I am going to attempt to implement this guys setup. It like the BLtouch in that it wouldn't matter what the surface is and it doesn't have some big arm coming down like the others that use a servo.by msaeger - General
The benefit of the aluminum plate is so you have a flat surface. I found the heat bed pcb to be warped and even putting a piece of glass on there didn't help because the glass would conform to the pcb. But you look like you are getting pretty good results so just keep doing what you are doing :-)by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
QuoteMechaBits Just found this MakeBlock stuff, never seen it before, nice blue meccano type stuff, so should have added to other thread, some handy components. Anyone know how long this stuff has been going? Scratch that, seems it was on kickstarted last year raised $200k I have the mbot line follower type thing from them. There stuff looks neat but it's so expensive.by msaeger - General
Let's see some pictures of the machine.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
If you don't like the noise of the PSU I would get an ATX one and mod it. When I was looking for a quiet one those LED strip type all looked the same so I suspect they are all loud and the ones with no fan don't supply enough power. For the hotend I would print the mount then wait until the one you have fails to upgrade. If the fan is the biggest issue that 30mm one that comes with the E3D willby msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
I got it out by using the largest drill bit that would fit in there I suppose I scored the inside but I wouldn't think it would matter since the filament is going though the liner anyway. Is it supposed to fit so tight at the bottom of the cool block? I don't remember it being that way when I put it together the first time. Oh well the filament still goes through there freely.by msaeger - General
I must have cooked the liner in my e3d lite6. I heated up the cool block and removed a piece of pla that was stuck in there but I can't get the rest of the ptfe tube out of there. I have been trying with a drill bit but I can't get the outer layer out it's stuck to the cool block. Anyone know how to get it out?by msaeger - General
I would rather get the smartrapcore kit. You will be taking everything apart on the pre-assembled one at some point anyway.by msaeger - General
Are you talking about the Smartrapcore? I only have the i3 but I don't see people saying a corexy is inferior.by msaeger - General
I get that mostly when on the phone and I click submit twice because I didn't think the first one took.by msaeger - General
I'm not saying this guy isn't a jerk but look how many people sell 3d printed parts for printers and printer kits isn't that the same thing? Maybe some of them get permission from the designer but I doubt they all do.by msaeger - General

I was just thinking today it would be neat to be able to print something with random layer heights. I think that it would make more organic wood like appearance. I have found in slic3r I can specify layer ranges to be different heights but I would like it to be random or have it randomly choose from several chosen layer heights. Is there anything that will do this for me?by msaeger - General
Quotemarkts I definitely have to give Rep Host a try. I've been happy with Octoprint but I'm always looking to see what else is out there. I spent some time over the last few days getting my E3D-V6 Lite together and installed. I had printed a bunch of things to get ready, knowing I wouldn't want to put the old hot end back on if I forgot something. These: Z-endstop trigger adjustment: Strongby msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
Here's a stepper motor PSA. Make sure you have all four screws holding the motor together. My extruder stopped working. After messing around a while I finally removed the motor and discovered I couldn't turn the shaft by hand. I only had two two of the screws in there holding the case together and the sideways pressure of the belt driven extruder caused the armature to get wedged. Quotestanger2k What do you guys recommend to do when you want to switch the type of filaments that you are using? Such as going from PLA to ABS and the other way around? I would think melting at the PLA temp would not melt the ABS but if you set the hot end to an ABS temp, then it would burn the PLA? If you are worried about that heat the nozzle up to the temp of the filament that's in there aby msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
I finally cleaned up the wires and replaced the jet engine like power supply with a silent one. I used this power supply from microcenter they had refurb ones for 22 dollars. This think makes no noise even with the printer running. Now it makes me want to find a more quiet one for the cool block.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
QuoteUltiFix So im thinking about an enclosure for the folger tech, here a few of the good things about it, please correct me if im wrong. Quotenerdmor Just joined The forum so I could ask this. I am new at 3D printing. Built my Prusa from a kit and it was working wonderfully until today, when, mid-print, the extruder motor simply stopped working. I have very little knowledge about electronics, but I did do the obvious and switched the X axis and the extruder plugs on the Arduino board. The extruder motor did run, so the motor isn'by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants

Quotejandcando I have a PCU from an old PC. It has 280 watts and 16 amps on the 12 volt rail. Is that enough? I have been reading 20 but I don't really know for sure. I had several old ones too but none that claimed 20A on the 12V rail so I just bought a new one. 20 bucks for one that can do 32A and is silent even under load was a good deal. QuoteUltiFix Recieved some hatchbox PLA and ABS, time to do some ABS printing for the first time 215C and 100C for the extruder and bed sound good? What temp range do they recommend? I do ABS @235 but I have a different brand.by msaeger - Prusa i3 and variants
