Looks like Windows 10 uses ".3mf" ( ) files for 3d objects. If you're a Linux user who wants to print 3d objects, this simple command-line utility ( ) will convert a ".3mf" file into an stl file which you can feed to your printer. I hope someone else finds this useful.by lemgandi - 3D Design tools
Heh! You were mostly right, but the devil was in the details. The heater and tube were perfectly healthy. The real trouble turned out to be that the filament driver gear was mounted about 1.5 mm too far back on the stepper motor shaft, so it didn't bear fully on the filament. It was transferring enough force to push the filament through without the nozzle, but not enough to actually give a consby lemgandi - Prusa i3 and variants
I am unable to print from my Folgertech 2020 Prusa Mendel right now because not enough plastic is coming out of my (stock Folgertech) extruder. I'm printing in ABS at 240 degrees using Repetier Host from a linux box. This machine has printed fine in the past but I left it for a while to work on other things. The symptom appears to be skipped steps on the extruder motor. When I disconnect theby lemgandi - Prusa i3 and variants
Wow that is pretty nice. I've been trying to get a good 3d benchy out of natural ABS, but so far they're pretty rough. I'm still tweaking my parameters. Went to a printer meet-up not long ago and watched someone's Lulzbot Mini print out a beautiful one with almost no adjustment. OTOH, that machine costs about 4X the Folgertech kit and you don't get the entertainment of making it work. Did youby lemgandi - Prusa i3 and variants
Ooh, added to my List of Things to Think About. Most of the pictures of Prusa Mendels I've seen use medium sized binder clips to hold down the plate. The trouble with those is that it's easy for the printhead to run into them, moving everything out of alignment and possibly inflicting damage as well.by lemgandi - Prusa i3 and variants

Quotepizzachef Hey guys, I appreciate all the good info in this enormous thread. I've got my printer built and am going through calibration now. I used therippa's firmware, but had the following error messages when it was compiling the sketch: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arduino: 1.6.8by lemgandi - Prusa i3 and variants
This forum has been extraordinarily good to me, although I haven't contributed a lot to it. Therippa's Marlin firmware configured for the Folgertech Prusa I3 was really good -- it saved me much annoying software wrangling in getting Things Running. Her name is now Cora. This was printed in natural-color ABS on window glass, with a generous helping of Printer Juice (ABS dissolved in acetone) sby lemgandi - Prusa i3 and variants
Holy Cow. This thread is now 85 pages long. Perhaps it's time to make it into a wiki or an email list? I'm trying to keep up as I build my FolgerTech, but this is really unwieldy.by lemgandi - Prusa i3 and variants
Just got a FolgerTech 2020 i3 kit and sorted the screws and small hardware last night. I have a bunch of 25mm M3 bolts which I don't see on the list stuck to the outside of the hardware pack. Everything else seems accounted for, with extras even. I am assuming I'll use these somewhere? This is my second run at a 3d printer kit -- I already own a Cupcake, but she and I are a little on the outs aby lemgandi - Prusa i3 and variants
