We have a makergear Prusa Mendel. I can now move all three axis, but having trouble with the z. I can get it to travel up from the bed using pronterface, but after about 50mm the axis stops moving but the threaded rod continues to turn. I have max z dimension at 200mm. Any ideas?
Thanks to all.

robertl925,
They were plugged in correctly, but found a bad connector (molex?) on the hotend thermistor. Took out the connector entirely and that was it. Thanks for helping locate the problem. I can now control all 4 motors, two heaters and extrude. Many thanks.

Thanks Andrew,
Yes, the problem was the connector on the hotend thermistor. Took the connectors off and just soldered the wires and all is well - or at least I can now control temps and motors. Thanks all- making serious progress now.

Jakowisp,
Thanks, Will check the Arduino Serial Monitor in the morning. Here is my Pronterface screen capture. It appears to be communicating???? My heaters won't heat. Not too sure where to go from here. Thanks for the suggestion???

Many thanks robertk925. Making progress. Modified your code slightly, compiled, uploaded and started Pronterface for Mac. Downloaded the precompiled Mac version of printrun at . I assume thatmeans I do not have to install python at all??? Screen shot shows at least one problem. I cannot seem to get the hot end to heat or the bed to heat. Thermistors are connected as are heaters, but the heaters

Am new to reprap.
Have built a Makergear Prusa with three microswitches as endstops from their kit with a fully constructed UltiMachine RAMPS 1.4 Using Arduino .22 to compile. Compiles fine, but I imagine I need to modify the source code in some fashion, as once I upload the compiled Marlin, the Reprap host software has no effect upon motors, heater, etc. Anyone have a suggestion?

Finished build of Makergear Prusa.
RAMPS 1.4 (new from Ultimachine)
Installed Java 6 JDK,
Installed python 2.7 and 3.2,
Installed Arduino .22 and 1,0
Downloaded ErikZalm-Marlin-v1.0.0.RC2-0-g27f595a
Using arduino .22 I compiled Marlin and uploaded it.
Downloaded reprap-mendel-20110509.zip extracted it and copied files to C:/Program Files/Reprap
When I run the batch file I get the console and se

I am at the Community School of Naples and we are building a MakerBot Mendel Prusa Kit. Some local expertise would be helpful. Mechanically finished, now working on alignment and testing before our first print.
This is a project of our high school Robotics class and some students have expressed interest in building their own.

Thanks to all. I purchased a tested RAMPS 1.4 board from Ultimachine since I did not trust my soldering skills. Installed the new RAMPS but still had issues. Discovered a problem uploading sketches from our PC, but found we could do so from a MacBookPro. Compiled and uploaded the test sketch from this site and now can get the motors moving. Here are my latest questions:

D1 is installed under the y axis motor controller. Hard to tell, if polarity is correct. Cathode band is toward power connectors. And, yes, it was the y axis motor I was hoping would move during the test sketch.

nophead,
Thanks for your interest. Yes, I could upload the Marlin firmware without the shield in place. One of my students then attempted to test using a test sketch for the printer. I only have the x axis motor connected to a single pololu motor driver, since I did not want to test all the motor controllers at once. I was hoping the the sketch would move each of the steppers in turn so that I co

I do not believe I have the diode installed. The RAMPS board I got in the Makerbot kit is slightly different than most I have seen. It was partially finished with surface mounted components. I have attached a photo of my finished board. I see D2 labeled and installed. Where would D1 go?. It could well be a power issue. Both 12volt inputs are connected and drawn from the ATX power supply they incl

I am new to both reprap and Arduino, but thought prehaps a kit might be an interesting project for my high school robotics class. We bought a makerbot mendel prusa kit and have finished most of the construction. My problem is apparently the RAMPS 1.4.
I have been over the board a few times. I am trying to compile and load the blink and fade sketches that are included with the Arduino software to
