BDolge: Also are you planning to breakout the software and electronics forums? Think so. I'll probably do it thusly: *Software: **RepRap driver software. **3D Design tools, Art of Illusion, Blender, CAD tools, etc. (note: this probably belongs over in the object libraries folder.) **Software off-topic. Perl vs. Python, Eclipse sucks goats, why does anyone still use vi when emacs is clearly suby SebastienBailard - General
I've made some changes, what do you guys think? BDolge, if people starting fussing, and wanting messages filed in their new homes I'll move them promptly. Otherwise, in a few weeks. No promises, sorry.by SebastienBailard - General
Zach, if you're into body modification, it would be dead easy to rig up a soldering iron or drag knife. :p I'll do some forum re-arranging tomorrow, btw.by SebastienBailard - General
Demented, I'd avoid building an arm until after building a more traditional mill or gantry-type machine. Arms have less precison because they're missing all that cross-bracing. A typical big industrial robot has a precision of maybe 0.050". If you compare that to a homebrewed cnc machine, which should get a precision of ~0.010" easily. I'm not saying that building a robot arm isn't a fascinatby SebastienBailard - Reprappers
Brian, I think you're going to have to create a new account. You're not on the list of users (accessible via the administrators' control panel) so there does not seem to be anything I can do using those tools. Vik, Your friends are very welcome to post their work here; we're interesting in seeing what folk are up to, and are also willing to host friendly not-exactly-reprap-but-still-very-interesting projects. For example Forrest Higgs's machine uses some very different approaches, and so on. By 'local/private', do you mean in one of the fora here, or elsewhere?by SebastienBailard - Reprappers
Hmmm. Maybe this will go away once we become desparate to upgrade the forum software. I've been happy with using Sage, the RSS reader extension for firefox, which means I don't look at the new flag much. If it is a problem, let me know, and I'll pester Simon a tiny bit about the forum software.by SebastienBailard - Administration, Announcements, Policy

This fellow uses ordinary wheat flour as epoxy filler. (Do read it, it's a lovely writeup.) "Hint: Instead of commercial epoxy fillers (=expensive) or saw dust (=coarse) I use wheat flour. You know, the stuff for bread dough. It is: * Close to wood as a material. * Much finer than wood dust from sawing or sanding, so creates smoother surfaces. * Almost wood colour (light). * Avaby SebastienBailard - Polymer Working Group

Now that we've discussed this matter at length, back to the fun stuff. Anyone ever tinker with electroactive polymers? I'm surprised this didn't come up in the artificial muscles thread: I imagine in some ways these will surplant some of the small and large electric motors out there.
