AHHH MAN! My highschool bought one of those in my second year there, it's what I learned printing on. Useless fact but I love those machines, they warp ABS rarely and I only had to clear one jam, ever. Good luck.by Cain - Reprappers
Depends on how the printer is set up. I've only used one setup, but from what I read (Could somebody confirm this): 3mm is good for bowden extruders (I doubt you would want one on a makerfarm i3v), bad for direct drive (hobbed bolt likes to strip it) and good for geared extruders. 1.75 is good for direct drive and geared, but bad for bowden. Depending on where you order from, 1.75 can be moreby Cain - Reprappers
I'd say makerfarm, if you're in the U.S. (Faster shipping times). I've just spent a few months looking for a second printer in kit form, they seem to strike the best balance between price, quality and customer support.by Cain - Reprappers
I've read much of the same experience across several different websites. Makes me think about trying to sell some kits... I feel like although the saturation of the market is high, so is the demand for quality. As long as the parts were quality I think you would gain a good reputation fairly quickly.by Cain - General
QuoteMindRealm I'm surprised that nobody here has offered to print you some... If you have an exact model in mind (many on Thingiverse) let me know and we may be able to work something out I just took a look and I do have all the printed parts, thanks though. It seems I just need to find some quality smooth rods and threaded rods. reprappro looks like they only sell complete kits. I'm trying tby Cain - General Mendel Topics
A few years ago I got most of the parts to build a mendel, but had electronics trouble and also found my smooth rods were bent, along with the z axis leadscrews not fitting properly. I only need a few parts to get it going, but I can't find anywhere selling parts for the mendel. Only the prusa, or huxley, or mendel varients. Some new (Quality) threaded rod, smooth rod and maybe some Z axis partsby Cain - General Mendel Topics
Have the kinks been worked out with this kit yet? Considering buying it for my first printer. I'm not above modification or tinkering, but I'd like to know the kit comes with everything needed. It seems there's a problem with the teeth count on the gears, did they reduce it to 20 or is this still an issue? Does the firmware it comes with still need tinkering?by Cain - Delta Machines
Since I can't order from mendel-parts, I'm probably going to find a place that sells jheads. Furthermore....Spokane Washington!? I've yet to find a supplier in the US, let alone a drive away. I'm over in Anacortes. What luck...by Cain - General Mendel Topics
Exactly why I'm not understanding all the hate, Traumflug. He's extremely understaffed, and think of how many orders he has received. Could he be doing better? Probably. But for how few people are working with him, I'd say he'd doing pretty good. Everything I've ordered from him in the past, despite being late, was (in my opinion) pretty high quality. I'd order from him again, once he catches upby Cain - General
All the ones I seem to find are in a different language, out of stock, suspicious-looking or are no longer running. I'm looking for hot-end parts, extruder parts, and electronics. Any suppler you have had experience with would be helpful. The only one I've used was mendel-parts, but they seem to be out of the game for a while.by Cain - General Mendel Topics
I stumbled here looking for reviews of their service. Their products look good, but I'm suspicious of their low prices ($110 for gen6 electronics?) and how the interface of the website seems copy'd and pasted from mendel-parts (Names of menus, etc.)by Cain - General
I tried checking them out, but the mendel max website keeps 404'ing me. Anyone know of a place that sells a /quality/ complete extruder (hotend, heater, plastic bits/hobbed bolt) ?by Cain - General
Thank you very much. Trying to pick up where I left off several months ago, but I have no idea where I left off. For some reason I had everything put together with only the ATX 20 pin connector wired up, so I need to add the 4pin molex and get a new atmega (screwed up the fuses, won't recognise device signature now )by Cain - Next Wave Electronics Working Group
I'm finally getting around to finishing a gen7 version 1.2 board, and I just connected the power to check the voltages (Using only 4 pin molex connecter, jumper is correctly set). When I turned my power supply on, every led on the board lit up. I have the 3 MOSFETS soldered in, but the ATmega is not in place. I'm wondering if those 3 LEDs next to the MOSFETS should be on. The other two are as thby Cain - Next Wave Electronics Working Group
Any idea when he will start accepting orders again? Anybody? I've only ordered once from him, and my only mistake was not getting absolutly everything I needed. I see he's hiring a helper. I'd seriously consider it if I had a place to stay and food (I live in the US). Any updates?by Cain - General
Wade: Thanks for the offer, but I actually already have one Nix: Thanks, I'll try that when I go back to work on it. Very nicely done, I'm going to try to model my Mendel after Unit one. Beautiful machine.by Cain - General Mendel Topics
Hello all, I'm trying to get my first mendel working and I'm running into some problems attaching the herring bone gear extruder to open x axis. I know it's possible as it has been done on Etherdais Unit one/Unit Zero (http://reprap.org/wiki/Etherdais_Unit_One), but as far as I can tell the only way to mount this extruder is sideways, yet his pictures do not show that. Also, I don't see the baseby Cain - General Mendel Topics
Alright, thank you. I can't even get my programmer to work under windows now, even with the atmel drivers it just won't connect under avr studio. I'm going to try for a little while longer, but if it still doesn't work I'm thinking I'll try to return it, and get the one from pololu that you have (So I know it works, at least...). If i can't get it to work, I'm definitely buying one from you. Thiby Cain - Controllers
I know that, perhaps I phrased my question wrong. I'm using a USB programmer. Therefore, would I still use "/dev/ttyACM0" or would I type "USB"? Arg.... This is starting to drive me insane...if I can't get this to work, for whatever reason, how much would you sell an atmega644 with the bootloader/fuses set, ready to have the firmware uploaded? Starting to lose hope in fixing this...by Cain - Controllers
That was not a direct copy and paste, I typed it with the laptop sitting next to me. I've only ever tried using /dev/ttyACM0, usb, and usb:32 (32 being the last 2 digits of the programmer's serial number). The -B value doesn't change anything, I've tried 5, 10, 100 and 1000. It all comes up with the same error. I'm thinking of ordering another ATmega644p just to be sure I didn't accidentally kiby Cain - Controllers
I've been trying under ubuntu 10.0. Is there a package I'm missing or something?by Cain - Controllers
I'm having a lot of problems getting my AVRISP MKII to function. I'm trying to set the fuses/upload the bootloader to my atmega644P for the generation 7 electronics. I've connected the programmer, powered up the board, and both lights on the programmer are green. I typed in ./avrdude -C ./avrdude.conf -c ? in the arduino hardware/tools directory to find my programmer, but there are two entrieby Cain - Controllers
I think it works... I copied the contents of the file you provided and replaced the contents of config.h.dist using a text editor (This is correct, yes?). I got an error compiling stating that the config.h file could not be found, so I put the file you provided into the teacup_firmware directory, and it appeared to compile correctly....going to upload shortly... Edit: Ah, I'm stupid (And sleepby Cain - Controllers
I have my gen7 board completely built and working so far, and I believe I just burned the bootloader to it. I'm having trouble with the firmware now, however. I tried Teacup, but I'm not sure I understand the instructions. I downloaded the .zip of all the teacup files, extracted them, then downloaded the config.h.FiveD_on_Arduino file, but am not sure what to do. I followed the Teacup instructiby Cain - Controllers
Alright then, I'll just make it on a breadboard, following the optoendstop gen 7 PDF, replacing my photoswitch with the H21LOB. To test it, should I hook it up to a working gen7 board, or is there another way?by Cain - Controllers
I found a bunch of photo switches I'd saved for one reason or another, wondering if they'll work for the standard gen7 opto design without changing anything. The model number is OPB992L55, datasheet here: DATASHEETby Cain - Controllers
I just spent wayyy too much time trying to get an old laser black & white printer working well enough for this, and the only 2 prints that didn't come out with toner or random lines through them I didn't iron enough. Ah well, practice....going to wait to use a different laser though. I'm really starting to get excited...thanks for all the help Traumflug. Edit: I got it. Etched and everythiby Cain - Controllers
Wait, so this means I need to add components to be able to have microstepping? EDIT: I guess I mean to ask, do/what do I need to change from the standard gen7 board, if anything, to have microstepping on the a4988. I'll be etching the board in a few hours now, thanks for all the help. Definitely couldn't have gotten this far without you guys.by Cain - Controllers
Alright, so I'm getting together the materials to etch my own gen7 PCB, along with the components and stepper drivers. I know the gen7 electronics call for the pololu a4983 stepper driver, but the a4988 will work too, correct? the pololu website claims it is a drop in replacement, only difference being overcurrent protection and "an internal 100k pull-down on the MS1 microstep selection pin".
