I am trying to make my printer quieter and the fan in the power supply is pretty loud. I would just replace it with a better fan but it's a 16v fan. I would like to get a new power supply that is fanless. From reading the wiki I am thinking I should have a 30 amp one because I have a heated bed. Let me know if I am wrong about needing 30 amps because there are lots of 20 amp ones. Can anyoneby msaeger - Reprappers
I used ABS and I actually didn't really smell anything. I don't think I will get anymore after this roll because PLA and PETG were easier with better results.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
I was thinking the metal might damage the nozzle.by msaeger - General
There is a check box there but it didn't work, when I checked it I was still getting extrusion.by msaeger - Repetier
I got a 60 mm fan and ran it off the 12v out on the PSU it was as loud as the one in there already. How much output do I need to run this machine? I am thinking I will just get a passively cooled PSU but the largest I can find is 20A.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
Quotezarnold16 Hi everyone my printer is working now with the new Ramps and Arduino. I have a question about my printer during the prints. In the video I attached, should my printer be that loud when printing, as in when my x axis moves. Also, How can I get rid of the ripples on the single side that is parallel with the x-axis. (Video and Pics of First Print) What are you using for material anby msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
Quoterollinns msaeger originally you wanted to try this to see if it held up to temps seen inside a car. how has it held up? o_lampe what leads you to believe the PETG filament prices will drop? I'm eager to get my printer done and start experimenting with PETG. I live in a place where filament is not available locally, but empty soda pop bottles are easily found, so if things go wellby msaeger - Reprappers
I pulled out the fan from the power supply and it's 60mm x 16mm and it's a two wire one but it says that it's 16v on the tag? What can I do to get a quieter fan in there? I could just get an ATX power supply I guess but it wouldn't really fit on there nice like this one does. I suppose I could just wire a 12v one to the 12v output on the power supply but then the power supply couldn't control theby msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
I got a 1/4" thick silicone pad at a surplus store today and put a 4"x6" piece under each corner and that has made the printer quieter. I took them out during a print and it got much louder. I don't know about the rattle noise that I started the tread about I didn't hear that with or without the pads today yet. I wonder if a big pad under the whole machine would be better or worse?by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
Quotemarkts Quotemel0n My Y axis is the quietest on my Folger 2020. My x-axis however....... sounds exactly like that video. And to be honest, I think its cheap bearings and or an alignment issue. It gets louder with resonance, but is still there the whole time regardless. I have tried everything short of replacing the bearings. I thought about bushings, but mine has gotten a lot quieter with timby msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
I am starting to think maybe it's so loud because it's being amplified from the table. I tried placing the printer on a carpet tile with attached pad and that made no difference but it's not a very thick pad.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants

QuoteAlso I have some strings when printing most noticeable when it it printing open holes. Maybe 220 is to hot for ABS? If you are using slic3r you can try unchecking "only retract when crossing perimeters"by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
I tried some grease in the bearings and that didn't get rid of the noise I used Krytox because I had some. It doesn't happen until after it has been printing a while so it has to be something changing with the heat right?by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
Today I got a roll of the inland glow in the dark pla and purple pla. The glow in the dark stuff seems to have a rough texture on the filament. I am printing something with it now and it's working so far.by msaeger - General
Quotethetazzbot well, the price marked at the store i go to is $19.95 on the box. the sign said sale $14.95 the last few spools ive bought were $19.95. Yep I saw that on the box too but I swear my store didn't say sale on the tag but maybe I just missed it.by msaeger - General
Quotejculver09 Quotekengineer The stuff prints better than anything I have ever used.... the best you have ever squirted out your nozzle. lawl.... Yes, it is great and having a local source that is not $50/kg is very nice. Microcenter here has them for $15 every day all day, and on Amazon it is $17.99 with free shipping. Not sure on others experience but I have used same temperatures for all cby msaeger - General
I found last night after my print was done when the bed was still hot if I slowly slid the bed by pushing in the front edge center I got the noise. I am going to try some grease in the bearings and maybe some kind of pad between the bearing blocks and the metal bed. Any recommendations for grease?by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
The Y motor is actually larger than the others so I can't try to swap them. I have been printing for about 5 hours and the Y motor is still cold.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
Quoteejnelson Anyone tried printing any exotic filaments or know what the hot end can handle? It is the Mk7 right? I'm thinking about buying some taulman bridge, any experiences anybody? I have used PETG if that's exotic.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
Quotesarf2k4 Judging from the noise it made, it seems like the rails are somewhat loose, making it vibrate The Y axis smooth rods are tight in the blocks on the frame. It also seems like it gets worse after it has been printing for awhile.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
When I was in the store and bought some it was 14.99 and didn't indicate a sale. I hope they aren't unloading it or something it would be great to be able to keep getting it locally.by msaeger - General
This is on the folgertech 2020 i3 I am trying to eliminate the Y axis vibrating noise that I am getting. It is the same noise the person who posted this youtube video is having. I can't replicate it by using the manual controls in Repetier it seems to depend on the speed the bed is moving. I have tried using the dry run feature in Repetier but it doesn't work for me. Any troubleshooting ideaby msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants

Quoteanimoose 40, 40, 90% for the first three and 150 for travel speed. I have tried cranking it up quite a way from these without hurting quality in most cases. I used 40, 40, 90% for a few things now and I think the printer is actually quieter at this speed. I have been leaving travel set to 60 because it's quieter and hardly changes the print time.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
Quotemike3 [email protected] I received a "professional ceramic alignment tool" AKA a non conductive screwdriver for adjusting my steppers. Is this not shipped with the kits normally to avoid shorting the steppers? Yes it is.. but from reading the threads its the Multimeter probes that usually end up shorting the drivers out..
