I'm going to purchase a few 40mm fans for my MendelMax 1.5 and mount them to the x-carriage for the extruder nozzle. Does anyone have experience and suggestions for fan options? Does a speed control fan actually help much, and if so how do I hook it up to my Arduino? I assume a higher volumetric flow rate will cool better, but is there really a case where there's too much? Thanks!by jblorch - Plastic Extruder Working Group

This is just awful.. I use acetone on every print and the filament that is extruded just curls up onto the nozzle. I've tried changing temperature, extrusion ratio, layer thickness... nothing. It somehow finds a way to stick to the nozzle and ruin the part. Any ideas?by jblorch - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I had a similar problem and what I found is you want to heat up your nozzle clean before any plastic enters for the first time. Put the filament so the motor just grabs it and eat to your extrusion temp. Then test extrude slowly until it makes it to the nozzle. This was night and day for me with my 0.35mm nozzle. So You may need to clean out your nozzle and try that.by jblorch - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Good news is I had a successful first print that looks pretty good except a little warping on the edges (cube). My problem is getting the print to start the first layer. It doesn't stick to the bed very well and as a result curls up onto the nozzle. I'm running at 60C print bed and 195 extruder nozzle. Increasing the temp is just going to warp the part more, so I don't want to do that. Any suby jblorch - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I have a MendelMax 1.5 with Pronterface and Slicr software. When I do a print, it sends the machine to the wrong 'home' spot before printing. How do I set the home location to right above the print bed? Is that command part of Pronterface or my Gcode?by jblorch - General Mendel Topics
I don't think the nozzle is clogged because the PLA is slowing coming out. But it is not a constant flow and it looks discolored yellow so maybe it is slightly clogged and overheating? The extrusion rate is sporadic so maybe I should clean the nozzle anyways. If so, any suggestions on how to tackle that? What would happen if I switched back to ABS? I'm still working on my first print and hearby jblorch - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Thanks for the help, I found out there was a bad connection at the resistor and fixed it. I am now test extruding plastic and have a problem. I started printing ABS and it was coming out relatively slow- even at 280C. I switched to PLA to run at a lower temperature. I extruded the rest of the ABS out of the reservoir and now the PLA is not extruding. I then turned the heat to 200C and the noby jblorch - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I have a MendelMax 1.5 ordered from Blomker Industries and am having issues with the extruder not heating up. The heater for my print bed and the motors all work fine. I have checked the connections to the heating resistor in the nozzle and they are all fine, thermistors are also working and reading on the computer. One question I have is the wiring diagram shown in the picture that is attacheby jblorch - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I bought a Mendel 1.5 kit from Blomker Industries and some of the bearings are damaged or not sliding properly. I'm about to buy a new set of linear and ball bearings, but there are so many vendors out there for the 608z and LM8UU bearings. Are bearings from high rep names like McMaster and WM Berg worth buying? They don't have exact size replacements, I could make changed but not sure if it'sby jblorch - General Mendel Topics
