I have some extra parts hanging around from my CoreXY build, so I am thinking to build an extremely small Delta. I have 3 extra 300mm slides, so I am thinking a Delta aprox. 300mm high with a build area of about 100mm diameter or so. This will probably be used only with PLA without a heated bed. It will be too small to include a normal power supply inside the main structure, so a small externalby patrickrio - General
The most common sizes for 24v power supplies seem to be 3A/70W, 3.75A/90W and 5A/120W. Here is a list of the power supplies: Amazon 24V Power Supplies I like to order from Amazon because if it doesn't work, the return policy is good. I have a 70W universal power supply already, so I will try that first.by patrickrio - General
I am trying to build a new printer using a laptop style power supply and a Duet 0.6 control board. If I use a standard E3D lite nozzle, 0.8 amp motor for extruder, and 3 0.5 amp motors for movements and without heated bed, what are my power supply amp requirements for a 12 volt design? how about a 24v design? Thanks.by patrickrio - General
the ingenuity on display here at reprap.org never ceases to amaze me. Congratulations on solving the problems you had in such interesting ways.by patrickrio - Look what I made!
I have effectively zero sag on my MGN-7 size rail for 250mm distance. So you have one data point.by patrickrio - Mechanics
It uses Teflon tubing and a miniature PEEK insulator in the heatbreak. I asked James, and so far, after about 200 prints on the first prototype it has not jammed even once. The next few prototypes have only been running for a few weeks, and have about 100 prints between them, and have also not jammed a single time. I use the basic heat break design on my printer also - but with Volcano styleby patrickrio - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements
as a cheap alternative to PVC that doesnt melt, what about steel electrical conduit as a frame material. Maker Faire NYC had a guy this year that designed fittings to turn conduit into structural frames. I will see if I can find a link. Found the link: Maker Pipe Connectors Pretty sure that some acceptable connectors could be 3D printed too.... I think that this solution is obviously inferioby patrickrio - General
That way of mounting the hot end is pretty much how I mount mine in my CoreXY constuct. Here is how I clamped the belts:by patrickrio - Mechanics
For a heated bed in that strange size, it would be a custom job. Probably from that company that will build a Mains voltage silicone mat to desired size.... Based on seeing the Prusa i3 style x axis in action, It is my hunch that you could double the length of the rods in the same size and it would work without much vibration. have not seen someone do it yet though.by patrickrio - Reprappers
Hmmm. Julian makes the best point here, but is too subtle when safety issues like this are discussed. A plastic candle holder is a fire hazard unless designed carefully, preferably with inclusion of fire safe materials. Most plastic filaments are flammable. See this video: Various Plastic Filaments Burning If not designed with metal or ceramic liners, and also protection for the vertical rodby patrickrio - Printing
An important question is if the object to be printed can be built with the height or vertical axis as the long 400mm axis. Things to consider are: 1. are there gaps or holes in the print that mean it must be, or should be, printed with one side of the object at the bottom? It is very hard to print an object accurately if it has a large gap with a "roof." Or, holes that are round and must be uby patrickrio - Reprappers
yep. center your drill holes in edges, for sure!!!! most MDF is pressed together in layers, so holes through the flat side are easy, and holes in the edges tent to split. Another advantage for MDF frames in the USA. You can have Home Depot and Lowes cut FREE for you if you are careful. Just make sure their saw is maintained enough to cut square (the employees do not really care if the machine cuby patrickrio - Reprappers
Yeah, pretty cool little printer, right? James recently carried two of these in his backpack to our local 3D printer night. It is really much more convenient for demonstrations and small parts than my printer is. James Carpino is a university professor but volunteers to teach 3D printing to local youth groups. At a recent presentation he was VERY surprised at how interested the young girls wereby patrickrio - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements
I am away from my printer for a few days. will check Java and other stuff in the list when I get back.by patrickrio - Ormerod
sorry, wood glue also. but also, if you use the right screws with large bite, and pre drill the holes to the right sizes, you don't get splitting. i used some stainless screws that have very narrow center shafts with big teeth, but wallboard screws would work nicely too. in a 4 sided box, the screws all triangulate against each other too, making everything even more rigid. My frame is strongerby patrickrio - Reprappers
My sliders never worked either, I had never wanted to use it yet, but would like the option in the future. I have the latest version dc42 firmware with chrome browser, adware and extensions disabled. Printer is CoreXY.by patrickrio - Ormerod
I used MDF for mine. for getting square, I cut some extra mdf pieces the same width to use as guides for clamping. Once clamped, I drilled holes and countersinks and screwed the 4 flat sides together. It is perfectly square.by patrickrio - Reprappers
Also, I contacted PrintrBot support about using their setup for a bowden drive. They said that they figured it would work, but had never tried it. Might be a pain in the butt to machine a place to connect the fitting.... I wish someone would review all of the options scientifically. I would volunteer, but buying all the options would cost about $1000... too much.by patrickrio - General New Machines Topics
Miniature printer based on the PrintrBot Simple design. $253 for kit. Printer weight is just 2.5 pounds. very small. I am sure James would love some support!!!by patrickrio - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements
Hi, So it is official. My friend did a kickstarter for his miniature version of the PrintrBot Simple which he named Baby3D to avoid trademark problems. Here is the link so you can check it out: Baby3D Kickstarter He expects no problems with delivery as he already has built several functioning units and has backup suppliers. I am going to post this in the crowdfunding section too.... I have uby patrickrio - General
I need this information also.... I have asked in another thread but did not get responses that were based on experience with the volcano and 1.2mm nozzles. Other Thread We may need to do some testing..... with geared motors and dual sided and geared hobs, the testing could get expensive.....by patrickrio - General New Machines Topics
I am looking at some options for US buyers. What about these tapes???by patrickrio - General
actually, the idlers are mounted on a plate, and the plate and x axis rail are mounted directly to the carriage blocks of the y axis.by patrickrio - CoreXY Machines
No, it is a CoreXY. If you watch the video, you can see the 4 belt ends are attached to the carriage, which only works on CoreXY. The belts cross in the back under the black cover, above where all the motors are. I used 4 identical 78 oz in 0.9 degree stepper motors.by patrickrio - General

Zippy, is your goal to make a small CoreXY printer????? if it is, you can make it much smaller I think. my CoreXY is 270x310x365mm in size and has a print volume of 200x200x260. I think you could make a pretty small CoreXY.by patrickrio - General
He has his own lasercutter at home, so it is easy for him to do his prototyping. For production he would probably use a larger lasercutter to print faster with less waste..... If he does a kickstarter, he will likely be willing to sell you laser printed parts too...by patrickrio - General
what about 2 sided, dual gear solutions? I think I may need more power to extrude as fast as I would like....by patrickrio - General
