Hi are you sure ur connecting the motors correctly? - maybe try to adjust ur drive for more current?
also check ur lm8uus or the bushings sitting on the axis

Well thank you for the comments! will definately take them into consideration.
i will also check the license thing that you mentioned.

This is the argument that i mostly agree with you about. the rest is totally arguable.

I understand your points.. but the thing that has been bugging me with the arduino due is simple.
arduino due costs around 70$
ti stellaris costs 13$
stm discovery series costs 20-30$
and we both realise that we are trying to lower the costs of 3d printers, and not make them higher. pay attention that the mega2560 boards that we've been using so far (mainly) cost 15-25$ so it was economical.. b

Hi guys,
i got a very important question to ask..
what is soo interesting about arduino due that you all want to build shields for?
why are you not using other - less expensive - and even -better- platforms such as STM32 series (also called stm32 discovery) or even more interestingly the TI STELLARIS series that are -even much more cheaper + low power ? (TI = Texas Instruments)
Thank you

Basically what im trying to do is create the hardware itself. meaning that i will remove myself from the MCU (atmega / arm) limitations.
What i plan to do is get a good FPGA board (maybe also connect it to labview / matlab for monitoring) and i will design the hardware from scratch - i.e create a seperate hardware model that will control the printer -- this way we can parallelize everything.

Hi,
Stepper motor wiring wont make a difference right now.. the only thing you might have is the motor spinning in the wrong direction.
when you measure voltage between the pot and the gnd.. ur measuring voltage and not current, you need to set the trimpot to match the current limitation of your motor as described in the page lazzymonk sent you.
And yes, i totally agree with you.. the wiki is

thats because all the ones selling the prusa mendels are actually selling their own "design" so its called differently.. very few call it "Prusa mendel" - but they are all the same - but differ slightly in size.

if u want to build ur own printer then go ahead and start wit hthe prusa mendel i2.. its well supported - documented and easy to do it yourself!
also the price is slightly lower than other options.. u can prolly get all the stuff needed for that for around 550$.
Lulzbot released his new version TK0, i think it has a buld area of 30x30x22.50 which is awesome! lulzbot like u said is an open source

"LM8UU plastic parts of ebay=$49.99+$12.35 shipping "
I recommended getting metalic lm8uu.. rather than printed bushings! i got mine cheap and they work really better -- not the best in the market but much better than the printed bushing...
P.S if you find someone selling u the lm8uu for 20$.. its most likely a rip off.. tell him to show you a picture of the bearing...

Hello guys,
I was wondering, how does the FIRMWARE effect the printing speed?
Anyone here dealt alot with the firmwares and knows the best firmware for printing speed? if so then please let me know what are the bottle necks.
My question here will really help me getting started with a newer (hopefully faster, better and cheaper) hardware set for reprap that im doing for fun-purposes only!

Hi Kobalt,
you can use RAMPS 1.4 for tri colour.
You have 5 a4988 slots there, which means 2 extruders can be mounted with ease. For the third extruder you need to hack the board alittle.
There is a blog that shows you how to do it yourself. its not complicated..its actually fun!
heres a small youtube video showing 3 colour extruder
in the blog page he explains how to hack the ramps 1.4!

Hi,
As redreprap saied, the parameters that come with the motors are extremely important.
You need to look for both the torque AND the AMP/PHASE (current).
If you are using the 4988 stepstick (or anything with the allergo 4988), the the way the driver is manufactured can influence your driver operation..
The number of layers in the PCB and the amount of copper help desipate heat - the driver usu

Day_Sleeper are you talking about chineese made motors from a new company called "Long motors" ? or logomotors i cant remmeber?
Anyways according to my experience both motors are pretty much alike.. 0.9 motor is has a smaller step (so remmeber to update your firmaware accordingly), with 0.9 you get a better resolution than the 1.8 degree, as the accuracy is higher.
4800 g/cm or 4200 g/cm are pre
