Quotetjnamtiw You sound a lot like me. My 'go to' printer is still the 2020 i3 because it just keeps going! I have the FT5 to with the BLTOUCH, E3D, and the Titan. It also runs well but I've used it mainly to run parts that I need multiples of for orders. I made a few things that required the height given by the FT5 but mostly groups of parts. The one advantage I like with the RC8 is that itby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants
Quotetjnamtiw Quotewild.bill Quotecrumb4life I would suggest using the beta firmware located here Start with that. What will the beta software do for you that you don't get in the original software? I still do manual leveling and am getting good prints - so what will I gain? If it's running good, don't screw with it!!!! When you decide to put a BLTOUCH on it, Marlin 1.1.0 RC8 works greatby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants

Quotetjnamtiw Quoteanimoose > BTW, this thread is dying. Dying after 174 pages doesn't seem so bad. This must be one of the longest threads on the forum, and it's been amazingly helpful and constructive throughout. I can't speak for anyone else, but for me the FT 2020 was a stepping stone. I learned a ton about building, using and modifying 3D printers from it, and then eventually moved on tby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants
I found something interesting tonight. The room that I print in is on the cool side and I have noticed that it takes quite a while to get the bed hot. I am printing with ABS so I want to get the bed nice and hot before it starts to print and what I found is that after I get above 80C if the fan goes on in the power supply the bed temp dropped almost a degree and as soon as the fan went off theby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants
That is the fan ( "Folger i3 2020 Print Cooling Fan Assembly") that I printed and it really helped make a better benchy. my stack had no issues when using the fan on short layer print times. I have gotten to the point where I really like the prints its making. My biggest issue now is I don't like the effect glue stick makes on the print surface so I am going to get some hair spray today and seeby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants
Quoteflatlander I purchased borosilicate; at least that's what the seller sold it as, ha, ha, ha. If I had glass cutting skills... My reduced my bed size in configuration.h. I chose expedience over elegance. Sonny's magnetic setup is way good: ... Actually cutting glass is real easy, I learned how when I was doing picture framing. To address the heat problem when I had a short time on layers I found a fan that will mount on the MK9 so I printed and installed it. I seems do help. I addressed another small problem where the hot end would sometimes hit one of the clips holding the glass down. I cut a new piece of glass that was 8 1/2" x 8" so it would hang over the sides of the hot plate. Now I can get the clips a lot furtheby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants
I got the printer going a few day's ago after printing the cube's to calibrate I printed the brackets to hold the LCD. Then I decided to print Benchy to see how that worked. Most of it printed well with a few spots that looked like it was under extruded and figured it was cheap filiment because most was OK, but when I got to the stack on top the layers print very quickly and didn't leave enougby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants
I had the day off today so finally had some time for the printer. I started by cutting some glass for the print bed and then leveled the bed. So now I am finally ready to see if it will print, so I started with the 1CM calibration cube. I really wanted to see if it would print because while setting the the end stops I found that on the Y access when I plugged it into the controller I was offsetby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants
I have been slow at build the printer because I have to many things going on. I't just finishing up the electronics hook up. I found the instruction for building the frame to be poor. I didn't have any problems building it, but it could have been a lot easier. There were a few places where I felt they were just wrong but the biggest issue is the order that things were installed. QuoteCyril Going through the instructions I notice some stuff: ...... Same thing with Aluminum heat bed plate , I think we can attach the LM8UU Bearings under the place and them just slide the all thing when we are attaching the rails Those are tiny things but I think this could make it easier and quicker. Quotediegzumillo Hi all. I read a few pages and did a few forum searches (would really help to search inside specific topics) but I can't find if this has been asked before. I just finished assembling the basic structure (next step would be soldering the heated bed) and I'm feeling a little unsure about the position of the SK8s specifically. The rods and aluminum bed are already in place, shouldby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants
It's time for the fun to begin and off to a good start - I ordered the printer, lcd, fan's, and filament on Sunday night. It was shipped on Monday and delivered today (Tuesday) so I guess there is no backlog of orders. I am about to go and open the boxes and get things started. I expect to do a lot of reading for the next few day. Billby wild.bill - Prusa i3 and variants
