One of the first replacements I made on my FolgerTech Prusa i3 was the extruder. I printed THIS ONE and never looked back! It uses the parts from the stock extruder, plus a couple screws and a spring. It puts sufficient pressure on the filament and facilitates filament changes and clearing of jams.
I have made several mods to my printer - take a look at the linked photos in my sig

Hey all,
Mostly all I've been doing so far is playing with my i3. Then a friend from work asked if I could print him a part about 5" diameter, 2.5" high for a special personal project he is working on (if successful, I will add pictures to my public Google+ folder). I assembled a schematic in OpenSCad, printed a test model at 1:2.54 scale (a mistake actually, his numbers were all in inches, bu

Some suggestions:
Did you check the vrefs?
Maybe you should decrease the head temperatutre?
You can place a piece of cardboard over the bed as you heat it and when it reaches temperature you remove it! It will speed up the process by much! I can reach 100 degrees in 15 minutes from cold!
konto89!!!!!
Thank you so very much!
I took your tip and ran with it, adding some reflective/i

Hey everyone. I've been pre-occupied for a while, but am finally about ready to fiddle around again. I was hoping I could get some input. It's working better than it has, but it's still not as good as it looks like it should be based on the images I've seen of other people's results. So here goes...
First, if you check out the pics and videos here, it will show you where I'm at (visual aids a

WOOHOO! (boy do I feel stupid)
So I went ahead and switched the X and Extruder motors. And it still was doing the jig. So I knew then it had to be something I did. After sitting a few minutes just brewing and stewing, I figured, go back to the beginning - and there it was. The 2 middle wires were in the pin connector wrong. Switched them up and VOILA! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I noticed in the video that even when the filament is going through the extruder, the stepper seems to for lack of a better way to put it: take two steps forward and 1 back, so the end result is the filament moves forward, but it still seems to be "stuttering" its way through... i watch the video closely and the motion of the stepper does not seem like a smooth forward motion. Ok, so I had some time over a few days to get the extruder apart. Interesting to watch it fail in action...
Video to my patience test
So when I noticed it seemed to catch on the set screw, I set out to turn it around, and for the second time, had to go shopping for a hex driver (1/16) that wasn't in my collection (the last time it was 1.5 mm). Don't get me wrong, I like tools, but sheesh (thi

I will have to get a fan for my RAMPs / Arduino boards it sounds like. As for my extruder fan, I have it wired into the power supply so it is always on. It sounded like some people had hooked it up where the power goes into the RAMPs board, but there were so many wires there, I just directed it to the other side of the printer.
I don't have an LCD setup yet. I was hoping to get it work

I thought I was there...
After replacing my mucked up stepper motor drivers, I finally got all of my motors working correctly. Everything seems to be moving good. I go my hot end to heat up no problemo. Getting sooo excited!!
... and then, I wasn't.
Problemo a. My bed seems extremely slow to heat. Originally, I only had the one(+12) and three (-) pins wired in, but everyone seemed to be s

Haven't been around in a couple of days, and now I'm going into nights, so I might try and get this thing up and running when I get home in the morning - wind down time before I crash). It's nice to see there are some not too far from me - Waltermixx; AKFoddy7. I'm just outside of Peterborough (can't stand the city), and caved: I drove out to A2A, and while their site only shows the one model o

Well zorg, it appears you are correct - or so it seems at least. However, this is not good news in the least. I did the test as you suggested, and bammo, X drove smoothly! So I promptly, and excitedly swapped in the spare thinking I FINALLY HAVE IT! and nothing ; no movement at all this time, not even a twitch. So just to ensure, I then swapped the connections

I've finally got my Y and Z moving, but when the X motor picks up (i.e. if I hit the home button) the motor vibrates like anything without moving the carriage anywhere, and then, just before it stops, it moves back and forth about 1/2 cm each direction, without having any results. Until I hit "motors off" the motor is still tight. I started using the different v-r

I ordered my i3 a few weeks ago (around 60 had been purchased I think), but because real life kept getting in the way, amongst the difficulties I had getting it together, I'm only now getting close. However, I'm a little baffled at the difficulty I'm having with my X carriage. I've finally got my Y and Z moving, but when the X motor picks up (i.e. if I hit the home button) the motor vibrates li

I live in the Peterborough area, and was hoping I could find someone (or many somebodies) with a machine that could help to educate me. I've done some reading, and am hoping to pick up Prusa's book when it comes out, but up close and personal visuals / hands on is the best way to learn. Not sure how far I'd be willing to drive to see it, but as I get closer to being able to afford it (6 mo - 1 y
