The vertical members of the frame are cylinders and will be seam welded along the vertical edge as well as around the perimeter so that should act like triangulation. The frame, other than the couple of wire runs will be filled with sand and / or coated internally where I cant put sand. I also have designed the Y and Z axis' to be a suspension mount to minimize the amount of vibration (LF, thereby Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
The adjusters are the dark green bits at the corners. You are seeing the upper frame members which hold the Y axis (long). The bed is the Z axis. Upper left drawing is the base from above, showing electrical and psu boxes. There is also going to be an elevated platform for the extruder motors. This is still in design, as it is a critical element to limiting resistance to the hotend carriage fromby Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
A couple more pics; the process of drilling the frame members is underway. Here you can see the parts for the upper frame laid out with the drag rail setting inside and some of the bottom bits outside, as well as a close up of a wire drop. This won't be grommeted, instead, it has been smoothed and polished all the way around to prevent chafing. Also over the last few days I have been getting closby Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
Plastic in the event of friction is a big cause of static electricity. That is why dust collectors need to be grounded if they use plastic lines. Try using a piece of brass as a wiper and connecting it to ground, preferably at the outlet.by Maxx Mayhem - General

You need (at least on ramps) 2 connections to your power supply. I 'm not sure how sanguino does it but if you have 2 12v inputs you have to connect to both of them or your printer will never work, because the 5 amp drives the circuits but not everything. So you have the lights on but the fire is out. Before you rewire (rebuy) all your electronics, make a connection (same power supply) to the addby Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
Slow going the last couple of days, which is what always happens when you need tooling late on a Friday afternoon. I did however manage to start some preliminary welding on the frame. What you are looking at is the upper ends with the reinforcements for the Y adjusters welded in, as well as the pieces for the Y vertical adjustment screws. There would be no end of aggravation trying to level the Yby Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
A ferrite is a ferrite. You are dealing only with size and shape for your application. Measure the one you have and find the one that matches and you should be ok. Ferrites however don't have power passing through them, so it sounds like the burnt component is adjacent to the ferrite?by Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
For electronics, you might look at 3d gadgets on ebay. I got their complete kit which fo around $200 with shipping gives you what appears to be a very complete setup including a mega, ramps 1.4, pololus (clones) lcd, and 2 options for sd card, as well as your pulleys, thermistors, 2 sets of end stops and heat bed. You also get most of the wiring you are going to need. I bought this to build my fiby Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
I have the Harbor Freight 12x36 lathe and the mill drill. When I bought them they were about half of what they cost now. I always wondered how it was that jet charged twice as much for the exact same machines. Used to their capabilities, they are good machines, accurate and forgiving of a silly mistake or two here or there. For me, things like drills and end mills are basically disposable items,by Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers

Short of the fact that is seems that PTFE is a one way plastic, that is to say that once it is formed it cannot be effectively recycled in any way, just how would one plan to get it to stick to the build bed???by Maxx Mayhem - General
OK so here are a few more shots; I have started drilling for my adjusters, the tube is no problem with a fly cutter but the 1/4 plate just eats boring bars so I have an endmill on order for this week. The Adjusters are finally done, all manual so it took almost a week, and pictured with them are the tops for my PSU / electronic boxes. Almost all the vitimans are here (rods are in the shop).(technby Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
So then that just replaces your pololu and then you can solder on headers and run your cables to the 6064s?by Maxx Mayhem - RAMPS Electronics
You are probably not going to mix colors in the way that your document printer does, using filiment. I would like to get to 7 colors (was figuring because add 5 to 2, not thinking of the thermistor inputs) It may be necessary to build a custom ramps to do this. The commercial powder printers work by mixing ink into the binder, but you cannot effectivly mix filiment on demand.(please prove me wronby Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
One nice thing about the steel frame is that materials come out about dead even with the cost of a set of extrusions and printed parts and bolts for a Mendelmax. So with vitimans, I am still around 1200 bucks two colors with a 2.666 FT cubed build envelope. I hope to get to some welding this weekend, though I am awaiting an end mill to finish up some boring. My machine will have the extruder motors supported above the center of the print area just high enough to limit the angle of bend of the tubes while not extending their length unnecessarily. I am running 1.75, direct drive.by Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers
Each color is going to cost you around $175 all in with a hotend, motor, gear, mounting, tubing controller and a roll of filament. If you are doing more than 2 colors you are going to need a Bowden tube setup. PLA is easier with direct drive, but opens up a whole set of considerations with Bowden. Perhaps you should start by building what appeals to you in design, has some stiffness (which you wiby Maxx Mayhem - Reprappers

What is your operating system, and what version of Python do you have installed? Win 7 has far less issues than XP, conversly, the newer python - 3.x is unsupported, you need 2.x.by Maxx Mayhem - Controllers
The 6064 costs more but has motor power on protection not present in the 6560.by Maxx Mayhem - Controllers
Yeah, that's the one. They come in two flavors, though the small one on the right is the newer version. You want the newest one because 1. the old chip has a problem which can cause electrical damage of some sort when the motor first starts up, and 2. these boards have a capacitor which expands the pulse timing so you don't miss steps, or something like that.by Maxx Mayhem - RAMPS Electronics
I found this kit here: . I have ordered it, though it is back ordered to the supplier whom I believe is in England. Could be faster for you to get it direct? The page has no webstore accoutriments, but I ordered by paypal. They do host a large tech forum. As such I will keep you posted as to when it shows up. It is diy only, they do not sell it assembled.by Maxx Mayhem - RAMPS Electronics
Now I know you can do this on a Melzi, but is it possible to add a second ramps (1.4) to add extruders?by Maxx Mayhem - RAMPS Electronics
I am building my machine with a Z bed. It's a large machine, and there's no other way to do it. Mine will have a welded 1 piece steel frame with adjustable Y & Z rods, and multiple extruders with bowden tubes. I agree the design of the printer is all a matter of what works at a given size. As you get past a cubic foot build size, you have to begin considering the weight of the print as well aby Maxx Mayhem - Mechanics
The z-corp 650 is a powder printer. The ink is dispersed along with the binder during printing. This can't be done with filiment currently as there is no practical way to mix the filiments for dithering in real time. There are people doing multi color fpr patterning and striping, but effective mixing of photo realistic color is at the moment only practical in the commercial end.by Maxx Mayhem - General New Machines Topics

If you have a fast running printer which is fairly light weight, vibration is eventually going to start looostening things up. You might try the mildest loctite on the terminal screws to prevent this.by Maxx Mayhem - RAMPS Electronics
