Ok, the good news is that I got it to work today. Apparently pin #53 is the correct one. Have you ever heard the term "Operator Error", well I have and I've done it more than once. I am using Windows 10 on the computer. When I format the SD card I have these options. NTFS Fat32 Fat exFat- never heard of this one. So I reformatted each one and copied a G-code SD card file over each time. Iby kd6hq - Controllers
Did you remember to cross the ribbon cables so that so that EXP1 on the RUMBA board goes to EXP2 on the display and EXP2 to EXP1? If so then try plugging in the display board to a RAMPS board. You will need the adapter for the RAMPS board. At least that way if it works then you know that there is something going on with the RUMBA board. I have also heard that not all Full Graphics boards wilby kd6hq - Controllers
Please do I have not had any luck with it. It works fine on the RAMPS board, but not on RUMBA.by kd6hq - Controllers
Well all I can say it that it looks like the same pin #53 is used for both RAMPS and RUMBA. So why the SD card works with RAMPS and not with RUMBA is a mystery to me. Perhaps there is bug in the firmware that I have not found yet.by kd6hq - Controllers
So I have my RUMBA controller setup and everything is basically except the SD card. Checking pins_RUMBA.h file, pin 53 is defined for the full graphics controller. This is the same pin that RAMPS 1.4 uses. However for RUMBA it dose not appear to work. If I plug the SD card into my RAMPS printer it works but not in the RUMBA. I notice that in the RAMPS pin file both LCD_SDSS and SDSS are used buby kd6hq - Controllers
I happen to find this on E-bay. I have not used one yet, it cost more than the mechanical relay most folks use but you can use the "PID" switching with it.by kd6hq - Controllers
For what it's worth: For me, I have been using my RAMPS 1.4 board for about 1 1 /2 yeas now and some times I drive it for long prints (the 8 or 9 hour type). I use NEMA 17 motors, with a holding power of 84 oz. and 1.5A per phase maximum. The current is calculated to use only 1 amp per phase. I'm using A4988 drivers with the standard 9 x 9 mm cooling fins. In addition I have a 50mm fan(s) mby kd6hq - RAMPS Electronics
I don't really know much about CNC but it seems to me that you would need a new frame and possibly new stepper motors. If you don't want to spend much then perhaps a laser cutter would be an easier switch as I don't think you would need to change much. Mostly the mount for the laser instead of a hot end. Of course a software change but I do not know which one. Once you switch over to CNC/Laby kd6hq - RAMPS Electronics
I've been looking for something like this. Which version did you get and how did you hook it up? thanksby kd6hq - RAMPS Electronics
Well I finally got around to trying the 8825's again. I can now adjust the voltage ok, but they are running hot for just a few minutes of operation. It could be that I have damaged them, as I put the A4988 drivers back in and they are running normal. Is anyone else using the DRV8825's in the Rumba board? I'm not even sure they will work with Rumba but I don't see why they would not - but theby kd6hq - Controllers
If it works please let us know here. I'm about at the same stage you are. thanksby kd6hq - Controllers
I went back an read the E-bay add again, "and interface that are nearly identical to those of our A4988 stepper motor driver board" I did not catch this the first time around. Were you able to get them to work with properly orientation? I have not been able to, I guess I burnt a part or something, not sure what. Thanks for responding.by kd6hq - Controllers
I purchased a Rumba board and DRV8825 stepper controllers. I inserted the 8825's just as I would A4988's. I plugged in the USB connector and proceeded to adjust the voltage on the 8825's. I am unable to adjust the voltage properly. I tried several of the controllers and none of them would adjust properly. I removed the controllers then plugged in one at a time, thinking that perhaps all 6 at onby kd6hq - Controllers
o lampe and Dust, thank you for your thoughts on adding a 3rd hot end/ extruder. After some consideration I decided just to build new printer. Although my current printer is printing well I decided I wanted to expand the print area. I think it would be simpler to build a new printer while printing what parts I could on the existing printer. I will be getting away from the current design andby kd6hq - Controllers
If you are using a mechanical relay and it is switching rapidly you need to change the firmware not to use the PID control. In your firmware find the section titled "PID > Bed Temperature Control' Look for the following command line and commit it out. #define PIDTEMPBED By placing // preceding the command //define PIDTMEPBED then recompile and upload. Currently I am using a RAMPS 1.4 / 2560, Marlin RC-6 combination. I am using a single E3D hot end with a 2 in 1 adapter for 2 colors. I would like to change this setup to be able to use the Diamond hot end. In order to do this I will need to add a 3rd extruder. I can do this by changing the controller board to something like the Rumba controller or by using a stepper expansion module. So my qby kd6hq - Controllers
If you are using Repetier-Host, under the Slic3r screen click on "Configuration." When the window opens click on "Support material" in the left column. Under "Support Material" look about 1/2 way down under "Options for support material and raft." Contact Z distance is what you are looking for. This setting is used to determine the distance between the object and the support material. Hope thisby kd6hq - Prusa i3 and variants
george4657 Well I made the change to "EEB" and that seemed to take care of it like you said. TEMP_SENSOR was already changed but thanks for mentioning it. I built a printer using RAMPS 1.4, Arduino 2560. IR sensor Firmware: Marlin RC-6. I'm having a problem understand the coordinates. Possibly solved. It appears like there may be a conflict between the RAMPS board ground and the accessory board ground. I still don't know how or why it turns the bed voltage on, but it does. So I will not be using that part of the accessory board. Donby kd6hq - RAMPS Electronics
