Thanks very much gentlemen - after some consideration I have now ordered a Prusa i3 Mk2 kit - I am sure I will get similar printing problems to the Fisher (but hopefully not as many!) but the print area is larger which is a factor for me. If I have to spend some time calibrating it I can cope with this if the output is then reliable We will see, but it looks like the support for the Prusa is pby cparsons - Fisher
I have been struggling with my Fisher Delta 3D printer for weeks trying to get consistent results - bought the heated bed, replaced the numerous broken acrylic arms with carbon fibre arms (which turned out in the end to be caused by a dodgy Z limit connection on the controller) and even switched to PETG because 'it is known to stick to anything and itself very well' (but not printed on my printerby cparsons - Fisher
Ok, I have made the carbon fibre replacement rods - and yes, they do look a lot more elegant than the originals although it was quite difficult sourcing the end fittings. Yet to see how well the epoxy holds but it is good so far... I am thinking now reading the last post perhaps I ought to be checking the ball spacing again (it is certainly not as precise as detailed!) Best approach? Do you thiby cparsons - Fisher
Anyone had a go at fitting a power (on/off) switch to their Fisher? Bit irritating groping around the back for the power cable to turn it on and off! Since my RepRap logos won't fit I did wonder about making up new ones incorporating a switch of some kind to avoid cutting a new hole in the acrylic panels (and probably cracking them!) Thank you Steve - I checked my build last night and you are correct, the 16mm effector screws are far too long, I have changed these for 12mm and things are a lot better (no more horrible grinding noises!) I have written to Traplet and suggested they correct the build instructions before anyone else ends up breaking something! The calibration is now working correctly and the prints are a lot beby cparsons - Fisher
I have found an potentially serious error in the build instructions for this printer and sent an email for Traplet , who I bought the printer kit off - copied below... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I want to bring to your attention an important error in the build instructions? The write up for the effector assembly says use three M3 * 16mby cparsons - Fisher
What would be a solution? Change the switches for something else? Chrisby cparsons - Fisher
Spoke (a bit) too soon...over the weekend I had a few problems with prints not sticking to the bed, and have ordered some blue painters tape to try - surgical alcohol didn't make any difference. More worryingly is that on several occasions the 'Home All' caused the print head to crash into the print bed (usually off centre) requiring an emergency stop and power off reset - at which point it behaby cparsons - Fisher
Ah - excellent, thought there might be some adjustment required - I called Traplet (where I got the printer kit from) and their technical support guy was very helpful, he also mentioned running the 'bed4' macro from the macros list although thought this might be the same as clicking the 'Auto bed compensation' button (the name changes to 'Auto Delta...' when the printer is connected??!) I did have a problem with this originally which was caused by the hex bolt going through the large gear. The cutout for the hex head on the gear was preventing the hex bolt head going fully into the 'socket' and when there was a bit of resistance in the filament the gear was spinning around on the bolt head...I fixed this by dismantling the extruder and using a normal nut (not nylock in other woby cparsons - Fisher
My new printer produced it's first output over the weekend, pretty impressed with the quality A couple of hopefully minor questions? The recommended temperature for PLA is 190 degrees but I cannot get anything to stick to the rubber base unless it is printed at 235 degrees? I upgraded the firmware to 1.11ch and replaced the SD disk image as indicated and have noticed that the button 'Auto Bedby cparsons - Fisher
Sorry to follow up my own reply, but I had a sudden thought and checked the GitHub repository, and yes, the CAD plans are there for the rods...as well as everything else I have drawn a dimension to the hole centres and they are 160 mm apart so 1 m of carbon fibre rod will make 6 rods with a bit left over (160 * 6 = 960), and I guess each rod will have to be slightly shorter anyway to allow foby cparsons - Fisher
Thanks very much - I saw the eBay ad but they only had one left, but I have now ordered two packs direct from the UK manufacturer I will need 3mm carbon fibre rod to fit these, yes? Any idea what length? I am in the office and cannot measure the existing rods and would like to get this ordered too, looks like this is fairly easy to get from eBay. I guess I can rough up the end of the rods andby cparsons - Fisher
Thanks, I think I will get the printer working and then looks at what you suggest - although it looks like the sockets for the CF rod are problematical, the sources quoted seem to have dried up If the acrylic connectors are so poor why on earth do the kit suppliers keep selling them, and not research better alternatives - would help those getting started like myself! I started my build last night and am progressing fairly well, but have a couple of issues? Fairly trivial but the RepRap 'badge/logo' doesn't clip in, just falls out and will need to be glued, or I might make a new one a bit bigger so that it is an interference fit! Main issue is setting up the spacing across the balls to be 57mm across - the build instructions say at least make them the same mby cparsons - Fisher
I am a model engineer and am toying with the idea of building a 3D printer? I am currently converting my milling machine to CNC and have built all the electronics, and am making the hardware to fit the stepper motors to my mill (and doing a working demo of progress so far on 9 Sep in Exeter for my local engineering club if anyone is interested in coming along...) ...back to the original subjectby cparsons - Devon RepRap User Group
