Not had much time to play yet, but it looks good. I only have one feature request, early reversal. It works really well in SF and would make the seams go away. Oh and is anyone running Slic3r with a second extruder for support? If so, how is it going?by TheRuttmeister - Slic3r
I wonder if I'm having a similar issue. When slicing a reasonable size STL (4.6M at an unreasonable resolution (0.05mm) I have windows tell me slic3r has crashed. I can slice at that resolution just fine with smaller STL'sby TheRuttmeister - Slic3r

Hmmmm... seems that the issue I'm having is somehow related to nozzle size. Switching to a 0.35 nozzle gets me the infill I was expecting. A second issue I'm having is that with concentric shapes (that ring.stl I linked to is a great example) I find that the perimeter order changes. So a central area has the correct order, and the ring around it has its outer perimeter in the correct order. Butby TheRuttmeister - Slic3r
Firstly, yay! 0.7.1 seems quite a bit faster with the files I have been fighting with. However, using the config file I posted before and slicing the ring.stl here: I get the thin sections completely filled. Is this a bug?by TheRuttmeister - Slic3r
I have found a bug! Slice the attached STL with the attached profile. Slices just fine. Then change the first layer height ratio to 3 and it claims that the model has self intersecting blah blah blah. Seems to be regardless of STL. Makes life hard if you are heading down below 0.1mm.by TheRuttmeister - Slic3r
For more details and pictures see my blog: But I am very happy with the sample! It extrudes faster than the other 2 types of ABS I have used so far. The grey isnt the most attractive colour, but I'm impressed at the opacity of the colour. Other colours would be interesting provided they have very similar thermal performance. I will be ordering some! As minimum order is 10kg, anyone who waby TheRuttmeister - For Sale

Until recently I have been printing with natural colour ABS from Makerbot. I recently swaped to BfB white ABS... It seems to have a higher extrusion temp, it also seems to shrink more. I am running on Hot Kapton and need a higher temp than before to get it to stick. Its hard to be sure if its just not sticking as well or if it really does have a higher shrink factor. Has anyone else been ableby TheRuttmeister - Plastic Extruder Working Group
> My question, is the drive speed maximized in > belt driven systems? I'm printing infill at 32mm/s... makerbots top out at 83mm/s. Unless someone comes up with a much higher performing extruder I can't see belts hitting a limit too soon. Has anyone looked into using screws to drive a lever? Some kind of mechanical advantage might add speed, its not like a screw drive would be short on toby TheRuttmeister - General

1 vote for makerbot.... even if its too late! Mine has now produced 2 and a bit mendels. Yes, its a LOT of work to get it to the point where its not going to drive you mad. But with a heated build platform (which is easy on the makerbot, and already supported in the firmware... don't know if thats true for Rapman) you can cure the warping problem. Hello, I am offering the following. Complete set of Mendel printed parts: £195. This is the complete set of parts. Printed in ABS, on a Makerbot Cupcake. Includes the belt splitter jig and the extruder block. (future versions may be printed in PLA) I have already printed and sold 2 complete sets, some pictures of which can be seen on my blog. Secondly I am also offering a kit of mechanicalby TheRuttmeister - For Sale
Hello everyone! Firstly good news, I am currently printing the 3rd set of parts. I the print time down low enough that I'm expecting this set to be done in about a week. This is the last pre-order that I took. The first has already shipped and the second will be shipping in the next week (along with all the mechanicals). The bad news is that in light of the time involved and cost of materials Iby TheRuttmeister - For Sale
Good but not amazing. All nuts and bolts came to £30 inc delivery plus about £16 for the threaded rod. I could have gotten the threaded rod a little cheaper. Although thats UK, so not sure if thats a helpful comparison..by TheRuttmeister - General Mendel Topics
Mendel could be improved by significantly redesigning it to cut the print time... I'm scribbling ideas, I think theres quite a bit of room for optimisation. And I think laser sintering would push the cost too high for my liking, plus isn't really practical for metals (as you need protective gas to prevent fires!)by TheRuttmeister - General
If you are looking to build figures... you certainly are not going to get close to the quality of the GW plastics. But you could certainly get something usable in dreadnaught or tank size. However it will need considerable finishing to remove the distinctive ridged finish you get with FDM. Plus there are the restrictions you get with overhangs n sutch. If you want to create an STL I'm quite hapby TheRuttmeister - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Well, depending on how you calculate it, Makerbot were paying at about double the rate of my offered £75. Although that's just napkin maths. Like I said, the £75 price is actually a big constaint!by TheRuttmeister - General
Its an interesting idea... but at the small scale there is one thing that will kill you. Cost of shipping. I understand your idea, but as soon as you move beyond a home workshop your overheads increase dramatically. And the price for a complete set of RP parts has to go up dramatically. And add to that the cost of shipping on your 100+ parts. Its simply makes more sense to print all the partsby TheRuttmeister - General
Bits from Bytes Electronics are propriatry... Not part of the RepRap chain! The only real source of Gen3 RepRap electronics is Makerbot.com however they tend to concentrate on selling complete printers, so rarely ever have the electonics in stock. And check out the For Sale section to see who is offering Mendel RP parts!by TheRuttmeister - General
Hi everyone! Sorry to anyone I haven't emailed back, I will try and get to you as soon as I can, even if its just to let you know that I got your email! I am keeping an eye on this thread, so please to keep posting! As soon as things with work have calmed down I will be cracking on as much as I can, and I'll put up pics as soon as I have them. Hello everyone. As I have said to people who have been in contact with me off forum, this idea of mine is totaly dependant on the comunitys trust in me. So to keep everything open: Today I have found out that work will be taking me away for the next 2 months. This is not the end of the world! However it has forced a change to my timescale. Because of this I have stopped taking pre-orders. Myby TheRuttmeister - For Sale
