It may be the security settings on the j3d file, depending on where you got it from. Again quoting from the same thread as above: "The 0.8 version has the rights as -rw-r--r-- but the 0.9 version is -rwxrwx--- As this file is copied into place via a sudo command this means its assigned user and group as root so the normal user has no rights to it, hence the error, Simple fix for that is to run tby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
I would think it is an issue with j3d. I had a similar problem, see The core part being "just tried to download the file referenced in the wiki instructions by right clicking on the link and it downloaded a file of the correct name. But, it was 6.7KB and when I went to look at it with a text editor I found it was a html file. So, I went back and actually clicked on the link and found that it gby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
It looks like some issues I had when Eclipse is compiling using the wrong version of Java. Two places to put the correct java classpath: in the eclipse workspace and in the reprap project itself. So: 1. Click on the Window menu and choose Preferences. Under Java-> Installed JREs, add or edit java-6-sun as appropriate. To make things simple, delete any other JREs. 2. Click on Project menuby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
I did a quick search for the bouncycastle error and came across this: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It seems that the default extensions directory has been moved to /usr/share/java/ext (as opposed to java-ext). You could try the following: $ sudo ln -s /usr/share/java-ext/bouncycastle-jdk1.4/bcprov.jar \ /usr/share/java/by reece.arnott - RepRap Host
One way is to do an advanced search and put in a price range from $0-$999. This should get everything for now. It looks like you've found a flaw in the store software in that an item can be in no categories and therefore not easily accessible. I would suggest the addition of a misc. category to be the catchall/default so that each item for sale is in at least one of the categories.by reece.arnott - General
For a look at what the design process on the atomic scale might look like have a look at Nanorex's NanoEngineer 1 (due out out beta and open-sourced by the end of the week). There is a small review of it here: I just found this blogpost and was looking for a way to insert it into a reprap related thread :-)by reece.arnott - General
There are a number of levels I can see this evolving... I see it initially as a way of getting people involved who would not otherwise by simple serendipity web surfing. Such as those who are willing to design innovations or custom things for themselves but who don't have access to the facilities to print them. In the short term it would more be for those who are not as interested as the curreby reece.arnott - General
I've been thinking (which is my way of avoiding doing) and thought I'd share my thoughts... It looks like in the next few weeks/months we'll have maybe 4 people able to print/supply reprap parts (Zach, Ian, Vik, and nophead) so it looks like now would be a good time to get together a reprap print ordering store with the option to choose who prints out the parts for you. I know Zach was looking aby reece.arnott - General
It looks like the same Computerworld article that got picked up by Slashdot also got picked up by KurzweilAI.net: Probably a smaller readership and more of the laid back types waiting for the 'rapture of the geeks' in the Singularity (I count myself as in that category for 90% of the stuff I read about there) but more exposure is good. Maybe we can get a new supplier out of it: "Molds are quite expensive, especially those made in developed countries. Sure. Theres been quite a bit of development since the first CD so I'll have to add in quite a bit of updated stuff anyway. The hardest part last time was actually getting everything down to fit on a CD. It will be even more interesting this time round :-)by reece.arnott - General
Thanks for that. I've been meaning to do an updated version for a while but I've procrastinated long enough that its probably worth waiting until the new Ubuntu Hardy Heron is released and use that as a base to make a new one. I'll PM you once I've created and seeded the new version.by reece.arnott - General
At this point it may be better to have the Dunedin, New Zealand forum be more general and rename it to the New Zealand list. I was hoping I could pull more people from Dunedin into Reprap but its taking longer than I thought to get my reprap running so I can give them a reprap and get some real momentum going. Oh, well. It will happen.by reece.arnott - New Zealand RepRap User Group
Thanks for the thanks :-) Yeah, maybe a NZ group would be better. I was hoping to be quite a bit further ahead than I am by now and have another couple of people in Dunedin working on Repraps. Oh well, nothing good is easy. BTW, heres a NZ company doing what could be a way to make the best use of a limited amount of repraps in the next few years: and their homepage:by reece.arnott - New Zealand RepRap User Group
I (in NZ) got my HDPE as 3mm filament from the Carr Group which is a NZ/Australia group of companies (www.carrgroup.co.nz). The cost itself was quite low and it came already as filament. BTW, people might want to be looking for 'weld rod' which may give a few more suppliers. They have a number of different 3mm filaments on offer. I came across this article today which contains a fairly well documented way to make aerogel. Basically its one of the lightest known building compounds known to man as its 99% empty space (hence why its used in space). I just thought it was very cool :-) Maybe someone here will pick up the challenge to make a reprap capable of being made of, and making, this.by reece.arnott - General
Someone has already mentioned Ray Kurzweil's books but I'll bring up now as the conversation is basically following his logic. Moore's Law is technically speaking about the density of transistors on a chip but this has been abstracted to be applied to the power/speed/price of a computer. Ray Kurzweil has a lot of graphs (and quite a bit of handwaving in some cases) but his basic idea is the priby reece.arnott - General
OK, I've been looking over some of the sequence of things and heres what I've come up with... 1. slice STL into 2D images based on layer height. (ideally PNG) This actually breaks down into 2 stages if we follow the Mad Scientist approach: a. stl -> povray .inc file b. povray .inc file -> PNG files a. should be extremely simple, just compile and reuse Python script, as is, from exceptby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
I think this is an interesting idea and I'll have a look and see what I can over the next few days (the first part at least, and see where we go from there). My work life has been pretty hectic but is starting to ease off now so I'll have a bit of breathing room. Hopefully it is just 90% other peoples stuff and my 10% will be just putting it together in a new way. If not, I'll probably give upby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
Thats my backup plan :-) The superglue also came unstuck in the juddering process and I'd just reglued it all when I ran into issues so I'd rather have a new part if someone has one spare. I'll superglue the old one back together anyway though.by reece.arnott - Wanted
Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! I just snapped my Z drive pulley in half while trying to adjust my Z axis belting! Does anyone happen to have a spare? Vik, could you print me one off and send it to me? Ooops, sorry, I've been a bit busy to check the forums the last couple of days. I could have told you about the brltty issue. I had the same problem with the braille package. Over the last couple of weeks I've been putting together my Cartesian Bot using parts supplied from the BitsFromBytes store and the wiki. I've come across a few minor differences so I thought I'd share them: First, the generic corner blocks I received have fewer holes in them. They divide into two lots: the ones for the upper corners have holes for rods to go through on adjacent corners and theby reece.arnott - Mechanics
Yes. There are some differences between what he sent me and the standard parts though. I'll go through and highlight the differences in the next few days.by reece.arnott - Mechanics
A couple of weeks ago I started building the Cartesian bot. Now I've basically got it as finished as its going to be until my belting arrives. I started by spreading everything out all over the lounge. I decided to have one machine booted to the Reprap LiveCD so I could go into AoI to have a look at any of the pieces I couldn't figure out from the description. The errors you're getting seem to imply that its choking on your specific hardware (also implied by it working on another machine of course). Dunedin, New Zealand. What I'll probably do, seeing as I have the threaded rods and am waiting for the no-threaded, is put everything together out of threaded rods and see what is obviously not going to work and swap it out when my order comes in. I can get my threaded rods for a range of prices at the local hardware suppliers but it looks as if I have to order out-of-town for the plain 8mm rodby reece.arnott - Mechanics
Dman. It looks as if I mixed up the threaded and non-threaded rods. And I find this out, after I've cut them! Oh, well, I guess I'll be buying a bit more rod then. I'll do a bit of mixing and matching and see if I can use what I've got anyway. Once I've put it all together I'll post back an updated list. If nothing else it will stop others making the same mistake I just did :-)by reece.arnott - Mechanics
I've just been cutting up my 1m lengths of threaded rod and have a couple of questions and observations to make: I've been trying to make the least number of cuts possible and use the least rods possible and have found the following... If you buy 1m lengths of threaded rod as I have you need 9 of them. You get a little under 950mm of offcuts and one of these is long enough to use so that next tby reece.arnott - Mechanics
