Blender looks potentially a good option... It might at the same time allow use of the same skills for games/movies/art whatever. But how do you get into it? I tried a bit but was turned off by not finding a way to get scripts files in from the commandline, and not finding much reference.by Jasper1984 - General

You can say 'rapid prototyping' people want things to be convenient and '3d printers' like the process. For me though, the number of clicks and mouse moves to design something if i werent to use a keyboard-centric tool irks me already, nevermind what would happen if i needed to change some parameter.(Though -i am sure- some tools do parametric aswel.) What i mean is that the firmware limitations of the movement seem to be way smaller than the usable bed size,(about 100×100×80mm3, usable bed is more like 180×180×90mm3) stopping me from printing some big things. I used the command `slic3r --save status.cfg` so thats why he filename is what it is the version is 0.9.9 The size in slic3r is indeed 200,200, it seems like slic3r just looks at itby Jasper1984 - Reprappers

I have a reprappro mendel(one version older than current i think) But setting the bed size with M208 doesnt seem to do anything? I have the bed size in slic3r 200,200 as the defaults. slic3r doesnt seem to care about that parameter though. For good measure, in the attachments are my slic3r settings and the output of the settings(M503) and the firmware version, which is Marlin V1.(M115) The elecby Jasper1984 - Reprappers

I noticed a similar effect with blue PLA, but it seems for me the longer-duration layers are shinier instead.QuotePLA (or any other plastic for that matter) has a minimum flow rate that needs to be met. This is why there is that setting for minimum speed. I much doubt it exists, not to say that it isnt possible for one material to be better on all counts, but there are lots of properties that can be useful. A table with the properties could probably show it well, but i dont have the inclination to make one. I think PLA is rigid, biodegradable, potentially replab+farm-manifacturable and relatively easy to use, but a bit brittle, ABS and Nylon are mby Jasper1984 - General

Having the data from the force, temperature, the E position, power from resistor (possibly: measured E position) simultaniously in machine-readable form would be nice. I mean the theory that it cools down sounds possible on its face, but we might be in reach of actually having a more specific model of that, and testing it.(Do note that there do seem to be waves in the prints) One guess at a moreby Jasper1984 - General

At least when i slice it with slic3r it needs to first reach the bed temp, then the hot end temp. If the PID settings are wrong, warming up can take forever. Store what M503 says and M301 controls the values for the hot end and M304 for the bed. Dont know exactly how PID works. But if not heating up is the problem, probably you need to increase the P term. (page about gcodes) About it not conneby Jasper1984 - General

Bwaaaa talk about the combustion engine :p I have thought about a stirling engine. Basically use a big tin can and a smaller tin can slides back and forth inside displacing the air to where it is cooled and heated. The big outer can has a membrane on it, and which moves back and forth. Though it should have a clearer place to download everything about a project, and a better way to edit: (earlier ended mid-sentence, sorry) another way to upload. 1. seems relatively straight forward, but be careful not to put anyone off. (Nothing too obtrusive) I dont know what order of magnitude of money it brings in with those constraints. There is the off chance that some existing 3d printer companies are willing to fund the costs of servers just in order for there to be a good alternative to thingiverse. Thanks for the info on how it works. I think the options in `slic3r --help |grep acceleration` basically overrides settings the firmware uses.(I was confused thinking it was slic3r determining the acceleration) Oh, so on your machines the bed is more rigidly placed.. The format makes it easier for javascript writer, but i dont think it disadvantages other approaches much. Searching for json in just my package manage finds 5 readers/writers in C, one for perl, two for python, further i find them for common lisp, C++(well the C ones would work there anyway), it actually seems php has json build-in.. Tbh i dont see much info on how acceleration settings work? What happens if you set the slicer to move faster than the acceleration allows? Does it just cap the accellerations? Is it clever about that or will it just not follow the given track. Doesnt being clever in this case require knowing about turns sufficiently far into the future? Also, slic3r doesnt have any per-direction settings? I fby Jasper1984 - General

De editor is natuurlijk matig. Een goede text editor maken is ook niet echt het doel van openscad, persoonlijk gebruik ik de 'automatic reload and compile' en een aparte editor. Soms gebruik ik (http://implicitcad.org/) als openscad het niet trekt. Why not discuss it here? One cool thing to make.. hmm a reprap! More seriously, the vacuum cleaner powered dremel tool is cool. I couldnt get it to work though. (didnt have the parts so made up my own center to fit in it, but that designs had two instead on one screws and one of those screws went in too crooked, it turned out.)by Jasper1984 - General

I have been writing thingscript which is (for the sake of discussion here)just a script to generate html to represent files. The aim is that people can use it personally and put it on their own websites, but i guess it could be used on multi-user websites. It uses caching stls into arrays with thingiview.js which takes a while. Ok for personal users, possibly too long for a server. However probby Jasper1984 - Object repositories

I take it you havent found thingtracker yet? Dont think the format contains all that data though. The data is in JSON, tbh i think that is better than xml. Goes into javascript easily, has a library to read it in other languages too, is also nicer to read, and i think it even takes a little less space than XML. If we dont like it are we going against your grain or are you going against ours? Anyway, i dont see how this will work. I mean programs like cura is already basically .stl in, click prepare, click print. It looks like a model store is more likely. Most of my stuff is GPL, for the record. So it is a 3mm-on-the-carriage version? Good to have Also, not every knows italian, you know :p The new reprappro filament drive is really pretty nice, no wonder it inspires modification. Been looking into it myself, wanting the E-motor freeable more easily.(which seems more likely with this design than with the former) The idea is that i have a XYZE machine not just a FDM machine.by Jasper1984 - Look what I made!
