If you use a thicker piece of acrylic and sand it lightly between prints you won't be having much trouble. I use 1/4 inch acrylic and have zip trouble. I'm upping that to 3/8 inch so that the HDPE that I use to print polypropylene on and the polypropylene I print HDPE on are all the same thickness. :-)by Forrest Higgs - General
It's worth remembering that Reprap can't be considered in isolation. Everybody freaks out about lead but I'll bet most of them wouldn't bat an eye about using PVC piping in their house, for example. Well children, the plasticising agent used in PVC piping is none other than lead acetate. A surprising amount is used in making PVC piping. I've watched PVC piping being extruded and they keep a 5by Forrest Higgs - General

@goinreverse Laser cutting is rather expensive, granted, and if you don't keep your eye on the ball it can certainly get away from you. Having Mendel parts printed out at a commercial prototyping shop costs many times what laser cutting does, however. It also costs a damned sight less than buying a Makerbot or a Rapman and does not have the craziness of having to cobble together an entirely difby Forrest Higgs - General

I personally think that the way forward is to reduce the Mendel STLs to an equivalent DXF file of laser-cut parts. Hand out the DXF and let people get the parts cut at their local laser cutter shop. That gets them their Mendel built right off the bat. Once they have it built they're going to need to start printing replacement parts. This is exactly what is happening with the Rapman 3 seriesby Forrest Higgs - General
Looking at the situation, I am thinking that a laser cut Mendel may be the way to go. I know that I am using a laser cut Rapman, a Darwin clone, and the acrylic parts of that machine are slowly getting replaced with stronger and simpler parts that I print out of ABS.by Forrest Higgs - Administration, Announcements, Policy

I guess I'm thinking about it slightly differently. I don't know of anybody who has used the McWire route to repstrap to either a reprap machine or a stable McWire that is useful. From what I've seen our user community is wasting a huge amount of energy going down the McWire {in my opinion, anyway} blind alley. I think we're losing a lot of people by even mentioning McWire as an option. Suppoby Forrest Higgs - Administration, Announcements, Policy

I said I regularly do 8 hour prints with my Rapman. I work out of my home. I'd never leave it for 8 hours unattended. It's a very good, solid machine. Occasionally, however, it goes south. A few weeks ago, for example, I went next door to help my sister set up a new printer. When I came back 45 minutes later I discovered that my Rapman had partially reset leaving the xy positioning still anby Forrest Higgs - General
I regularly do 8 hour prints on my Rapman with no problems. That presumes that the relative humidity is above 50%, mind.by Forrest Higgs - General
