Hey pmoran, I had a DEF error the other day. The reason was when I was debugging the Melzi I had disconnected the RTDs from the board. I'd try turning it off and checking those connections. If it helps, the error dec is a decoupling error. Basically it means your temperature sensor has stayed too far from the setpoint and the printer is programmed to shut off the heaters in response. I think thisby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
Hey Phisik, I thought there might be a power issue, like a drop or something when the stepper motors came on. So I disconnected the board from everything, removed the jumper so I could fire it up from the laptop's power supply. As soon as I gave the G command, I had the same issue. To me, that points to an issue with the board itself. I gave the -e option a go, as well as erase. Thing is when I jby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
QuotePrice00 I had a problem with updating the melzi with the baud rate. I ended up using 115200. I had to flash the bootloader first though as the Chinese supplier only loaded the 8MHz one on. I used the USBasp thing from hobbyking as listed by ownst. QuotePhisik I gave your suggestions a go. They seem to work okay. My Melzi board fires up, even loads the firmware and can accept some commanby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
Sure are good looking prints Phisik. I gave the new firmware a go. Worked pretty well there for a bit, so thanks for writing up that tutorial stuff. I ran into problems though because the Z homing was travelling in the wrong direction. So I tried to fix that and I must've done something catastrophically wrong because now it won't connect to the computer. I can flash new firmware, even update theby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
Hey phisik, how do you find Marlin compares to repetier. I was thinking of swapping over to see how it went. Do you know of any tutorial for uploading HEX files? I've only ever uploaded from the arduino IDE. Cheers.by JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
I had a similar issue with the SD card. It ended up just being that one of the pins wasn't making contact. I think phisik's idea is the way to go because soldering a new SD reader on would be a pain.by JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
No issue, file works fine. Have you got the .ino file as well? I put a capacitive sensor on my printer and would like to check some of the settings are correct. Thanksby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
Thanks Osnwt for the information. It's very useful. Is there any chance you could put your firmware in a google drive. I wouldn't mind uploading it onto my printer and seeing if it performs better.by JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
No worries. I'll be back at the factory where the printer is in a few days and I will have a look then. The parts of the code about the thermistors I left as is, so there's a fair chance they're not correct. I had noticed some strange behaviour with the prints, they didn't seem to be sticking down right. I'm printing with PLA, but I thought it might be an under extrusion issue. Perhaps I can takeby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
Just to let everyone know I got this thing to work. Here’s what I did, what I learnt and things I think will help you out to know if you’re struggling. Hardware: Relatively easy, I used at LJ18A3-8-Z/BX proximity sensor. All that was required here was removing the existing Z- end stop, and wiring this up in its place. The Melzi board has a + - and Signal pin for each end stop. In this case, browby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
Cheers man, I figured out the EEPROM stuff with a little help from dSol's forum link from the other day. Can't see I've observed mine hanging at all. Mine completes the auto level and everything however does something strange. It seems to auto level okay, but it "forgets" it's Z0 setting. As it goes to 3D print it immediately jumps up about 8mm off the bed and prints too high. Bloody frustrating.by JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
Hi guys, Good news, dsol you were right! the baud rate of the printer and the settings in repetier host were different. I don't know why, but it seems to work alright. Repetier Host is set at 500,000 whereas the printer is set at 256,000. I've managed to flash some firmware and the printer menus and everything work a lot quicker. The firmware also has an autolevelling feature. Using some of theby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
Hi, thanks dSol for responding. I got the firmware to compile okay using Arduino v1.0.5 r2, however, I've hit another snag with the updating the firmware. Just to confirm, I've got a board that's got Melzi v_3B written on it. There a quartz crystal on the board with 16 MHz written on it, but I want to make sure. Should I be uploading using the ATMega1284P (16MHz) board. I've used the 8MHz and itby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me. Big thanks to all the contributors of this thread. You've been a big help to me as I'm tying to get the auto-leveling working for the P802M Zonestar 3D printer. I've downloaded the firmware from the Google Drive link, posted in this thread. When I go to compile the code in Arduino 1.6.6, I get an error message on the #define SDSS line, something aboutby JimsFlight - Prusa i3 and variants
