interesting, but wouldnt that apply to normal resin print curing as well?by sungod3k - General
Hello fellow crafters, I've taken on a project for a friend and am currently in the process of 3D printing a cosplay helmet. I'm trying to avoid the typical route of bondo or putty and endless sanding, and instead, I've decided to give UV resin a try. I invested in a specific UV resin curing lamp which I've seen used in several YouTube videos on similar projects. Alongside this, a friend generoby sungod3k - General
Hi, I want to build a quick swap extruder system like the wham bam mutant and i once bought these plugs that have two thicker terminal for the hotend wires. but paying 150 for a full kit seems a little steep. i found projects like this but i was surprised not finding a DIY solution. have you ever come across something similar? Cheers. F.by sungod3k - General
@dc42 yeah looking forward to what the new prusa will be able to do on that front. or putting a little spayer on one of the toolheads and spraying solvent around the model every few layers could also be interesting. looking at my research over the last 2 days XTC3D paint on resin or alcohol vapor smoothing are my favorites so far.by sungod3k - General
yeah, this is a possibility but i havent found a clear recipe that avoids the parts getting weak, (a possibility that exists with the polysher as well). and acetone vapors are probbaly unhealthier than alcohol vapors. but i imgine that my proposed bigger polysher could handle acetone as well.by sungod3k - General
Hi, I got a request to print a cosplay helmet for someone, but I dont want to sand PLA, or bondo such complex structures. Im familar with the polysmooth system and im thinking about building a bigger polysher --> but i wonder if there isnt a generally accepted better way or maybe a new material that i havent heard of that sands better than PLA? Hi, i recently got a broken artillery sidewinder x1 from a friend to tinker or repair. it uses and MKS gen L v1.0 board and I updated the marlin to the newest version. in regular intervals i get a min temp error on the bed. this is a common problem on the machine an I will change the thermistor cable soon. however i can see any temp drops while in use. the heating curve look fine. and theby sungod3k - General

Cheers F.by sungod3k - Allgemeines
Hi, im trying to figure out my max extrusion volume and i came across this: when I look the G1 commands that produce the blobs. they seem very slow to me G1 Z10.5 E200 F2.49 ; Extrude This is the first blob command. At a speed of 2,49mm/min or 0.041mm/sec the move takes 4.01 minutes. isnt that way too slow?by sungod3k - General
Hi, i work in orthopedics and were using a Raise 3d pro 2+ which is fine, but now that we need an additional printer I dont want to buy a 5 year old machine for ~5000€. The new Pro 3+ however costs 7700€ which is a bit above my budget. I have looked far and wide for hobby level machines which are totally fine for what we print, but they usually go only up to 400-500mm in Z height, and we neeby sungod3k - General
Hi, im thinking about buying a Modix printer (https://www.modix3d.com/big-120z/) for my company and im looking for someone who has used one and wants to share some experiences. I like the machine mainly because its using duet and all advantages that come with it, but I also heard some weird stuff that mainly has to do with the fact that it comes in a kit. one supplier also told me that it suby sungod3k - General
Hi, I've recently got some request to cut prepreg carbonfiber before its hardened for some model plane makers. I have a suitable shapoko and I have done some paper plotting with my 3d printer, but I dont think the paperplotter will manage the prepreg sheets. So I was wondering if there is a desktop cnc cutterhead for prepreg? I think an actively powered/ directional one would be better forby sungod3k - CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
QuoteVDX ... yes, you have to "simplify" your scan or base 3D file to get a "simpler" unwrap - the "coarser" the 3D-mesh-density, the lower edge-counts in the unwrap ... there is a similar plugin for fusion 360. its called "slicer" and its made for cutting plywood. it also has a feature which can simplify and unwrap based on the actual mesh edges. that theoretically works but it almost impossiblby sungod3k - General
QuoteDust Perhaps ? interesting. just tested that with my scans. it seems to interpret each edge as one crease, so it unwraps the model on a super detailed level.by sungod3k - General
Well yes that half way how its done now. The cut lines are drawn on and then the whole thing gets scanned anyway. so i have most of the work already done. i just need to isolate the cutlines and unwrap the part. but for the unwrap part i need some program.by sungod3k - General
Hi, i work in orthopedics and we often cut carbonfiber mats that we lay onto plaster casts of body parts to form the frame for a prothesis. My first idea there was to cut the cf mats with a cnc because they always have the same pattern. However Im struggling with bringing the 3d shape onto a 2d sheet. I tried the unwrapping feature of meshmixer but the results are too distorted to be useful.by sungod3k - General
Hi, since i had managed to get a cutter-tool on my printer the next logical step was a pen. So I have been drawing some neat line-art drawings over the weekend. Then my eye turned to writing, so I looked up some single stroke fonts. After some searching I found a good method by using the HershyText plugin for inkscape, but I wonder if its possible to directly use single stroke font as a stanby sungod3k - General
Hi, I recently got offered to take over of a small etsy store that sells cheesy pebble pictures. While thinking of its profitability I saw this and which motivated me slightly to think again about 3d printing and its commercial value on sites like etsy. When 3d hubs still existed i actually made ca. 50€ per month which financed new parts for my printer, but i never actively looked for trendby sungod3k - General
Hi, i want to get some plotting functionality for my printer so i bought a vinyl cutter and made a little holder to attach it to the printer. I made some test cuts and i noticed some issues in steep corners, where the turning radius seems to be a bit to tight for the drag knife to come around. Hi, i really like the idea of a lampshade throwing a pattern on the wall like this and i had some ideas with lithopanes. However having a normal round bulb in a normal light location in the middle of the room would distort any projection heavily. I could sketch a simple pattern out in CAD and connect simulated light rays to a bulb but that get complicated quickly. I wonder if there a smartby sungod3k - General

Hi, I have been using 3d solex nozzles for quite some time now. They have this internal geometry that has more walls inside the melt chamber enabling more heat transfer, therefore the throughput should be increased. I usually printed with .4 or .6 nozzles and they worked great. Recently I needed to do some really fast prints so I switched to a .8 nozzle on an e3d volcano, which also works wellby sungod3k - Reprappers
yes and its great especially because most models provide .step files, but you have to be lucky to find a model that includes the part you need, because you usually search for full model/assemblies and not individual mechanical parts.by sungod3k - General
Hi, when designing new parts I often see myself spending lots of time on having to design mechanical parts like hinges, switches, connectors, collets, levers, screw connections etc. Even when I find a part I often have to rebuild them completely because the tolerances don't scale and while channels like this or [507movements.com] are a source of great inspiration designing those mechanisms intby sungod3k - General

Hi, im trying to plot some text on my printer and im looking for a vector to gcode program. The vector I generated in inkscape with a plugin called "hershys text" which is quite simple to use, but for gcode translators there are many for engraving and lasering but I havent found a simple one just for plotting with a pen.
