Looking at your drawings I think that a RepOlaRap will be byfar the most interesting RepStrap to watch while its printing. I can imagine the hypnotizing effect it will have on those watching it working. It will look like a peice of animated modern art that has a true function in life.by BodgeIt - General New Machines Topics
Nice re-use case love this kind of re-cycling if you can design it so that you can still sit down while it prints that realy would be good.!by BodgeIt - Mechanics
Oh I was going with the standard Mendel block design and a NEMA 17 with 0.45NM Torque. Do you mean the only way top go with a NEMA 14 not a NEMA 17 ? I have a few Mechano gears to play with no worm gear thou..by BodgeIt - Controllers
Great Victor Im now even more interested ! If I can get away with a smaller stepper on Big Bertha for the Z axis and use the two smaller 2.2NM steppers shown here for X and Y I will have a 3.5Nm stepper as a spare to try out on a lathe.. sort of in beteen the sizes you are using.by BodgeIt - Mechanics
I have an Arduino Mega ready to play with on one of my Repstraps I will get Mendel working first thou. From the various posts on the forum here I don't think that 2.3kg/cm is strong enough for the extruder I think it needs to be more like 4.6kgm/CM well I will be trying a 4.6 Kg/cm with the hope that it has enough torque. 2.3kg/cm = 0.22555295 newton meter 4.6kg/cm = 0.4511059 newton meterby BodgeIt - Controllers
What a neat Idea Micro Mendel!! I have used 8mm studding & Bar on Mendel, I think considering the size reduction using 6mm studding & bar would be just fine. Its also easier to cut and cheaper to buy. I use 8mm Aluminium tube from B&Q cut in 7mm lengths to insert into the 8mm bearings with the help of a small rubber hammer. There are proper 8mm to 6mm bearing inserts they are usedby BodgeIt - General Mendel Topics
Thank you have been playing with it on XP this morning..by BodgeIt - RepRap Host
The idea of using stepper motors occurred to me before ~ for making things like a Ball Chain drive wheel / gear. However I decided that the Stepper would be hard to maintain and drive enough power into to cut materials like steel bar without stalling. So I went and bought a Chinese low cost Lathe. So I am very interested in this project.by BodgeIt - Mechanics
It is nice to think that the RepRap project has been perceived by people within that community as something any one can do. Indicating that a the vision of a RepRap in every home is becoming a desire/dream of non-RepRap geeks / Joe Public. Thus the idea/concept of home 3D printing is now expanding with RepRap leading the way which is quite an achievement.by BodgeIt - Administration, Announcements, Policy
I agree with Triffid_Hunter but maybe a another argument would be:- Take a look a the processor required in the average ink jet printer it is very much on a par with the processor we are currently using. Now look at the processors in Laser printers or the processors used in graphics cards. Gone are the days of the simple dumb peripheral device tasks need to be delegated down to the firmware. Great news Robert.. They are called "Viereck-Möbelverbinder" they are Brown. (braun). Yes I will defiantly be making drawings like I did for Darwin version.. this time I will make them only once the Darwin drawings I kept modifying as I made improvements or solved unforeseen physical problems. We also have several different types of those 45 degree versions as well in the UK. From your succeby BodgeIt - Reprappers
I am using normal steel bar that hasnt so far rusted. I also I know I dont have rusty fingers. Some people do have rusty fingers any thing they touch rusts.by BodgeIt - Mechanics
Hey thank you for that great Tip Nophead its installed It will not check as I type here but it has given a spell check button which is great. rhmorrison Have you verified that "Options -> General -> Browsing Group -> Check my spelling as I type" is checked at work? Yes I did and mine was alredy checked. I think that this version of Fire Fox 3.5.6 this function has died. As it used toby BodgeIt - Powder Printing and Selective Laser Sintering
Hi playing with yot nice little app.. I found that the file attached did not look how I expected it to be. It could be incompatible G-code or a bug.. Seems to work thoby BodgeIt - RepRap Host
Thank you, Midge she is an ex software architect and technical writer realy gives me a hard time over my spelling and grama mistakes.. I like to think you cant be good at every thing... hmm now Im not sure what Im good at,.. aside from tinkering and bodgeing things together.. oh for a spell checker in the forum poster window..by BodgeIt - Powder Printing and Selective Laser Sintering
Great minds think alike Thank you for confirming the dimensions.by BodgeIt - Darwin
I am trying to make the Squashed Frog part for Mendel. Other wise know as the y-chassis. Im not confident of the way I have retreved the external dimensions of this DXF file. Its external dimensions seem to be 200mm X 148mm could some one confirm this please. I have made one but it looks a little too small. Like the Frog needs to be longer than 200mm when offerd up to Mendelby BodgeIt - Darwin
Ok.. If you want to use imperial nuts and bolts the nearest imperial size to 5mm is 1/4" The self tapping screws you could just drill the holes out with a 1/8" drill. I'm sure the original instructable was from USA... and fully imperial measurements. Enjoy... http://www.instructables.com/id/Easy-to-Build-Desk-Top-3-Axis-CNC-Milling-Machine/by BodgeIt - General
AK47 is bang on with his comments we do not have the kind of enviroment or distance to warant anything other that a two wire solution. Now if we were talking about cables above 1Km situated in a car factory or power station where there is sparking igniters or factory spot welding, Arc welding, or with heavy duty motors, we would start to become concerend about signal to noise levels. Some people call this process Brain storming.. Usual seen in any think tank type organization that are dancing on the edge of what is possible with technology or what is possible within a certain time frame or monetary constraint. This thread is very much like that brain storming session where there will be e Doers and thinkers and talkers and a few others the tea lady or cleaner. For those who are not in the UK or Familiar with these wonderfull little beasties. From Blogger Pictures Called "Nylon Corner Block" ( Fixing Block, Fixit Blocks, Assembly Joint) The DIY Doctor link above shows the normal use now trying to find them on the internet is not as easy as they go by so many diffrent names so here are some links. They work out at cost of around 6p each or I guessby BodgeIt - Reprappers
Yes The McWire is much slower than using a belt drive system. 6mm threaded bar I made a McWire / still have a McWire I have used it with a Dremel as a CNC the Dremel is now mounted in the Bertha CNC which is almost twice as much movement per revolution using a simple/low cost 10mm CNC Trapezial threded bar that gives 2mm movement per revolution per 200 steps. Bertha runs its steppers at 32Voltsby BodgeIt - Reprappers
Excelent sugestion.. this should be built in to every print there is a note in this forum and on the main blog regarding the diffrent numbers to go in the symbol. * 1 - Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) * 2 - High-density polyethylene (HDPE) * 3 - Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) * 4 - Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) * 5 - Polypropylene (PP) * 6 - Polystyrene (PS) * 7 - Otherby BodgeIt - Reprappers
great Thank you.. The zip file I downloaded did not contain any of the carridge parts. I needed to know how long it was "its length of 97mm." Have you made this part yet? I just use an application called print 3D to figure out basic dimensions from an stl file nothing else seems to open them in a way I can view in the correct scale..by BodgeIt - Reprappers
Please could some one attach a link please Google did not find the missing file eitherby BodgeIt - Reprappers

~ MDF looks better cuts with a clean edge and drills with sharp edges no splinters. I have tried using both MDF wins every time. Bertha is made from Plywood. From Darwins made from hard wood plastic bread boards MDF and Ply. Mendel MDF.by BodgeIt - Mechanics
John I had the Idea that it was simpler to do exactly that initialy with my mendel build making the equilateral triangle out of off the shelf 500mm long studding. The only problem this threw up for me was the drive belts required need to be a fair bit longer as I am not spending any money building Mendel just using what I have got left over from other builds I had to cut the threaded rod to sizby BodgeIt - General Mendel Topics
Oh boy great pictures of your Kitchen I imediatly showed Midge as the Bertha CNC is still resident in the Kitchen untill I finish building the Solar Powerd sheds. All the timber for the sheds arrives tomorow.by BodgeIt - General Mendel Topics
In the new year I will start the process of creating some form of generic powder printer as I have 3 identical Lexmark printer chassis to play with and plenty of spare time. I have all of the empty print cartridges so there will be plenty of scope to try some of these print material ideas out. I'm not sure how I will make a roller to flatten the powder layer to be printed maybe taking 22mm coppeby BodgeIt - Powder Printing and Selective Laser Sintering
