherboard, I really didn't pay that close attention to it. So I'll give it a look next time I'm home. For that matter, I don't recall seeing anything on the motherboard that identifies who made it in case I need to replace it...... I guess I'll have to take it apart and do a detailed examination, I really just thought it was going to be a stby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Ok, so I am back to working on this piece of junk after letting it sit for a couple months...... So I completed assembly, I was at testing stage. trying to Zero out the print head. X-Axis was moving back and forth, but z-axis jammed. The Z-axis started to move, but then one side jammed, and the motor stuttered, I mentioned this in a previous post. I downloaded the auto leveling version off the internet.by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
ANother tip for people....never buy the 60.00 self leveling and height detection add on. It's a 5.00 sensor they send you. The software is a free download from Marlin. I could have saved even more if I had known in advance.by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
The downside is that in a hit and miss of swapping out parts, with the extra money spent, I could have gotten a working printer from a reliable vendor and not had to deal with the problems. Saving a few dollars was not worth the troubles.by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
So this has come to a bad end. After completing everything, the printer didn't work. When I tried to set coordinates for home etc. for the printer, it appears not all the motors operated properly. z axis jammed everytime, causing the motor to stutter and I had to unplug it. The rip off outfit I purchased it from denies I ever contacted them regarding issues, and has accussed me of mail fraud wby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
More or less. Of course I'd assume youd want a wider unit as well, to make a larger area. This would only give you long thin print areas. Something like the Lulzbot Taz 5, which has a 12"x12"x12" print area would be more practical I'd think.by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
225mm x 290mm would be pretty much the max with the kit, just based on the frame limitations. It would be physically impossible to go larger without doing a custom construction from the ground up.by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Quoteallibgbg Yes I m already glad having found this topic So, I dont understand.. larger printing area is just about making the bed bigger ? What about the electronic config ? I mean, does the brain not need to know he now have a bigger space to moove the extruder into ? You configure it in the software. You suplly the dimensions of the print area, pretty simple.by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
definitely listen to dburas here...... I found a lot of people on forums with similar complaints to mine. I suspect they build these as needed, and if they rush, parts don't fit. And as people have said, if you have a problem, don't count on help. The minute I asked for replacement parts or refund of defective items, they stopped responding completely, then claim I never contacted them. You caby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
So I have a printer kit, I'm told is the same kit as the Migbot with a different name. I just completed the physical build, printer turns on, LCD displays, nothing caught fire!! yay! So I have software that I guess needs to be installed before I do anything further...... Marlin firmware with large print and auto level support Drivers CDM 2.xx After doing a search, I couldn't actually findby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Thanks for the robot shop link, I'll check them out. Sounds like they have other interesting things I might be interested in. As for the ordeal I went with at 3D Printers online, technically, the kit only cost me 115.00, plus what I have spent on replacement parts. Several of those parts I would have purchased as upgrades anyway, like the all aluminum extruder carriage, and the borosilicate prinby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Interesting follow up on this, just to show how disreputable 3dprintersonlinestore.com is, this is their response to my dispute....... ."--I have no record of any emails from Mr. Rogers for help or replacement parts for the printer kit. The upgrades are priced to cover materials and repackaging of kits - the auto-leveling upgrade is more than just a sensor - there is no mention of any additionaby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
So I don't know if I should continue this here, or go to the Migbot threads or whatever..... Build is done, everything works. I'll still have some modifications to do to fix their crap, but I can do that later. I found a kit for the large bed upgrade already to go which I'll add later. Anyway, now I am curious about software upgrades. The github page for this printer has CUDA (won't be using),by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Due to all the hassles and additional costs, as well as outright gouging on the upgrades without really telling you what they were for I've opened a dispute with Paypal on this.by FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
QuotedburasSo for the upgrade to the larger bed, they just sent you a longer aluminum bed but not a larger carriage or heat pad ?? So that's what they charged $60 for ?? WOW, never again 3dprintersonlinestore. that is exactly correct. They sent the same carriage and heat pad as if it had been the so called standard printer. For 60.00, they supplied a 225mm x 290mm piece of aluminum, that hadby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Based on pics I've seen online and videos, it appears that the heat bed is generally the same size as the printing bed, be it aluminum or borosilicate. I purchased the 'large print area' upgrade when I bought this Electron, and the heat element supplied is the same width, but distinctly shorter length than the Aluminum bed supplied. Am I going to need to purchase a new heating element to matchby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
Quoterowdyjoe Just ordered the Electron 3D from 3Dprinter online (no upgrades) and looking forward to the challenge of making it work. Thanks for the info and wisdom you folks share here. I'm sure I'll find it very useful as I am brand new to 3D printing. With all the headaches I've had with 3dprinter online I'll never deal with them again. I've had to buy way too many parts to replace stuff tby FirstAvenger - Prusa i3 and variants
So today was the big day. After checking and rechecking every connetion, looked at the instructions over and over, I said what the hell..... and plugged it in. It started up, LCD came on, LED's on motherboard lit up, Printer ready to receive programming. Yay!!! BUT.......... The round fan on the extruder that cools the hot end nozzle is dead. Defective.
