Anyone have thoughts on what the best glue would be for the PLA bushings to my Prusa Mendel? aka, anyone know a good glue type that bonds well with PLA and wood, dries quickly, but not too quickly (like hot glue).

Thanks Nophead, im still having trouble because even at about 0.35V (measured between the little open probe point by the Pololu Pot and Ground) my X motor is too hot to touch.... I turned it down a bit and it seemed to help no more missed steps yet.
I should mention that my printer is a RepStrap built almost entirely (aside from the Adruino mega & Pololu drivers) from junk parts i already ha

Thanks Nophead and DeuxVis i will give all those methods a try when I get a chance and let you know how it goes.
Nophead, how did you come to 0.4V being a good value... is that just what you have found to work well in your experience or did you calculate that somehow?

I am having trouble with my motors skipping steps and am trying to dial in the correct current on my Pololu A4983 drivers.... im basically using trial and error right now, but is there a good step by step way to correctly set the current adjusting pot on the drivers?
Thanks,

Haha, yeah Anthong, I did go old school! I forgot to mention im building a "JunkStrap" mendel and trying to make it for as cheep or free as possible. I also don't have a lathe or drill press to make a proper up to date extruder barrel/nozzle, so i went with the hardware store version.
Brnrd, thanks for the tips, i forgot to mention that was just part of my extruder... below are some pics of the

I am having the same issue with my nozzle leaking up the threads.... i thought about using PTFE plumbers tape, but thought that it might insulate the nozzle too much from the barrel. Does anyone think that would be a problem?
Here are a few pics of my hot end...
Thanks,

Thanks MrJohn, that would be awesome! Any spare bits PLA would be much appreciated as i finish and test my extruder! I will PM you with my address!
Also, I just checked out your kickstarter page, pretty great idea! I really like how you are trying to keep RepRap parts affordable by printing lots of parts and offering them at as low of a cost as you can!

Sorry 13thfloor, i live in CA, but thanks for the offer!
p.s. Being pretty new to the RepRap community (around a year), I have really appreciated all the willingness to help that i have found from everyone involved! I plan to continue to stay involved and help alo

Would anyone (probably in the US) want to loan me just a short amount of PLA filament? Im currently building the extruder for my repstrap and don't want to buy a whole spool until i know i can get an extruder working.
Once i get the extruder up and running i would gladly mail you back the same amount of PLA once i buy my own spool.
Let me know! Thanks!

Thanks that makes sense... As I have been experimenting/tweaking a bit more, i have figured out that my geared down 7.5 degree steppers can't seem to go as fast with the current FiveD firmware for some reason.... they were working just fine with a 2 year old version of the FiveD firmware at the default speed, but with the latest version of the firmware they would just lock up and make a loud buzz

Firmware - mainstream and related support
You mentioned that you aren't using Opto endstops.... are you using anything for MIN endstops... like a microswitch (that's what i use)?
If so and you still want to use them you can also try re-enabling the MIN endstops, but inverting their output in the firmware.
I was having the same problem with no negative movements after updating my firmware. What had happened was the the new firmware was

Firmware - mainstream and related support
So im still trying to figure out the answer to my last question (for now, im sure i will have more)....
QuoteIs it possible to run different axis' in different microstepping modes? I may want to run my Y axis in 1/4 stepping because it is geared down so much, but leave the other axis in 16th stepping.
I have been messing with the settings in the firmware and my pololu stepper drivers, i tried t

Thanks... I was actually noticing today that without thermistors attached the host software showed a temp hovering in the 150 range.... so that totally makes sense to just reduce the target temperatures below 150 (or whatever it shows) to just trick the host into thinking the extruder is all heated up and ready to go.

Awesome, thanks Viktor... I made that change and my axis work in both directions now!
I still have a LOT of fine tuning to do, along with building an extruder, but im well on my way!
Do you have any thoughts on my other two questions...
Can i test print without an extruder? If so what settings do i need to change or do i need to comment out something?
Is it possible to run different axis in

Thanks for the continued help Viktor! Just a heads up, hardware/mechanics and electronics are my strengths.... I only have a basic understanding of programming/firmware.
So i didn't totally understand that, but let me see if i can repeat it back to you......
-My problem is that my endstop signal needs to be inverted because my axis will only move in the positive direction.

ok thanks, i will try to keep looking.... let me know if you do have a chance to look into it.
Anyone else know where to invert the endstop signals in the current FiveD firmware? Or have any thoughts on my other questions?

Firmware - mainstream and related support
I currently have the MIN-switches attached, so are you saying to physically invert the polarity of the signal in the wiring? Or to invert them in the firmware? If in the firmware how do i do that? This is what i see in the configuration.h file....
// Set to one if the axis opto-sensor outputs inverting (ie: 1 means open, 0 means closed)
// RepRap opto endstops with H21LOI sensors are not inverti

Hey Reprap community!
I'm currently having trouble getting my axis to move backwards... i can jog them forward, but when i try to jog them back they do nothing.
My setup is a "JunkStrap" (very crude RepStrap made from junk i found for free!)... Arduino Mega 1280, Pololu Electronics, & the latest RepRap Host software & FiveD Firmware.
I know my Pololu electronics are working because i w

I am also having the same problem finding the VNP14NV04-E MOSFET's..... Like Katxu said DigiKey has a 1000 minimum order and now Mouser is out of stock until the end of May 2011.
Does anyone know where i can get these individually or is there a similar MOSFET that will work just the same?

Ok, thanks Triffid_Hunter.... I was thinking that the FiveD on Arduino firmware was pretty stable now and would be usable by someone like me who has a lot of experience on the electronics side, but just a little on the programming side.
Would you recommend i go a different firmware/motherboard route? I would really love to use my Arduino Duemilinove '328, but maybe it's not the best solution for

Nice! I commented out the whole Fuses.h file and it compiled and uploaded!
Im a bit more confused about the psu and enable pins now though....
when you said "I set everything to always be enabled..." How did you do that?... Did you just connect all the Enable pins on the Pololu Drivers to ground to pull them Low? (The data sheet says they need to be pulled low to be enabled)... then you also c

Great, thanks for the reply!
That makes sense... so basically to use your firmware with the current release of the RepRap host software it would take some modification/updating.
Unfortunately I don't have the programming knowledge necessary to help in the development otherwise i would! I also just saw your updated firmware on Github too, thanks for updating that. I will grab it and give it a tr

RepRap Host
Hey mccoyn,
I have built a RepStrap Mendel and am currently trying to put together my electronics.
I already have a Arduino Duemilanove with the ATMega328 and want to see if it's possible to use that instead of buying a new Sanguino or RepRap motherboard.
Do you still support your modified 5D firmware? Would you still recommend it?
I pulled it off your Github page and am looking it over but i

Thanks for the quick answer Triffid_Hunter! Do you have a schematic and config.h of your setup i can look at....
I made the changes you mentioned and commented out the "#define GEN3" at the top of config.h, but that generated a few more problems/questions.
I commented out all of the Gen3 pins after the #else, but got the following error...
