I don't think you should do that. The chassis would have to be completely rebuilt. Better off building an extruded aluminum chassis.by elwood127 - Reprappers
We're getting off topic. Z couldn't be more wrong. These cheap little printers are awesome. Complete pain to get built with the crappy instructions but for the price and some reading "here" you can print beautiful parts. Perfect 3d printing learning tool. Order one today!by elwood127 - Prusa i3 and variants
The fan has to point to the top where the filament enters the extruder to cool the rising heat. Not sure what you guys using Bowdens do for this. Mine is open to the air. Haven't had a clog since installing fan.by elwood127 - Reprappers
Hey all, how do I insert pictures that automatically show in a post without having to click "Open"? I see a "Create Link In Message" option, is that it? Thanks.by elwood127 - General
I got my Upper and Lower build plates back from a Salt Lake sheet metal shop. Cut beautifully from 6061 T6 aluminum @ .125 thick. Final surface of 8.5 x 9.0 inches. Increased build area to 210 x 220 mm. The nylock self clinching nuts for the adjusters and belt clip work perfectly. Leveling screws stay completely tight opposed to the cheesy wingnuts that came with the kit. The (4th) linear bearingby elwood127 - Reprappers
Get the free version of SOLIDVIEW. It's great for checking STL files. Parts show pink and open areas show yellow. Very usefull.by elwood127 - Reprappers
Wow, I'll have to check it out. Thanks.by elwood127 - General
Look at Rhino3d.com. If you are a teacher or student it's all but free. Wonderfull program.by elwood127 - General
One other note, I got larger springs from MCmaster-Carr part # 1986K93 ( .375 OD x .500 long x .035 wire w/ 5 coils ). Slightly bigger to help with stability. $5.00 for six springs.by elwood127 - Reprappers
Hey all, if you have one of these plexiglass framed printers you know what a lousy piece of design the build plate is and how difficult it is to keep things level. I redesigned the whole affair enlarged to utilize PEM-NUTS with nylon inserts for the leveling screws and belt attachment bracket. Attached are JPEGS of the 3d top and bottom view along with dimensioned drawings for the (2) plates. Inby elwood127 - Reprappers
I haven't seen any mention of Rhino here so here goes. I've been using it for years mainly doing mechanical design and was able totreach myself the basics in a summer with no previous 3d experience. It's also used for jewelry design, boat design and you may have seen it used for the city-scapes in Spiderman. Very user friendly. The sales site has "Commercial" and "Student and Teacher" pricing asby elwood127 - 3D Design tools
You may want to add a fan where filament enters extruder. Keeps filament from bunching up in the "cool" zone.by elwood127 - Reprappers
Hey W, I have a complete set of STL's that came with my printer. Of course in true China fashion they are not exact parts that came with my printer but the X Axis motor holder and Idler are there. I had the same problem. The only parts printed in the kit were crap. You are welcome to them. takes about 4 emails to send them all. Brian. rb3d@msn.co&by elwood127 - Reprappers
Hey Hathalud, this is all that holds in the x axis rods if yours is the same as my printer. See Pic.by elwood127 - Prusa i3 and variants
I print a 10mm Brim and position my parts so that I can use clamps to grab the edge. This is a little dicey because the clamps can interfear with the movement of the bed. Need to find some long nosed thin tweeser type clamps.by elwood127 - General
I bought one of Ali's plexiglass Prusa i3's. It was a challenge getting through the rediculous instructions. Thanks to this site I made it work. But, you can expect to spend 20 or 30 (weeks) dialing everything in but it's worth the effort. Read, read, read. After awile you can do this. See pic. Good luck.by elwood127 - General
I use Repetier and had to change my "Baud Rate" to 115200 in the port settings before my computer would see it. Good luck.by elwood127 - General
I get this also but it is always on one side or the other of a hole. It's always in an area that it comes back to that it skipped ealier in the print. It's as if the head rises to get to the area and then drops to a different height. Could it just be slop? We're only talking a hair difference in smoothness.by elwood127 - Reprappers
Hey all, here is a link to a Globalspec (now IHS Engineering360) webinar registration page. The webinar talks about multiple material color printing technology. It is sponsered by Stratasys. Figured you brainiac types might br interested. Scheduled for 3-12-15 at 2:00 EST. I get these webinar notifications all the time but have never registered so I have no idea how it works. Enjoy.by elwood127 - General
I just noticed that if I open Cura alone the settings are there but opening it through repetier it isn't. ?by elwood127 - Reprappers
I've been trying Cura the past few days and am really happy with it but I can't seem to find how to add support structures. Am I missing something in settings? Thanks.by elwood127 - Reprappers
Sorry, I just noticed the "Look what I made" section. If all else fails, read instructions.by elwood127 - Look what I made!
Hey all, check out this cool Bender print. Got him at Thingiverse. Cura said it was a 7 hour print. Actually took almost 12. What's up with that? Enjoy.by elwood127 - Look what I made!
Nice job but alot of work. I have a jewelers lathe so it would be easy to turn. Or maybe steal and inner race from a bearing. Cool thing about this hobby, it keeps you thinking.by elwood127 - General
I live 80 miles east of Salt Lake City and get my filament from Zenikinetic. A cool little shop that produces printers, scans people or whatever for $20.00 and sells rolls. I go down there about twice a month to pick up flooring and supplies. They produce their own filament on site. Yesterday I traded three used rolls of 3mm for one new 1.75mm. Cool guys. I guess I'm lucky.by elwood127 - General
Wow, that was a very interesting topic. Thanks for all of the input. I'm going to draw something in metric right now. Gotta start somewhere.by elwood127 - General
I downloaded Cura and ran the same part. Holes came out almost perfectly round and slightly closer to desired size. Same with the square hole. For default settings I'm pretty pleased.by elwood127 - Reprappers
Sorry about the double post. I thought that I had deleted the first one. I guess not. Thanks for the replies. It sounds like it is time to conform or be cast out. Once again America is wrong thinking that it holds the high ground. That's why an earlier Mars mission inpacted the surface. One guy designing in mm's and another in inches. I'm going to buckle down and set Rhino up for mm's. Somethingby elwood127 - General
I realize that the metric system is much simpler. After all what genius decided that 11/64ths was the way to go? I wondered why every STL file I download is in mm? I use Rhino 3D and always draw in inches. Am I the only one?by elwood127 - General
