Limit will be the point at which you start skipping steps. Torque falls off with speed so at some point there will be skipped steps. You'll see it as a small shift from one layer to the other. Print quality will likely degrade smoothly as you speed up. That is if your extruder can keep up. Depending on your layer height you might start stripping the filament before you hit the speed wall.by bryanandaimee - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
SDSL works. Just edit pins.h sanguish section at the very bottom and replace #define SDSS -1 with #define SDSS 29 then you should be able to enable SD support and use it. I've used it with Repetier firmware and host. Sanguish is only tested with SDSL and pin compatible adapters. Many SD adapters are sold for Sanguinololu that are SDRAMPS pinout. These are not pin compatibleby bryanandaimee - Controllers
You won't need an arduino. Those boards are both integrated. They are not arduino shields but have the controller integrated into the board. The two boards are very different though. Smoothie is an arm board while Rambo is a more traditional ATMega board. Plus there are many more all in one boards that fit your brief description of compact. Sanguinololu is smaller than either one of the boards yby bryanandaimee - Controllers
I've got one on order. The SDSL seems to be harder to get a hold of though so I might look at SDRamps too and see if I can get both to work.by bryanandaimee - Controllers
Sanguish 1.0 is out and I have 6 more kits to sell from the first batch of 10. Cost is $50 for the complete kit (Including drivers), or $45 without USB-Serial components for those who already have a USB-Serial cable. Kits are completely unassembled. You get a PCB, Drivers, and a bag of parts. Shipping is $5 to the US and $12 anywhere else. See Sanguish Wiki Home for details and build instructionby bryanandaimee - For Sale
First thing to do is check for shorts. Use a multimeter and check resistance across the power inputs and from any 5V pin to ground. Both measurements should be in the kilo Ohm range or higher. Then before inserting ATMega or Pololu drivers you could check the 5V regulator. Just power up and make sure you are getting 5V where you should. Once the smoke tests are done, you could plug in ATMega anby bryanandaimee - Controllers
And here is the preliminary pin-out for Sanguish 1.0. I'm hoping this will be the stable pinout for a while at least, but I haven't done any SD card testing so SD, and other add on pins might be added or changed as I figure that out. /**************************************************************************************** * Sanguish 1.0 pin assignment * *****************************************by bryanandaimee - Repetier
Also for those who bought cheap chinese LM8UU, the rubber seal can be a major source of binding. I removed them on mine just leaving the clip to hold it together and they slide much better.by bryanandaimee - General
I'm not sure if I can make the space for that. I did add the two pin header next to the 6 pin ICSP header in hopes that it would be compatible with Sanguinololu add on sd card boards. I haven't tested that yet but plan to soon. Once I have a working add on solution then I will look into integrating it if I can figure out where to put it. Perhaps on the back side? I've got two boards built for Sanguish 1.0 that I am currently testing and it is going well. I'll update the wiki soon. The final 1.0 version is essentially unchanged from the 1.0 RC1 linked in the wiki except for a bit of cleanup on the USB connector's solder mask. I'll post final revision files as soon as I can. If anyone is interested I have parts for 6 kits. They will sell for $50 for the fby bryanandaimee - Controllers
I think part of the problem is that there are so few community members with higher level priveliges. Many of the admins are now very busy actually making a living doing RepRap related stuff. That is a really good thing. But it does mean the website gets a bit neglected. So I would argue that rather than a structured approach where one or two have root access and then others are assigned a specifiby bryanandaimee - General
I think it might be time to allow a larger pool of admins. I'd like to see the front page blog being used more. It really needs a post per day at least rather than once a week or so. As for the wiki, everyone reading this subject is already empowered to do something about that. If you find something that needs to be changed then change it.by bryanandaimee - General
I've taken apart a few laser printers and one of the rollers is generally a heat resistant rubber. I just cut a section off and wrap it around the hot end then tape with kapton. It's nice and thick without and no wrapping skill required. I like the idea of Teflon tape. That sounds easy, and if you get a few layers down near the tip it will help avoid extruded plastic sticking where it shouldn't.by bryanandaimee - Reprappers
I could see the value if you were an arbiter of quality for both sides, and did some prep work on STLs. ie. Do some real QA on test prints and give an initial rating of print quality for new printers wishing to sell services. (you can keep user ratings but I don't see that as value you are adding to the transaction.) Do some real QA and repair on submitted files. (are they manifold, will they reby bryanandaimee - General
A flexible mechanics is an interesting idea. I think you have already hit on the main obstacle. Either you have to redo the firmware to account for non linear motion of each axis, or you have to try to adjust for it with complex linkages. The other thought I had was that in order to have precision it seems you would need some stiffness but that would also load your steppers more. I think the firmby bryanandaimee - General
Perhaps you could check the gate voltage/control pin voltage when you hit your set temp. If it's turning off at the ATmega but not at the FET then you have a bad FET. If it's not turning off at the ATmega you might have a burnt out pin. In what way were your connections wrong? Most HBP are not polar so connecting it backwards should have no effect. Was it shorted out completely? Bryanby bryanandaimee - Reprappers
I've had no problems with it at 2 amps. The drivers do have to be ALL the way in to the sockets though. I've had issues with them if they are only most of the way in. These drivers are possibly more prone to die for various reasons than Pololu drivers though so I like the ease of replacement of a socket solution. For instance, wiring a coil between a and b outputs (cross wiring) will kill a driveby bryanandaimee - Controllers
It's a good suggestion and something I've thought about before. I'll have to do some testing and see how much cooler the FET will run at 12V. If it's significant I'll have to try it. I'm excited to see what you come up with.by bryanandaimee - Controllers
I agree it would be nice to drive the FETs at 12V, but with some of the newer FET's it doesn't seem necessary. I'll be using the IRLB 8743 which seems to do pretty well at 5V. It would be better at 12V but I'm not sure if I have space for the extra circuitry without a lot of changes to routing. I'll have to think about it for a future version. The other consideration is that if you do that, theby bryanandaimee - Controllers
So it looks like everything is working. When I check the "keep a copy" box in the message editor I do get a copy in my sent box. I've never had to do that before.by bryanandaimee - General
OK, so that's not it. And I've tried logging out and logging back in and no luck. Also tried a direct PM rather than a reply and I still don't see anything in the sent box from 3 different messages now.by bryanandaimee - General
Yes, although the crystal is about the same price at the supplier I use and the caps are pennies. Also the crystal is tighter tolerance. Not sure if that makes any difference with our type of use. I did go with a ceramic resonator for the MCP2200 for reasons of space. It seems to work fine. A resonator would probably fit much better there under the ATmega too.by bryanandaimee - Controllers
Also, both my inbox and sent box are suspiciously stuck at 123 messages. Is there a limit on stored messages? If so does it affect the ability to send and receive?by bryanandaimee - General
I've noticed that when I reply to a PM in the forum system sometimes the reply doesn't make it to my sent folder. The most recent time I double checked when sending, and it said that the message was successfully sent but still nothing showed up in Sent folder. Does that mean my reply didn't really get sent or is there a bug that keeps replies from showing up in the sent folder at random times?by bryanandaimee - General
Also placing a folded towel or other insulation on top of the bed while heating will speed up the heating time quite a bit. Just remember to remove it before printing. Turning the voltage up a bit will solve the temperature limit problem. P= I^2 *R so going from 11.6 to 12.6 (8% increase) will increase the power by 18% which should substantially increase the top temperature you can reach.by bryanandaimee - General
For most people the kit will be the cheapest option. If you are willing to spend a lot of time scrounging and waiting for the really good deals on multiple sites you might get it cheaper, but it doesn't take too many mistakes to erase the savings you get from self sourcing. Shipping costs from multiple sellers can often erase the savings of buying surplus stuff. On the other hand, if you only havby bryanandaimee - Reprappers
Sounds more like a connection problem. Make sure all your wires are still connected and no open wires. Easy check for open wires would be to just test resistance across the hot end connector with the power off. Should get a few ohms across the hot end. If you get very high or out of range then a wire is broken or connector is loose, or possibly bad soldering/broken trace/popped solder pad.by bryanandaimee - Reprappers
Welcome to the club. I think we all went through the stages you are talking about. From awestruck to disillusioned to practical. But whether the percentage is 30% or 50% doesn't really matter. The fact that the printer enables you to print the difficult parts for another printer and then use off the shelf parts for the rest, really is a game changer. And for many of us the fact that it builds parby bryanandaimee - Reprappers
